New Room New View [OPEN]

Beechfang padded into camp, a squirrel and a pair of birds dangling from her jaws. Setting the prey on the fresh-kill pile, she waved her tail at her patrolmates and turned, making her way through the snow towards a clear patch of ground near the entrance to the warriors' den. Her vigil had taken place the night before, but she was too excited to actually stay asleep for a decent amount of time, so she'd joined a hunting patrol instead. Now that they'd returned successful despite the snow on the ground, she felt comfortable sitting around camp for a bit. The euphoria of her ceremony the day before had yet to fade, and she didn't feel like retiring to her new nest quite yet.

It'd become a little routine for Newtspring to sleep in, especially as the forest started growing colder. If asked, he'd always claim another night guard shift, even if that was only true half the time. Lumbering out of the warrior's den with a large yawn and taking the time to stretch each limb, the mottled tabby gave himself a shake and looked over camp. Looked like... Oh, Beechfac– fang just got back. A purr rolling through his chest, he padded over to her, bowing his head as he approached. "Well, look'it you go," he snickered, eying the prey she'd dropped. "Doin' somethin' ya actually like for once? How's it feel, bein' a warrior?"

Beechfang glanced up at the sound of a purr, watching Newtspring's mottled form padding towards her. Somehow, the little rat had managed to make himself strangely likeable. It didn't mean that Beechfang didn't want to smack him, but he was far better than either of his sisters, in her opinion.

"I was too excited to go sleep. Figured hunting would be nice." She shrugged. "There's a part of me still convinced that I'll wake up in the medicine den and this'll be a dream." She admitted. "Enjoy your nap, lazybones?" Her tone was light and... teasing. Strangely lacking in the usual animosity she reserved for most of her half-siblings.

Newtspring shook his head at Beechface's jeer, a toothy grin spreading across his features. "Hey, hey, don't go callin' me lazy. You 'aven't had to sit out on dad's shiny new night guard yet." His tail waved through the snow, and a quiet laugh rose from his chest. Beechfang was... Already, she seemed happier. Last time he really spoke to her as a medicine, she had been cursing their family and the stars.

Shouldering her gently, Newtspring mused, "I told ya you'd be a better warrior. How ya adjustin'?" Amber eyes flicked briefly towards the scars left by the lightning, to her missing eye, the deeper question of how have you coped with that? echoing quietly under his words. A tufted ear twitched as the tabby looked Beechfang over slowly, before he focused back on her face. "We should go huntin' or somethin' sometime. I'd like to see how ya do."

Beechfang scoffed, "Night guard? Could be worse." She shrugged. She was no stranger to not sleeping, at least. So long as she wasn't put on limb patrol...

She rolled her eye at Newtspring trying to shoulder her, ears flicking back for a brief moment at the question of how she was doing. "It feels nice to not have that weight on my shoulders." She admitted, "It's... been more difficult than I thought it would be. Nothing I can't handle, of course." She'd been busting her tail to improve, and it was finally starting to pay off. She'd earned her name before Rabbitpaw or even Cricketpaw, even though they'd been apprentices for longer. With her injuries, she had to work harder, but she wasn't about to let that stop her now.

"Oh, sure." She shrugged. It would be a way to improve... And her half-brother wasn't the worst cat she could go hunting with.

Mountainkit was bored out of his mind. He saw some cats come in from a hunt from the entrance of the nursery and saw them swapping stories.

He padded closer to them curious. He stopped and stared at Beechfang's face and wrinkled up his nose in disgust Beechfang was a spotted cat... he was raised to dislike spotted cats and despised them "uhh not sure if you noticed but your face got half eaten off by a badger. What did you do wrestle all of starclan?" he spat disrespectfully.

he snorted heavily through his nose you look terrible maybe you could go join shadowclan I hear they have some ugly looking fleabags over there you would fit right in.

he continued he padded up to Beechfang getting in her face. "You dont belong here he hissed

"'M glad yer doin' good," Newtspring purred, his words bordering on a warmth that was often reserved for Spottedfrog and Bearflower. Before he could offer to go hunting with Beechfang later in the day, a thin voice wavered up from near his paws.

A thin, very bold voice.

Stretching out a paw to box Mountainkit away, Newtspring dropped low to be eye level with the kit. "You really wanna talk to our former medicine cat that way? I dunno.. what if somethin' happens to ya and Muddythorn ain't around?" In the back of his mind, Newtspring tried to remember what he'd been like as a kit. He was mouthy now, but he was grown, too; was he that audacious when he was that young, too?

Leaning forward to roughly bump his nose with the kits, he went on, "She's the leader's kid too, ya know. An' my sister. You don't wanna say that 'round the wrong cat." Something in defense of ShadowClan sat against the tip of his tongue, but he swallowed thickly against it. He'd fought his whole life to fit in in SkyClan; he wasn't going to let a bratty kit's wayward remark at Beechfang (the irony at Mountainkit trying to cast out his actually SkyClan sister, unfortunately, wasn't lost, and his whiskers twitched at the realization) ruin that for him.

There was genuine warmth in Newtspring's reply, but before Beechfang could ponder on the strangeness of hearing that from her half-sibling, a new voice piped up. And the kit... Had the audacity to actually get in her face. Not that he did much, given the height different between him and Beechfang's tall stature.

