Mistypaw’s Warrior Ceremony

“Let all cats old enough to run the moor gather under the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!” Goldenfang called, her voice clear. The snow that covered the ground and walls around them deafened everything else that made noise. It was beautiful, but the thin-furred molly was over it. At least today would be a good one.

Mistypaw was still rather tired when she walked out to watch the meeting. She couldn't stop thinking about either of her siblings. One was in StarClan, and another could very well be on his way to join them. It scared her. Even if Mistypaw did not care about much, she did care about her family. And it was falling apart. How could she sleep with all of that? She couldn't.

Even though she was sitting, her eyes were on the medicine den. She knew she wasn't allowed in there, or she might get sick too. But Berrypaw was fighting for his life in there. It was hard to stay away.

She watched the molly gaze worriedly at the medicine den. WindClan had a lot of souls to pray for. “We are gathered today to celebrate the naming of a new warrior. Mistypaw,” Her call to the apprentice was gentle, as if to remind her that they were in the middle of a conversation when she got distracted. “Step up and ready yourself. I call upon my warrior ancestors to look down upon this apprentice. She has worked hard to learn the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in return. Mistypaw, do you promise to protect and defend this Clan, even at the cost of your own life?" Mistypaw had already given her tail in a fight to protect WindClan’s territory. This was just a formality at this point.

It was a shock to have heard her own name being called by the soon-to-be-leader. Was she really becoming a warrior? None of the other cats her age had gotten a ceremony yet, did that mean she was the first? Somehow, it seemed a lot more daunting than she had expected it to be. Quickly, she scrambled forward, although she was far from prepared.

Listening to the typical ceremonial words, Mistypaw raised her head. Her thoughts wandered to Dreampaw, her sibling that had already given their life for the Clan. To Berrypaw, who did everything just so his Clanmates didn't have to suffer. This promise would be for them.

"I do."

"Then from this moment on, you will be known as Mistysky. WindClan honors your boldness and unwavering drive, and we welcome you as a full warrior. May your glowing strength of mind be as endless as the skies above." Goldenfang announced. She bounded down to the ground, pausing a moment to make sure her balance was unhindered by ice, and then stepped forward to rest her chin on Mistysky’s head. The leader moved back to allow the Clan to greet their new warrior with an approving smile.
