It had been awhile since Skyclan's last ceremony. He was concerned about the number of kits... or lack thereof. The leaf-bare season was harsh however, so he shrugged it off for now. Maybe right now was not the best time for kits anyway. "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the Tallbranch for a clan meeting!" He called out from on top of the Tallbranch. He sat there patiently and waited for Driftpaw and the rest of the clan to gather.

Driftpaw lumbered out of the apprentices' den and took a seat at the base of the Tallbranch. He had recently returned from his Moonstone journey, and had an inkling that he knew what this ceremony was about. While he waited, he smoothed stray fur down with a few licks, a nervous (or perhaps excited?) buzzing filling his chest. Leafbare had been hard, or so his older Clanmates said, and even the plump Driftpaw was slimming down from lack of food.
Fernpetal was right, he thought to himself, I do look like a plump RiverClanner... That would be something he needed to work on soon. Driftpaw sighed softly and turned his attention back to Bloodstar, waiting for the leader's next words.

Once Driftpaw and the rest of the clan had assembled beneath the Tallbranch, Bloodstar cleared his throat.
"Today, Skyclan witnesses a new warrior rising into our ranks. Driftpaw step forward. I, Bloodstar, call upon our warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. He has trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend him to you as a warrior in his turn. Driftpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and to protect and defend your clan, even at the cost of your life?"
Bloodstar recited the traditional ceremonial words and waited. He didn't doubt Driftpaw's loyalty, but tradition had to be upheld. He guessed.

Driftpaw stiffened, straightening up as Bloodstar called his name. The buzzing in his chest grew stronger, his heart thundering in his ears with anticipation. He had to admit, he had grown a little lax with his training coming to a close, but...this was his chance to do better. To be better.
He had grown during his apprenticeship, now a stocky, slightly overweight, muscular cat. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, he stared into Bloodstar's brilliant green eyes with a conviction rarely seen before.

He smiled back at Driftpaw and his eyes acknowledged the apprentice's conviction. Satisfied, Bloodstar brought the ceremony to a close. "Then by the powers of Starclan, I give you your warrior name, Driftcloud. Skyclan honors your compassion and loyalty." He jumped down from the Tallbranch... his joints making an embarrassing pop as they recoiled from the impact with the ground... and he rested his chin on Driftcloud's head. "Congratulations. Remember to take your vigil tonight." He stepped away and allowed the rest of the clan to greet their newest warrior.

Newtspring had been late to show up the ceremony, unwilling to shake himself awake when he heard his father's rousing call. He'd considered skipping out on it entirely, but the sound of Driftpaw's name got him to his paws, even if begrudgingly. "Driftcloud!" He yowled as he crossed the clearing, jogging up to his now-former apprentice to bump shoulders with the gray cat. "Told ya I'd make you jnto a good warrior. Took ya long 'nough, but I told ya so!"
Driftcloud. His name was now Driftcloud. His heart thundered in his ears as Bloodstar laid his chin on his head; it felt like a dream, almost. "'Course, Bloodstar, I will," he murmured, just loud enough for the leader to hear as the Clan began chanting his new name. A familiar voice rose above the rest, and Driftcloud turned with a wide grin to see Newtspring barreling towards him. They bumped shoulders, and he shoved back into his former mentor with a chuckle. "Yeah, yeah, I know ya did. I didn't believe ya, but here I am, so...you were right. Mentor's always right, huh?" His green gaze was playful as he blinked at Newtspring.
