Burrpaw's Warrior Ceremony

Bloodstar's joints popped more than he would have liked as he kicked off of the ground and landed on Tallbranch. "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the Tallbranch for a clan meeting!" His voice rang out across camp. He kicked the snow off of Tallbranch before he sat down. With no tail to protect his booty, he wasn't keen on sitting in the cold.

Slightfrost stepped into the clearing. just a few sunrises ago he had his own ceremony. what did the all mighty Bloodstar have to say now?

Burrpaw heard Bloodstar’s call and walked towards the clearing. He remembered Wolfstar, back when he was a new apprentice, and it would take some getting used to.

He walked towards the left side of the gathering of cats, unsure what the meeting was for.

"Skyclan is gathered here to witness another warrior join the ranks. Burrpaw, come forward. I, Bloodstar, call upon our warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn. Burrpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and to protect and defend your clan, even at the cost of your life?"

Bloodstar stared down at Burrpaw the entire time that he spoke. At least Skyclan was still growing despite the harsh leafbare. They'd need all the capable hunters that they could get.

Great StarClan, this was it. He would be a warrior.

His mouth felt full of dirt as he tried to speak. “I do,” Burrpaw replied, staring back at Bloodstar.

Bloodstar was terrifying in his own right, but Burrpaw knew he was a capable warrior and a great leader.

What would be his new name? He hated being an apprentice for so long. It would be nice to be entrusted to roam camp as needed.

‘We did it, Birdsong, I’m a warrior now.’

A weak smile formed on his face as he glanced up at the sky. Maybe they were celebrating up there, only they would know.

"Then by the powers of Starclan, I give you your warrior name, Burrfur. Skyclan honors your ingenuity and zeal."

Bloodstar jumped off of Tall branch and rested his chin on top of Burrfur's head. "Congratulations Burrfur." He stepped back and allowed the rest of the clan to congratulate him.

“Thanks, thank you,” Burrfur squeaked, still processing the moment.

He would have to keep vigil, that much he knew. But it would be bizarre to be able to wake up whenever. No more peeling ticks off of elders. Gross.

The Clan surrounded him, and for the first time in a long time, he felt genuinely happy. Birdsong was watching him, along with every warrior before him.

This is home, and I’ll fight to my last breath.

"Burrfur! Burrfur!" Slightfrost chanted, though he wanted to laugh. Burrfur? great starclan, Burrpaw was terrible but Burrfur was just so plain! his warrior names was Cleary better!
