Recovery Process [Batsong]

Brackenwing's green eyes narrowed at the light streaming through the den's entrance, and she shifted, turning away and shutting her eyes tightly. It did little to help the pounding in her skull, evidenced by the marbled tabby's ears resting flat against her head and the irritable twitch of her dark-tipped tail. By how the light pooled, she judged that it had to be a bit before sunhigh at least... Normally a time when she'd be on patrol or helping around camp. It made Brackenwing restless despite her current state of grogginess to be cooped up in the den for this long, and the intermittent migraines and bouts of nausea didn't help. It had been a few days since the gathering, and her memories of them were somewhat fuzzy. She remembered that there had been some sort of drama at the gathering, but that was fuzzy too. It made her anxious for a reason Brackenwing couldn't name. Just as well, since people seemed to be determined to keep her awake, intentionally or not. Her ear twitched at the sound of pawsteps, but Brackenwing forced herself to remain still.

Batsong returned to the den and checked on her patient who she was very concerned for. At the gathering, all heck broke lose and she had to carry a knocked out Brackenwing back to camp. She had kept a watchful eye on her but was worried alot as she was a very new med cat apprentice and had no real formal mentor to ask advise from... yes smallbean had helped alot initially moving in since he had experience ... but it was long ago that he was med cat and with newer techniques always being worked on she wished she had a more formal mentor.

She was doing her best as med cat apprentice however and she was kinda finally starting to get a handle on things. She noticed her patient was finally awake and she was very relived by this. Brackenwing was hit hard at the gathering and Batsong was worried about how hard they had been hit by the angry ice starclan had thrown down at the clans.

Walking slowly and quietly over to her half sister she sat beside her purring softly "Its g-good to s-see you awake" she said quietly mindful not to make unnessary loud noices with voices... she was usually quite cat anyways so this was easy enough.

"You g-got hit pretty hard... h-how much do you remember?" she asked gently. She wanted to gauge how bad the head injury really was but also didnt want to startle Brackenwing.... she hoped she was doing the right thing here.

"Can y-you look side to side for me without moving your head?" she wanted to check her eyes and make sure nothing was hurt there too.

"w-we can get something f-for pain to i-if that would help in just a s-second

Batsong had tried to keep her voice quiet, but the sound was still enough to make Brackenwing wince. Why did she have to talk? Was it so bad to just sit in silence? Couldn't she tell her head was pounding? The question of what she remembered gave Brackenwing pause. How did she wind up here, from the gathering? Her memories of most of it were fuzzy, actually... There had been drama, drama that hadn't involved Windclan and thus was unimportant. And Windclan's elders had decided to involve themselves in the drama for... What reason, Brackenwing couldn't fathom. And the rest... She wasn't sure, actually. The pain radiating from the side of her skull tended to eclipse anything else. If she really focused she could tell she was bruised, but they were nothing compared to the pounding in her skull.

"I remember our elders being stupid and... That's it. I can't imagine it was over something worthwhile." Brackenwing growled, uncharacteristically irritable. At Batsong's instruction she reluctantly opened her eyes again, not at all enjoying the too-bright light filtering into the den. Still, she tried to do as asked. Keeping her head still was the easy part, her eyes though... It was like what was in front of her shifted slightly when she tried to look in a different direction. A brief doubling... jumping, almost, of the edge of the nest and Batsong's face before things seemed to snap back into place almost instantly. It hardly lasted long, but the effect made Brackenwing instinctively blink to clear the blurriness.

((OOC: The eye issue is nystagmus, essentially just involuntary eye movement caused by the concussion.))

Batsong sighed quietly at the warriors irritation. She understood how much the head injury likely hurt. Watching the eye movments she was a little concerened by the nystagmus and it was enough proof of a concussion that Batsong knew needed a close eye on. There would be no warrior duties for Brackenwing until this cleared completely up... she knew that was probably not going to be a popular demand but she never had cared about popularity to begin with. Was this too overprotective? hmm perhaps the dark molly thought to herself but this was her job now.


"Your m-memory and eye issues are c-..concerning. You have a bad concussion and will not return to normal duties until it is completely cleared" she meowed quietly.

Batsong was new to being a med cat but she knew that one of the most dangerous things with concussions was second injuries. If not fully healed and Brackenwing got hurt again it would be even worse as the head was already sensitive... best to take it slow until fully clear...

She rumeged through the herb piles until she found what she wanted. Setting a juniper berry in front of the warrior in offering "t-this can sooth your pain and ease your mind she explained.

She sat with the warrior for a little in silence closing her eyes. After a little while she got up and slowly walked out to leave her patient in peace.

"I will instruct s-smallbean not to put you on any p-atrols until recovered.. and no one to bother you." she said barely audible.

Batsong is slowly leaving but is still close enough that if Bracken needs anything can still ask her ect.

"Oh, fantastic." Brackenwing muttered sourly. No warrior duties? It wasn't... Entirely unexpected, but hearing it was still disappointing, all the same. When she got out of this den she was going to throttle those elders. It wasn't Batsong she was angry with, not truly. Eyes cracking open just enough to see the purple berry placed in front of her, Brackenwing sniffed at it wearily for a moment before reluctantly chewing and swallowing and letting her eyes fall shut again. Anything to dull the pain would be welcome.

Pawsteps heading away from her slowly confirmed the new medicine cat was retreating. As much as Brackenwing enjoyed spending time with her on most days, today she would be grateful for the silence. "Batsong-" She began softly, "Thanks."
