"I see. Disappointed, but understanding I'm sure. It is an oath we all take when we become medicine cats, but I think all of us know how difficult an oath it can be to keep. Especially if it wasn't one you were expecting to take." She mewed, chuckling at Beechface's sigh. "You two do look very similar. I'm surprised there hasn't been more suspicion."
"I agree. Not just for their sakes, but for yours as well. It's a burden you've had to silently bear for so long after all. Wrenspring too. I'm glad to hear that, although I'm sorry that you're in this situation currently. I don't envy you." She mewed softly, looking over to the tom once more. Silence stretched between them for a few heartbeats before she sighed and turned back to Beechface. "I wish I could do more to help. I wish I could step in and make him better, or ease your burden. I'm sorry I can't. But I can be here for you, and offer my support to you... Both of you. I have to get back to camp before nightfall, but if you ever need me, you know where to find me."

"I thought it was pointless to begin with. Leaders and deputies have mates and kits, what's the difference with a medicine cat?" Her whiskers twitched, "Yeah... I am surprised nobody else has mentioned it." Beechface admitted tiredly. She had to wonder who had suspected and simply kept it to themselves, and who legitimately hadn't known. She couldn't ponder that for long, Mossbloom's voice quickly drawing her attention back to the present. Her words didn't exactly make Beechface feel better about the situation, but she was grateful to know that her mentor cared more than most. There was a part of her who didn't want to be left alone in the den with just the wounded and unconscious for company, but Mossbloom was right. She did need to get back to her territory before nightfall.
"Thank you, Mossbloom. For everything." She mewed quietly. Beechface briefly pressed against her friend gratefully, grimly determined to ignore the pain for a moment. "Ask for one of our warriors to escort you to the border, at least? I would if I could."

Mossbloom nodded, shrugging her graying shoulders. "They say it's so we don't get distracted when healing... But yet they call us to treat every cat in the forest as our patient, and as family. It... Doesn't make sense, truly. But then again, not everything does make sense. Life would be awfully predictable otherwise." She mewed, her voice a little sharper than she thought as she recalled her own crushes over her moons as a medicine cat. What would have happened had she acted on any of them?...
"Of course, Beechface. I'm happy to help. I will always consider you my apprentice, and will be available to aid you as much as possible. I wish I could stay... But Dustcloud and Ferretnose get upset if I'm not in our nest at nightfall. I'll try to visit again soon though, okay?" She purred, pressing against Beechface in return. "I will definitely do that. The guide would be very helpful, the fallen trees are difficult for these old bones to navigate." She purred, pressing her nose to the medicine cat's shoulder a final time before turning to leave the medicine den. "Take care, Beechface. I'll see you next time." She mewed, waving her tail in a final farewell before disappearing from view in search of a warrior to guide her to the border of ThunderClan.
