| It was a fine day. The hot sun beat down on Cherrycloud as she wandered through the forest. She had grown tired of staying in camp and set off in a random direction, not sure where she was or where she was going. A small shape just above the lush undergrowth steadily grew bigger until she was standing right in front of it. She recognized it as Snakerocks and sat underneath a tree, escaping some of the heat. Cherrycloud sat admiring the forest. Minkstar did say that I had an appreciation of beauty, she mused to herself. Life was a lot different now than when she was young.
A small fluttering butterfly caught her attention. She watched it as it flew closer to the giant rock pile, landing on some flowers. She had never seen anything like them. She took a few steps closer, inspecting their petals. She tentatively reached out a paw to try and pluck a few from where they lay. A creature flashed out from a small nook, faster than she could react. It bit her foreleg, and she felt the wound burn as it let go and slithered away. She let out a loud yowl of pain and jumped back. Her vision began to swim, and she collapsed to the ground. Panic coursed through her body, telling her to run and escape from this wretched place. But she couldn't. She was trapped here. Nothing seemed to work the way she wanted. She fought to stay awake through heavy, labored breathing. She knew it was no use. No one would come to help her. All that her life had been led up to this. She could have done so much more -- would have done so much more -- but this was just the unfairness of life.
After what seemed like hours, Cherrycloud gave in. She slipped into unconsciousness, only vaguely aware of anything that happened around her. Everything to her was dark, empty. |
