A starving clan

Softpaw sat at the entrance of the apprentice his green eyes squinted scanning over the camp from side to side, hmm the fresh kill pile was running low and with the new kits around Thunderclan would need all they prey it could get right now.  He pawed at the ground angerly which was becoming more and more of his typical mood.  He was constantly hungry, prey was scarce during this season and there was barely enough to go around even with Thudnerclan being a relatively small clan. The problem was not that they were not willing to hunt... it was that rival clans kept taking more and more of the viable hunting grounds.  Riverclan especially which he had a deep hatred for ever since they stole his catch had made him angry every single day.  But ... he was okay with that it gave him motivation and drive to get things done.  He was going to help Thunderclan no matter what!

He poked his head into the apprentice den his eyes adjusting to the dim den.

Fawnpaw the newly named mca was there as was Comfreypaw was there.  The sisters were sitting near each other.  Tilting his head and flicking his tail back and forth he greeted them "Wanna go hunting?" he asked hoping she would agree to help the clan out.

He flicked his tail impatiently as he gave a flick with his head as if to say come on. He next went to the medicine cat den to check on Fawnpaw, if she wanted to come, they would need all the paws they could get and even though she was a medicne cat, Softpaw reasoned that every cat of Thunderclan should know how to hunt. "Heya Fawnpaw! We need your help on hunting" he meowed. His eyes squinting



OOC: Arcana mentioned to me that Fawnpaw would not really be in the apprentice den but rather in the med den which is a super good point (Thank you :) ) ... So I have revised this to show that but have kept the old parts in strike out so that it is easy to see the changes so that no one is confuesed by old versions.

Reedpaw noticed Softpaw ask the two sisters. he gulped down the rest of his mouse and bounded to Softpaw's side. "Hey, may I come?" he asked hopefully.

Fawnpaw curled in her nest. She was still puzzled by the dream she'd seen on her journey to the Moonstone, though she hadn't mentioned it to Dovefrost yet. Unable to resolve her question, she couldn't find herself able to fall asleep. There were still so many questions left in her mind.. dreams like that weren't supposed to be normal, right? And just then— a voice broke through the silence.

"Heya Fawnpaw! We need your help on hunting."

Fawnpaw shot awake, her ears swiveled high as a cat called for her. Wait, her? Why her? Though puzzled, she stretched, awakening from her slumber. "I'll be right there, hold on a moment!" Not trained with combat nor proper hunting skills a warrior-in-training would have, Fawnpaw reached for some cobwebs tangled on a stick... just in case, anyway. She didn't know what she'd be facing out in the forest. As she ducked out of the medicine den, she was met with Reedpaw and Comfreypaw, a pleasant surprise. She'd offer her sister a small smile, then a quick, brief nod at Reedpaw. He was an older apprentice— one she didn't know so well, but perhaps, she'd be able to know about her clanmates more once she's interacted with them.

"Wish me luck, Comfreypaw. If my hunts don't do so well, I might try to find herbs for Dovefrost instead," She teased, gently bumping her sister's shoulder.

She had awaken hungry. It was an uncommon experience to the new apprentice, whom had been fed well as a kit. Now she must hunt for her clan. To make food possible for the next litter and the one after that. Comfreypaw felt proud at that aspect of her new role in this beloved clan. Eager to start hunting she hastily groomed herself within the apprentice den. Her fur was thankfully never tangled, but it collected dirt and snow just the same as anyone else. Soon enough she was prepared to leave her nest and enter a busy but enjoyable day of clan duties. And perfect timing! Another apprentice nearby asked her to hunt with him. Comfreypaw nodded with a smile and hurried after Softpaw.

She was surprised when the grey tom brought her directly to the medicine den, however was in no way against bringing Fawnpaw along. She was in fact eager for her sister to accept the offer. Together they could maybe learn more about their patrol-mates, Softpaw and Reedpaw. Comfreypaw returned the medicine cat apprentice's shoulder bump with a lick on her cheek before mewing back, "I'm certain you'll do just fine Fawnpaw." She turned to the other apprentices, "It can't be too hard right Softpaw? Reedpaw? How long have you two been apprentices I wonder?"