Beechfang stared down at the kit, lip curling slightly as he spoke. Just who did he think he was? Taunts about her physical appearance were nothing new... Fought all of Starclan? Maybe... Maybe the kit was a bit closer than he knew. A low snort escaped her, whether it was of disgust or amusement was hard to tell. Roughly (but not too roughly) Beechfang lifted a paw, aiming an almost lazy smack toward the kit's head for his words. Only Newtspring had done the same. Her whiskers twitched as she glanced sidelong at the mottled tom.

"Careful, kit." Came the soft growl in response. He was... One of those kits born into the family with the stupid, petty rivalry with another family. Beechfang had never understood the point and didn't care to. They were all vain and beyond foolish. And she certainly wasn't about to entertain that sort of nonsense directed at herself. "That fluff between your ears will do you no good as an apprentice... If you even make it that far."

She rolled her eye at Newtspring, "We have Skyclan's next great warrior over here." She deadpanned. "I'm sure he wouldn't need a medicine cat with that mouth on him."

Her stare returned to the kit in question, unfriendly and not at all amused by his antics. "You gonna keep running your mouth?"

Mountainkit ducked at the paw swipe but stuck his tounge out at her. "ha no wonder you were a medicine cat, you clearly don't have what it takes to be a warrior." he rebuked back.

he glared at newtspring I dont remember asking you a thing in starclan. If this half face is so tough let her fight her own battles...assuming she can see the enemy... what are you her bodygaurd?


he turned his attention back towards beechface. "You are lucky im still a kit, better watch your back when I become a warrior cause ill be chewing on it." he threatened.

"You'll be lucky if ya make it to bein' an apprentice," Newtspring snorted, rolling his shoulders back as he rose back to height. "I dunno Beech, he sure seems like a scary one. What, with those empty threats 'n' all." The tabby's whiskers twitched as he eyed the kit. That one... would certainly be interesting as he got older.

"Hey, Beech, get this," Newtspring hummed, an idle, unbothered tone to his words. "Maybe–" he reached out a paw, pressing it gently to Mountainkit's side, "you'll be the lucky cat gets to train'em," and gave a little push, rolling the tom-kit into the earth. Newtspring left his large paw there against the kit's ribs, just enough pressure to hold him loosely in place. "An' I'm sure you two'd have a lotta fun sparrin', eh? Bet you'd put big shot in his place right quick. You're pretty fierce out there, ya know." Newtspring yawned, his irritation from moments ago seemingly melting away. "An' hey, when he's an apprentice, if ya accidentally do use claws... well, if I don't see it means it didn't happen." A barking laugh chased the hollow threat. And it really was hollow; obnoxious as the little thing was, Newtspring never would've found it in himself to really hurt a kit. Mouthy apprentices, though... Well, if they were old enough to march to war and hunt down predators, they were old enough to get a swift box to the ears. Claws or not. "You done threatenin' us now? Think ya might wanna play nice with the big cats 'fore I go tattle 'bout you to our big, scary dad?" He hummed, releasing the kit from his soft pin– but not without a little push to his flank to tip him over the other way.

Mountainkit snorted in laughter.  haha you think beeechface can even see, yet alone how to train someone? You know what, I hope she does "train" me, I would probably end up teaching her a thing or two actually  he sneared at beechface,

You should drop the face out your name it would match you better... or maybe just Beechfa ... ya know since half the face is gone

he rolled his eyes at newtspring's soft pin "oh wow look at big strong Newtspring he can pin a kit to the ground.... I bet you feel so powerful right now" he remarked sarcastically.

He sat down on his haunches amused licking his front paws once Newtspring let him go, the rest of Newtspring's words were mostly uninteresting to him and he disregarded them with a flick of his ear.  That is, until the last part.

Hahaha it would be just like you to go cry to your daddy, what's the matter Newtspring? can't handle an energetic little kit on your own need to threaten to tattle to your daddy? he rolled his eyes Pathetic! Truly pathetic! You sure you ain't from Windclan? I hear they have no backbones either.

Mountainkit's words reminded Beechfang of a different tom that had spouted the same venom, and she fought to keep her fur from bristling. He's not Dawnhawk, he's just a stupid kit, she told herself.

A soft huff escaped her as Newtspring pinned the kit and spoke. "You're right... Maybe he won't make it to apprentice. Though I suppose I could take pity on him, since nobody else will want to mentor him." She shrugged, "...Did Bloodstar ever tell you about that dog we killed in twolegplace, Newt? Stars-cursed beast was huge, bigger than any fox or badger you've ever seen. Had to be four, maybe five times our size easily, and it's not like dad and I are small cats. Broke Wolfstar's ribs with one bite, though he was still Wolfcall back then and dad was just a young warrior. My littermate and I had barely been apprentices for a moon at the time and we and our parents all came out of the fight completely unscathed." There was nothing in her tone to suggest she was bragging or making things up. And why would she? Bloodstar and Smokefeather had been there too. Of course, if it happened to scare the aggravating kit... That was a bonus, wasn't it? "Haven't had a fight like that in seasons, actually... I wonder if there's other dogs that big still around twolegplace... Could take dad and a few untrained 'paws, see how we do?" She spoke as if the kit wasn't even there, though she was aware of him yammering on still. His words made her claws itch... But maybe ignoring the urge to smack him upside the head was for the best. She couldn't imagine Bloodstar or Ashstorm would be pleased if she bloodied a kit... As tempting as it was.
