Henkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Walking was possible, but it wasn't easy. Dayspring knew that she had to move around on her other three paws as much as she could in order to stay healthy while her front leg continued the healing process. On the bright side, being outside in the midst of the warm weather was far more relaxing than being in the medicine den. She would be resuming her ceremony duties today, but due to the fact that she couldn't exactly leap onto the Tallrock, she decided to remain on the ground and call the meeting from there.
"May all cats old enough to run the moor gather beneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!" She called out as she glanced around the camp.

Henkit had been hovering near the Tallrock from the moment she saw Dayspring glance at it. It had to be her apprentice ceremony. It had to be. She loved her siblings with a fierce, protective love, but none of them were really true warrior material. It was only logical that her apprentice ceremony be before theirs. She was going to soar through apprenticeship and become the best warrior in a matter of moons.

Henkit frowned slightly as Dayspring sat in front of the Tallrock instead of on it. Yes, the deputy’s leg looked painful, but surely it couldn’t hurt too much to clamber up the rock. Henkit had done it, once, when no one was looking- if a kit could do it, surely the deputy could, even with a broken leg.

She hurried over to sit near the Tallrock at Dayspring’s call, confident she was old enough to run the moor. Fawnstep had to be watching. She would make him proud, make all of WindClan proud. Holding her head high, the first sliver of doubt came into her mind.

Who am I going to get as mentor?

Dayspring was pleased to see that Henkit was quick to arrive at the scene, and she began the ceremony without any delays.
"Henkit, please step forward."

She gave the kit a couple of heartbeats to do so.
"Henkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Henpaw. Your mentor will be Hayglow."
She concluded the ceremony with a flick of her tail and a calm smile and gave the new apprentice time to speak with her new mentor.

Henkit took a step forwards, head high. Of course this was her apprentice ceremony. She puffed out her little chest and waited for Dayspring’s next words. Hayglow? Did she know a Hayglow? Yes, yes she did- she ran up to her new mentor and touched noses with a proud expression.

“I’ll be the best apprentice you’ve ever had!” she promised, green eyes full of excitement. The calico’s tail swished excitedly behind her as she straightened up, paws firmly on the ground. “When do we start training?” She’d be the best apprentice the Clan had had since her father. Nothing was going to get in her way.

Hayglow blinked at her name was called, ears perking in surprise as she watched Henpaw came racing towards her. There was a brief moment of hesitation about the idea of getting one of Fawnstep's kits as an apprentice - she had respected the tom once but... She had heard about how he had scolded their son for not fighting. But then she thought about how the litter had recently lost their mother - of how Tawnyflare had simply left the camp after the battle and had yet to return, and as the sunrises carried on...It was growing more and more likely that she would never return. ...Perhaps she could be a good role model for the kits - or for at least Henpaw so she gave the new apprentice a small smile and leaned forward to touch noses. "I'm sure you will," she purred softly. "And we will start tomorrow - for now, take the rest of the day to find your own nest and get to know the other apprentices."
