Subject: Forestkit's Apprentice Ceremony Fri 25 Feb 2022 - 22:01
Another night, another ceremony. The kit population in Shadowclan was quite high, and had come near the same time. That meant that after a lull, suddenly he was doing ceremonies frequently, kits asking about becoming an apprentice too often for Frostgaze's liking. Oh well, there wasn't much he could do about that. Leaping onto the Jaggedrock, the deputy's call rang out through the clearing. "All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, gather in the shadow of Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!"
❒ Forestkit had a hunch of what this meeting was going to be. It wasn't a hundred percent confirmed but he was going to prepare himself anyway—which meant a quick grooming of his fur and some deep breaths to calm his excitement. He was also a bit nervous about having so many eyes on him but that feeling was on the backburner for now. Maybe it wasn't even his ceremony. He was hopeful though. He wanted to join Icepaw in the apprentice's den—it was also for him to finally leave his mother's nest once and for all. All those depressing memories could finally be pushed into the past.
❒ Once the kit was happy with his fur and his nerves, he joined his clanmates out in the clearing. He quickly found a spot to sit near the front and let out a shaky sigh. "Please let this be my ceremony..." he whispered to himself. He focused on the tom atop the Jaggedrock and offered him a shy smile as well as a tiny wave with a paw. He wasn't sure if Frostgaze saw the greeting but he sure hoped so.

Deerleap sat down at the edge of the crowd. she noticed Forestkit and gave a friendly flick of her tail. so it was his apprentice ceremony? about time too!

Swiftheart was luckily in camp this time at the start of this meeting so she walked over and sat near deerleap and Forestkit who had already gathered. She glanced around, she was actually not sure what this meeting was about yet, but she had her guesses.
She gave Forestkit an encouraging grin.
"Hows the hunting been for you?" she turned to Deerleap asking

While Swiftheart and Deerleap spoke to one another, Icepaw made her way over to Forestkit. Her ear twitched as she watched their deputy speak on the rock and she leaned against Forestkit, bumping their bodies together lightly.
"You're next due to be apprenticed," she whispered to him. "I heard some of the older apprentices speaking about it." She was fairly certain that this was his ceremony, and she figured that he knew it as well.
She did wonder who his mentor was going to be. She'd seen him speak to a few warriors and she figured he got along great with all of them. Whoever his mentor ended up being, she knew that he would be happy.

As Frostgaze's yowl echoed across the camp, Duskflight's ears perked. The dark-furred tom soon gathered with the crowd, scanning the area, and managed to spot Forestkit not too far by— and now, he was grown.. The younger, small tom-kit he knew, though only briefly, has become apprentice-aged already. Swiftheart, Deerleap, and even Icepaw— now no longer Icekit was also there, gathered with everyone else around. Not wanting to push through the crowd, he silently waved to Forestkit, smiling. He'd be there for the kit as an acquaintance, or if not, a friend if even possible despite not knowing each other very well.. yet. They've met once, though he wished for them both to talk again, someday.

"Its been nice!" Deerleap replied to her former mentor. she flicked her tail towards Forestkit. "I wonder who will get to mentor him... maybe Ratrunner or Loudnose?"

Snowpaw padded over and sat down with Swiftheart and Deerleap. “I haven’t the slightest idea,” she commented in response to Deerleap’s thought. “I just hope they’re a good fit.”
Frostgaze watched the clan gather, then began the ceremony quickly. "Shadowclan! I have gathered you here to witness the naming of a new apprentice. Forestkit, step forward." A short pause allowed for Forestkit to move, before he continued. "Forestkit, you have reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From this day forward, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Forestpaw. Ratrunner will be your mentor. I trust that he will pass down his compassion and dedication to you." With that, he leapt down from his position, pleased to see yet another kit apprenticed.
Ratrunner — arriving a little later than the others — sat down quietly beside his friend, hoping not to disrupt. He nodded to Duskflight with a tired smile. Frostgaze, perhaps more than usual, was swift and direct. Forestkit’s ceremony? Ratrunner felt a spark of joy for the young tom, and sat up straighter so as to glimpse his gray and white pelt among the crowd.
Looking up at Frostgaze, Forestkit’s fur seemed to glow. He will do well, Ratrunner knew, with that belief in his yellow-gold eyes. Even if Forestpaw was nervous. And his mentor would help—
His mentor—?
Ratrunner blinked, as Frostgaze finished. And then shook his coat suddenly, rising to step forward — glancing briefly back at Duskflight. The tom was no longer the youngest warrior, by far, but… Then he was there, in front of the young tom.
He smiled softly — encouragingly — and gently touched Forestpaw’s nose with his own. He knows me. The surprise faded into a slow, brimming excitement. He turned to nod respectfully to Frostgaze — who entrusted him with this — and then back to Forestpaw.
“I can take you out first thing tomorrow,” Ratrunner mewed, and his tail swayed with the words. “As soon as you’re ready.”
His words felt brief, too short, but inside Ratrunner’s mind raced with all the things he could show Forestpaw — and what the young tom would want to know first.
❒ Forestkit's nerves were smothered down at the sight of Icepaw seating herself next to him. He gave her a small smile and nodded. "I-I sure hope so," he whispered. He'd noticed some familiar faces offering him grins and smiles a bit before Icepaw's arrival—perhaps to encourage him and give him some confidence. He returned their greetings with a few waves of a paw and a lopsided smile. He felt warm knowing that they were trying to give him a bit of a boost. The kit's head snapped back as Frostgaze began the ceremony. This was it. He really hoped Icepaw was right...
❒ This was definitely it. Icepaw was right! The meeting was about his apprentice ceremony! He let out the breath he hadn't realized he was holding. He was finally going to be getting a mentor as well as start his apprenticeship. As the kit stood up and step forward, things just felt right. Here goes...
❒ As soon as the ceremony had ended, Forestpaw grinned as he watched Ratrunner come forward to touch noses with him. He was more than happy to get someone he knew as his mentor. It made things a bit easier for his awkward self.
❒ He looked up at his mentor and nodded as he listened to him speak. "A-Alright! I'm ready for it," he meowed softly yet with confidence, eyes twinkling at the prospect of finally starting his journey to warriorhood. The apprentice offered the older tom a smile. "I-I'm glad you're my mentor. I think y-you're really cool," he purred with genuine sincerity.

Icepaw purred proudly as Forestpaw received his apprentice name. She was even happier for him seeing as he'd earned Ratrunner as a mentor. She was certain that Ratrunner was a great fit for Forestpaw, and she was happy that Forestpaw had taken up her advice to meet him before the ceremony. It had been clear to their leaders that they were a good fit too. She hoped that Ratrunner could help bring Forestpaw out of his shell, at least a little bit.
After giving the both of them a moment to speak with one another, she walked up and pressed her cheek against Forestpaw's briefly.
"Congratulations, Forestpaw," she meowed. Her voice was filled with pride for him. "We can go hunting together in the future." Her gaze moved to Ratrunner and she smiled. "I hope you'll take good care of him. He needs a kind mentor, but I'm sure you'll provide." Her tail shifts towards Ratrunner in a good-natured gesture for her other friend.
Swiftheart was so happy to hear that her friend Ratrunner would be receiving an apprentice. She smiled widely and walked over to them. "Congrats Forestpaw!" she squealed excitedly. She knew the appretice fairly well-ish all things considered. She was happy for both of them.
She grinned at Ratrunner "Ratrunner and you will make an excellent team!" she agreed with the choice and supported that fully.
