Thunderclan's Hunt-a-palooza [OPEN]

Mottlerose's amber gaze found itself sweeping over the camp. The day was quite beautiful out, and it was time to stretch some legs. All of her kits had found their way with a mentor in one form or another, and she finally felt comfortable leaving camp. Her instincts to protect every member of the clan from the intruders still seemed to control her movements, but she had become much more discreet in their control as of recent times. Her ferocity for loving those around her would never go away, but at the same time, there were still plenty of mouths to feed. The idea had popped into her mind after asking herself the question on how to keep everyone safe, as venturing into the territory during the harsh season while alone was still forbidden.

Sitting near the entrance to the camp, the tortoiseshell warrior sat with her tail curled around her paws. Her mind momentarily reflected upon her vigil that she had held seemingly so long ago. A gentle smile flicked across her maw at the memory, before she took a breath. The warrior didn't often speak very loudly at all, in fact speaking to multiple cats at once was a feat all in itself. Having prepared herself mentally, it was time. "Any apprentices or warriors who desire to go hunting, whether it be to learn or simply sharpen skills, come meet me at the entrance to the camp!" The confidence in her voice was certainly in part a facade, but she was rather proud at her ability to execute it.

After the cats who wished to join her gathered, she stood. With a flick of her tail, she signaled them to follow her out of the camp. No longer did the thorns ever snag at her pelt as she went through, as practiced seasons brought with it a muscle memory that was quite beneficial. Taking a slow, almost trotting pace, the warrior led the group towards the heart of their territory. No apprentices would theoretically be able to cross any borders chasing prey, and they would have plenty of space to spread out so as to not scare all of it off quickly. "We will reconvene here when we are all finished, and feel free to keep any prey that you do catch here in the center. This will make it easier for all of us to collect it and bring it back to camp." She announced, hoping that she wasn't acting like a fool. She simply wanted everyone to be organized, and to make this as productive as possible.

The day was actually nice out, despite the abhorrent creatures skulking near the edge of camp, and Atalante found that she really didn't want to spend the day sitting around doing nothing. It seemed as though at least one other warrior had the same idea, and her ears flicked at Mottlerose's call. Standing, Atalante shook out her fluffy pelt and padded over. "I'll join you." Atalante mewed softly.

It wasn't long before others joined them, and Atalante was happy to follow Mottlerose out into the territory. With a nod to the other warrior after she'd finished speaking, the fluffy tortoiseshell turned away from the patrol, following the scent of mouse on the breeze and quickly spotting it. Unfortunately, the wind shifted before she got close enough to pounce, and Atalante's tail lashed in annoyance as the mouse darted away.

Giving a nod to Featherfrost, she branched out to find her own prey once it seemed that everyone was on the same page. Hopefully, the distant stars would bless them with a successful hunt. Her maw parted in eagerness, hoping to pinpoint any scent that may waft into her nostrils. As an unfortunate downside to inviding so many of her clanmates out to hunt, their scents also came floating to her. Pushing her senses beyond that, a familiar smell finally hit her nose. Rodents were still found about the forest during the harsh season, and she would take advantage of that. Her whiskers twitched with hope as her paws carried her to where the prey was hidden.

It seemed that another had the same idea as Mottlerose, as a loud screech was heard loud within the sky. Snapping her head upwards, Mottlerose caught the sound of an owl. Quickly rolling out of the way with a hiss, her pelt fluffed up at the predator in frustration. Unsheathing her claws, she coiled back, only to pounce and stike at the large bird's wings. Her goal would be to avoid completely mauling the creature, as it would be able to serve as a potential meal. Granted, not a great one, but in these times... food was food.

Mottlerose was unsuccessful at hunting costing 7 stamina, and an owl appeared! Mottlerose used jumping strike, using 7 stamina and dealing 10 damage.

Morningpaw loved to hunt. While all he knew was the cold and the hardships of winter, the apprentice still enjoyed using his nose to pick out where prey was...or had been. His mother's call jolted the tom out of his grooming, and he practically leaped across the clearing to join her. "Let's go together." He purred, happily trotting off at her side. Leaving the camp always left a feeling of thrill deep in his chest. With the dark forest cats watching, it was even more of a treat.

