bearkit's apprentice ceremony

Mottlerose approached the high rock, looking at it for a moment before leaving up onto it. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a clan meeting!"

The familiar words made Bearkit's heart race as she bounded towards the sound. She'd been longing to be an apprentice for moons, and she'd finally reached the age. If this wasn't her ceremony, she was going to be disappointed. She could feel the excitement buzzing through her body. She skid to a stop in front of the rock, tipping forwards as she sat down abruptly. Her brown eyes stared up towards Mottlerose, awaiting her every word. Sitting for more than a few moments made her feel restless, so lately she had begun to claw softly at the dirt as she sat. She just felt so restless all the time. Maybe being an apprentice would fix that. She'd be able to leave camp, for starters.

Mottlerose smiled at the young kit. "Bearkit, you've reached the age of six moons. As such, it is time for you to be an apprentice, and you'll now be known as Bearpaw. Dayquill will be your mentor, and I have no doubts he will teach you everything he knows."

Bearkit couldn't believe her luck when she heard her name. In hindsight, becoming an apprentice wasn't that big of a deal, but in that moment, it meant everything to her. Her grin widened as she heard her new name. Bearpaw. She'd fantasized about this for ages, but it was so much cooler when it actually happened. And Dayquill was her mentor! She wanted to start training as soon as she could. Bearpaw ran over towards Dayquill, skidding to a stop in front of her mentor. "When does training start?" she asked, her words rushed and slurred together from her excitement

Dayquill had only been half-watching the ceremony, ears twitching periodically to show an idle sense of interest. It was always a nice thing, to watch the Clan grow, but ceremonies were always more or less the same; rarely did they earn his full attention. That was, at least, until Mottlerose called his name. Another one? He wondered, turning to blink curiously at the deputy. Before he could find his new apprentice, the little cat had already raced up to him, barely sliding to a halt before bowling him over. "Tomorrow," he answered evenly, the corners of his mouth twitching into a smile as he leaned down to touch his nose to his apprentice's head. "Early, at sunrise. Get some sleep tonight, okay?"