"A few moons, but Appledapple says we should be warriors soon!" Reedpaw replied to Comfrypaw's question. "Can we go now, if every cat's ready?" he added.

Softpaw nodded in agreement to his brother's answer "yeah its not too bad and we will show you the idea too" he said excitedly.  This would be good, it would get some much needed food for thunderclan and every cat should know how to hunt a little bit even medicine cats softpaw figured.

He flicked his tail in eagerness and readyness. "come on!" he meowed enthused as he walked out into the forest beyond the camp walls.  He was ready and wanted to help push thunderclan forward.


He walked as quietly as he could throught the forest so as to not scare any prey away.  Spotting a mouse nearby he walked quietly towards it once he was withing leaping range he did his best to fling himself at the mouse.


His form was a bit slopy and not well practiced but it got results. He hit the mouse dead on and held up his prize for the rest of the patrol to see.

"see its not so hard!" he grinned

“Nice catch!" Reedpaw cheered for Softpaw. at least he was being a good example to the younger cats. Reedpaw switched his focus to a small shape shifting at the roots of an oak.

he padded up to it but was disappointed to find it was only a fallen twig. he gave Softpaw a tired smile before sitting back on his haunches.

Fawnpaw watched as they left the camp, and quickly trotted along after. After finally reaching the spot, she sniffed the air, observing how Reedpaw and Softpaw would've done it first. As Softpaw succeeded, she felt at least a bit of hope rising in her abilities, though narrowed her eyes at the prey scattering away from Reedpaw's paws. Well, that was... the worst situation, then. Sharply flicking her tail, Fawnpaw glanced away, eyes scanning for more prey to come. Quietly stepping away from the group— though not too far, she sought for prey of her own.

Her eyes settled on a rodent, scurrying near a bush, completely unaware of her existence. Crouching down, she crept to it, the pounced forward. Her hunting skills had been rusty, and she lashed her tail as the creature just barely missed from her grasp. "The rodent was lucky," She'd mutter, returning back to the group to look for more.

Fawnpaw attempted to hunt Rodent for 7 SP. It was Unsuccessful!

"That's ok! I missed as well!" Reedpaw called to Fawnpaw. he switched his focus to another smol small mouse that appeared behind him. it sniffed around curiously, completely unaware of the huge, still tom watching it with keen blue eyes.

he quickly lashed out a paw, only to watch the mouse scurry away under a root just a heartbeat before his claws touched the ground. Reedpaw signed and glanced back at the rest of the patrol.

Comfreypaw and the others set out into their territory and eventually found their way to nice hunting grounds. The she-cat pressed her furry black paws into the snow. Her paw pads felt uncomfortable and frostbitten, but it wasn't too much of a bother. Softpaw went first, kind enough to demonstrate for her and Fawnpaw. "Impressive!" she chimed cheerfully. Then Reedpaw and Fawnpaw attempted their own hunts, both missing. Comfreypaw bumped her forehead against her sister's shoulder. "Try again Fawnpaw, I believe in you," she encouraged softly.

All of the other apprentices had given a shot at catching prey, now it was her turn. She tried finding tracks or scent trails within the snow, but there wasn't much other than her patrol-mates' traces. Comfreypaw traveled a bit farther away from the group, but staying close enough to hear them. She came across a bundle of berry bushes, somehow still alive despite the harsh conditions. The she-cat was impressed, and grateful. The smell of prey was strong here. This is probably a main food source for critters. Lucky me! Lowering her body, the apprentice steadily crept closer to the berry bushes. She could see slight rustling coming from a certain spot. Comfreypaw resisted the urge to immediately pounce, instead she patiently aimed her path towards the disturbed leaves. Quiet, slow steps...

Her whiskers could now sense it, the tiny breathing of a mouse. Since she knew her prey's exact location, the hunter felt confident enough to swipe. Her arm darted into the bush, adrenaline pulsing through her muscles. She could feel her claws latch onto something. Quickly pulling her paw back, the results were soon clear. It was still alive, but Comfreypaw had his tail. She blinked, swatting the mouse with her other paw. It became still, and she relaxed. The she-cat's focus and patience had worked. Smiling with pride, she gently grasped the mouse and returned to her friends.

Comfreypaw attempted to catch a mouse... Successful!
