Leopardsun paced, unable to shake her restlessness. She hadn't been able to really relax since- well, a long time, she was pretty sure. She'd gotten close at the Gathering, and then everything had gone terribly, and she'd dashed off with Echomist to avoid watching the fallout.

There was an idea, now that she thought about it: she considered him to be a friend, or something close to it; one of the few cats she regularly sought out for some reason of another that wasn't her sister. She had wanted to be alone, but she supposed she wouldn't mind being alone with a friend. She didn't bother projecting confidence as she took several large strides over toward where he was, instead simply watching him for a moment.

"Would you be up to hunting...?"

There was an awkward air to the question- friends or not, she sometimes struggled to talk to him, in the same way she sometimes struggled to talk to anyone. It felt harder, in some ways, because she was willing the words to come out right each and every time when they never seemed to.

Green eyes turned to the other warrior as she approached the spot where Echomist was sitting. He studied Leopardsun for a moment before standing from his spot and stretching. "Sure we can go hunting." The tom couldn't help the little sense he got that something was wrong with the she-cat but he wasn't exactly sure what it was. It didn't matter too much what it was, he wasn't going to pry.

"Lead the way." He told her. He wasn't going to take charge. He was going to follow her lead, and move at her pace. Maybe doing that would help.

Leopardsun couldn't hide her relief as Echomist accepted her request, though she did her best to move on quickly. She nodded briskly and led the way into the marsh, away from camp. Out here, she could keep her eyes, ears, and nose all focused on prey; it wasn't relaxing, but it was a distraction, and it would have to be enough.

Her eyes caught sight of the prey before her nose caught up to it: a long-tailed lizard, its scales glinting in the night, moving at a leisurely pace. Its slow movement turned to scurrying as she made her approach, however, so she leapt forward and caught it in her claws to slow it down. With a swift kill, she had her first catch.

Echomist was quick to follow after her after he quickly shook out his pelt. She wasn't wasting anytime, and so he wasn't going to either. The tortie tom remained quiet while they walked, he was going to wait until she said something first, not wanting to force any conversation what so ever.

As soon as she broke away, so did he. Echomist made sure to stay quiet as he looked around and scented for some prey. Quickly finding the scent of a frog. The tom was quick to track it down to the edge of a puddle, crouching low before pouncing.

A bit of her sense of self, and her presence, was returning to her as she carried her catch back; nodding to Echomist. "Nice catch!" she told him, brighter than she'd expected to sound. "Thanks for coming out with me, Echomist... I think I really needed this."

Leopardsun caught the scent of a nearby mouse, spinning around to catch sight of it. Mice weren't her favorite, but they were generally easy enough to catch. She wasn't in the mood for showing off, just to provide for her Clanmates. As she'd predicted, it was an easy catch, and she swiftly ended its life.

Echomist nodded at her compliment. "You did well too." He told her, not really sure what to say in response to the next thing she had said. "Glad I could help." Was the best response he had. He wasn't sure if it was the right thing to say. He felt like he should add more when the she-cat turned away to continue the hunt. Suppose he should do the same.

The spotted tom turned away as well, trying to find a piece of prey. When another rabbit stumbled into his vision. Maybe he would have luck like last time and manage to catch one for the clan. Might as well try. As soon as he geared up to catch the rabbit it had already darted away to where the tom couldn't follow. Where he couldn't really even make an attempt at catching.. Stars.. what bad luck.

Leopardsun was about to comment on Echomist's missed catch- reassurance, perhaps, or advice for next time, or something- but she didn't get the chance. She felt it before she saw it, the rustling of an unnatural breeze that made her fur stand on end. "Watch out-!"

Her warning was misplaced, however. A flash of feathers and sharp, cold eyes was all she caught sight of. Echomist was not the owl's target, and she felt the impact of its blow. Worry turned to anger, and she bristled in response, rearing up onto her hind legs to reach her assailant.

"Echomist! Help me take this thing down?"

Echomist turned his attention to his companion when he heard her call. A flash of feathers is all he saw, but the damage had already been done. Hackles raised, and lips drawn back into a snarl the tom was quick to jump into action. There was no way he was going to let this Owl continue to hurt his friend. The spotted tom didn't hesitate to rake his claws across the owl.
