OOC: Battle System

Mistyfalcon led the two apprentices into the territory, the soft crunch of snow echoing beneath their paws. Hunting in this would be challenging, but hunting would be for another day. It had been some time since Swiftpaw had been apprenticed, and both she and Frogpaw had been working hard. He was pleased with how their training was coming along, and soon enough there would be little for him to teach either of them. They'd make fine warriors, when the time came.

"Alright, Frogpaw, Swiftpaw-" Mistyfalcon came to a stop in a small clearing that wasn't far from camp, turning and glancing between both apprentices. The stars above were partly obscured by cloud cover, and the snow in the clearing looked as it if were untouched until the trio stepped in it. "-You've both fought against predators and against me. Tonight you'll be sparring with each other." He stated simply, taking a few steps back to give them space. If either had questions, he'd answer them, but he was interested in seeing how the two would fare against each other. They'd trained together before, but for the most part Mistyfalcon had kept the two separate. Frogpaw had been an apprentice for a while when Swiftpaw had earned the name, but now he'd judged the two to be closer in skill, and that meant more training involving both of them together.

Swiftpaw shifted her weight back and forth uneasy, she tried her best to fight her nerves which were going crazy. Her hunting had come a long way since first being an apprentice but her fighting was marginal at best.

Sure she had fought an owl but she was convinced if Mistyfalcon was not there to save her she would have lost that really bad and possibly even be killed, and as for practice spars with Misty well it was no big surprise that she had lost all of those. This was her first time to practice with someone who should be roughly on her level. Although she still held Frogpaw as a better fighter in her mind as she had been training longer.

She did her best to push these negative thoughts aside.

She glanced at Frogpaw wondering if she felt as nervous. She didnt want to hurt her clanmate so she kept repeating in her mind remember no claws this is just practice

She took a deep breath and turned towards Frogpaw
"Ready?" she said in a soft voice

She crouched down low to the ground in a defensive position signaling she was ready

"Come at me" she growled.

OOC:
Frogpaw can have first move.

Frogpaw followed behind Mistyfalcon, flicking her tail to Swiftpaw in a friendly greeting to the white she-cat. Even though she was younger than Frogpaw by about a moon, the other apprentice had already surpassed her in height. But only by a little. The black apprentice knew that this was only a training exercise, but she couldn't help but feel a little nervous. She wanted to win, and show Mistyfalcon that she was ready to become a warrior.

Nodding at both of their words, Frogpaw decided to strike the first blow. She remembered what Mistyfalcon had taught her during their first sparring match, that surprise was one of the most important aspects of battle. She ran as fast as should to Swiftpaw's side, dealing a swift blow to her flank, of course keeping her claws sheathed.

Frogpaw used Front Paw Blow! -4 damage

Swiftpaw was surprised by the attack but she reacted quickly spinning to reface frogpaw
she growled and struck out hitting her opponent on the side with her paw her claws sheathed of course.

Swiftpaw remembering to save her energy kept low hoping for an opportunity to strike and get lucky

Swiftpaw used Front paw blow.

The black she-cat grit her teeth as Swiftpaw retaliated, but made no noise. After exchanging the blows, Frogpaw darted off a few tail-lengths away, giving her time to catch her breath and give her a few seconds to think of what to do next. "Hmmm..." She ran up behind Swiftpaw.

Frogpaw used Tail Yank. -7 Damage
Frogpaw: 16/20 HP 40/60 SP

Swiftpaw was caught off guard by this move and stumbled backwards falling over she spun around scrambling to her paws and dived at frogpaw hitting her with her head.

Swiftpaw used headbutt! -4 damage

Frogpaw: 12/20 hp 40/60 sp

"Unf!!" Frogpaw grunted as Swiftpaw's head slammed into her again. She panted, really feeling how tired she was becoming.

Frogpaw used Front Paw blow. -4

Swiftpaw meowed after getting smacked again. "oof" she was tired of fighting, this was taking aton of energy and she felt like she could not win this.

Ok she said panting tired. I give up you win

she sat down taking deep breaths very tired from the fight.

After a little of catching her breath she purred happily

Wow You are really good Frogpaw! she said encouragingly.

I'm glad we are on the same side!

She looked over to Mistyfalcon wondering what they would be doing next. Or if he had any ideas from watching what they could improve on.

Swiftpaw used Disengage

OOC: As this wasn't a serious fight and you both have the battle requirements elsewhere, we're going to let the mistakes (not utilizing the clan passive, attacking during a stun without using random recall) slide. As I've mentioned in dms, just keep these in mind for the future.

Mistyfalcon quietly stepped away, blue eyes focused on the two apprentices as they turned to each other.

Tail yank... Good. Swiftpaw would learn from that. Frogpaw had improved since the first time they'd sparred together, and Swiftpaw reacted much faster than Mistyfalcon thought she would. He cringed inwardly the moment he saw the headbutt. Thankfully this was only practice and they weren't trying to hurt each other or even throw their full force into the fight. Still, that was something to be nipped in the bud before they tried that tactic against a cat or predator that had more muscle. Where she'd even gotten the idea from, he didn't know. It certainly wasn't anything Mistyfalcon had taught her. The fight was over quickly after that, as it should be. Swiftpaw seemed okay, but he'd be keeping an eye on her regardless.

"Okay, sit." He mewed. Swiftpaw had backed off, the spar was over. Now... Critiques. Mistyfalcon had always been known for his honesty, and this would be no different.

"You're both improving. Trying to stun your opponent and keep them from moving is a good technique. Swiftpaw, you reacted quickly to it." And onto the bad... "Now, if I ever see either of you doing a headbutt while sparring again, I will put both of you on elder duty." He rumbled, glancing sternly between the two apprentices, "Few things will mess you up even more than it can mess up an opponent, and that is one of them. You are lucky that neither of you has much in the way of muscle mass and weren't actually trying to do real harm."