With the snow, and the chill in the air, prey tended to not show up. They preferred the warm den versus the sharp air. Not that Morningpaw blamed them much, but it lead to more sniffing than hunting. For a moment, he thought he caught the scent of a mouse, but a screech caught his attention. Upright, the tom turned towards he had parted ways with his mother. "Not my mom, you mousebrain!" The apprentice called, leaping across a sandy bank to drive a bite into the owl's wings.

As soon as he let go, his green eyes widened. This owl was...much bigger than Morningpaw.

Of course, she could never just have a day of hunting go uninterrupted by predators. At least it wasn't a raccoon this time. Atalante bounded forward, claws raking across the owl's feathers as Mottlerose and Morningpaw attacked the owl. Her paws slammed into the bird's head, momentarily disorienting it.

Mistlepaw had been trotting behind them all, sticking to the undergrowth to keep her rather noticeably white haunches out of sight of potential prey. The winter snow was a pain with her short stature, she felt more like a mole than a cat as she shovelled through the thick snows. However, with her prideful nature, the apprentice didn't say a word, even as she fell behind the hunting party, especially since she didn't want to appear weak in front of her brother. By the time she finally caught up to the party, she received a rude shock at the sight of a huge owl fighting them all!

"Get away from my brother!" Mistlepaw screeched like a bat, her fur all fluffed up to make herself appear as large as possible. The little she-cat ran at the owl as far as her legs could take her in the snow, jumping from root to root to the best of her abilities. Finally, when she was close enough, she pounced, slamming into the beast with unsheathed claws.

Mottlerose had all of her attention focused on her owl, but a swell of pride appeared in the motherly molly as her children and Featherfrost seemed to come to her aide. In no time, the owl had realized it was outnumbered - only to find itself finally struck down by Mistlepaw. Giving a shake of her fur as she physically attempted to get the taste of owl out of her mouth, she nudged the bird to ensure it truly was dead. "Mistlepaw, Morningpaw, good job. Both of you. This should also help feed the Clan a bit." Sure, its wings had been rather shredded, but they often didn't eat the wings anyways.

The owl is dead!

But, hunting still had to go on. Her tail rippled as she gave her children and Featherfrost a nod, before padding off to explore more of the territory. A mouse had caught her nose, and in an attempt to catch it, she found herself being clumsy. A twig that she hadn't detected snapped beneath her paws, and scared off her prey in an instant. It was a rookie mistake. She hissed under her breath, shaking her head. She'd try to find another item of prey.

Morningpaw relaxed as the owl fell limp to the icy ground. Standing tall, the apprentice bounded over to his sister to deliver a lick to the top of her head. "Just in time." He purred, eyes shining as he looked between the cats around the corpse. His tail high, he closed his eyes. They just took on an owl and won! ThunderClan was truly the best. Giving his mother a nod, and beckoning Mistlepaw after him, he strolled a distance away, hoping to avoid any creature who might have heard them.

"Let's see..." He trailed off, tasting the air. Smelling a rodent, the tom dropped into a crouch. Whatever mouse Morningpaw had smelled, a figure shifted, lunging towards the small cat. "Ahh!" Came a sharp yowl, the tom backing off, blood on his cheek.

It wasn't long before the rest of the patrol jumped on the owl, and it fell quickly. "At least it wasn't another raccoon this time. Maybe we can salvage some of the feathers for our nests too." Atalante found herself grinning. "Everyone okay?" Nobody looked worse for wear upon a quick glance, and it seemed as though Mottlerose had the same idea as she turned away to hunt, as did one of the apprentices. Atalante was happy to do the same...

...So of course, the cry of a cat in what Atalante thought was pain had to break the silence. Another predator? She charged toward Morningpaw's voice, a growl escaping her at the sight of the raccoon. Of course she'd spoken much too soon. Of course they would encounter a raccoon out here, because that was just her luck. "Foxdung, get away from him." Atalante huffed out, claws extending as she slashed at the raccoon's flank.
