Subject: Moon Fight [Open] Sun 11 Jul 2021 - 16:55
It had all started from watching Murkystrike take the apprentices out. Whatever sickness had plagued the leader had left him and he was starting to feel...Restless. And perhaps, a bit guilty. He had always made pledges to be more active with his Clan but things always seemed to stop him. So, this time, he had put out an idea - mass training session for the warriors. It had been a spur of a moment thing, but it felt needed. Other than for fighting with predators and rarely another cat at the border, keeping ones fighting skill sharp tended to fall to the wayside. This would be a chance to make sure his warriors could hold their own but also learn from each other... He just had to hope cats showed up.
Honestly, he wasn't expecting it - he had never done anything like this before and hadn't put that much thought into it past the location being the Pine Grove due to being the best mostly dry piece of land in their territory that could hold a mass training session. But yet, he could see the shape of cats started to trek in and he straightened up. His eyes started to scan the cats who were arriving, already working on pairing them up as they started to gather and mingle.
He had never been the most social cat in the forest, really. Somedays he hated his own camp for all its bustle and noise. But, when Flintstar proposed a sparring session for the warriors, Webshadow was eager to join. Maybe it was just the thrill of his new place in the camp, or maybe he just wanted to prove to his Clan he could fight, even in a controlled space.
Either way, when the night came, he made the trek out to the Pine Grove, a tail-length or so away from the others. Flintstar had beat them all there, quiet as ever. Webshadow dipped his head in greeting, similarly silent, before settling down off to the side.
He always did this. So of course, when she saw Webshadow once again going off on his own, she followed him. This was a social event, too, not just for sparring, and stars forbid she let Webshadow get away with only fighting.
"So, you going to show every cat how well I taught you, then? I look forward to seeing how well you do tonight! Maybe you'll even beat me!" She gave the young tom a wink, settling down beside him as she waited for Flintstar to begin the event. This was going to be quite the ride.
Murkystrike made her way into the clearing, seeming slightly off balance. With each sunset she woke and swore she was rounder. She had grumbled as she got out of the nest she shared with Mistyfalcon. Flintstar had announced a clan-wide spar between interested warriors, and she had jumped at the thought of joining in... But as she sat near Rosethorn and Flintstar, she could already hear Mistyfalcon's voice telling her absolutely not. Still though.... She did owe him another spar. She glanced over at Flintstar, a small grin on her face. "So, Flintstar... If there's an uneven number of cats, I will happily volunteer to step in. I do ask to be paired with Mistyfalcon though... I have to prove I can still beat him after all." She purred, glancing around to see if her mate had overheard her.
Mistyfalcon followed the other warriors to the meeting place Flintstar had designated. Normally he'd be content to go off hunting on his own, but Flintstar calling the warriors together was a rarity and he had to admit, he was curious to see how this would go down. Murkystrike had joined in as well, evidently her grumbling as they'd gotten up for the evening wasn't too serious. He understood wanting to keep up with her duties, but she could have taken a break and nobody would have minded.
"Don't encourage her." Mistyfalcon grumbled, padding over to where Flintstar and Murkystrike were sitting. He had indeed heard his mate, was not thrilled, and the look he was currently giving her was akin to the look he'd give a particularly snarky apprentice. She had a stubborn look about her and Mistyfalcon had the feeling he was going to regret what he was about to say.
"You know what, fine. If you insist on sparring, it might as well be with me." That way he could make sure she wasn't overextending herself. His lips did quirk into a hint of a smirk, though. Maybe she'd learn her lesson when she was planted in the dirt. He still had a score to settle with her.
"To be fair, we did talk about a rematch all those moons ago." Batglow said as he padded up to the duo he was known for hanging out with. While he was here to mostly work on his abilities and to improve as a warrior, he also wanted to see the outcome of that spar. Would Murkystrike manage to beat him this time? Or would Mistyfalcon come on top. He had to know. Of course Murkystrike happened to have an adavtange.
Yellow green eyes looked around at the others, Webshadow, Rosethorn, and of course Flintstar. That was six if their leader counted. So would it be even then? Hopefully he didn't get paired with Flintstar in that case.
The rest of his clanmates were already chattering away about who was going to spar who. Fangsnap was simply here to sharpen his claws, not engage in the latest gossip, or indulge in pleasantries. He ended up not far off from Webshadow and Rosethorn. His dark gaze raked the crowd and settled on Flintstar, waiting for direction from the leader. It occurred to him that perhaps a battle with the massive charcoal tom would be interesting - if Shadowclan's leader was up for such a thing. The wounded shoulder would be a problem but he was not about to let it inhibit him. His tail flickered as he settled back onto his haunches, a neutral expression across his features. At least this would allow him the chance to see how Webshadow's fighting skills had increased, and if he had perhaps found a bit of thought behind his claws.
Flintstar glanced up as Murkystrike approached, blinking as she expressed her desire to fight Mistyfalcon if there was an uneven number of cats. He gave a small nod of his head, trusting in her belief that she could handle sparring even while expecting and watched as a few more cats filtered in. There wasn't a ton, six total but it was at least a start. Perhaps he would do this more often, keeping an eye on his warriors' fighting skills. He pushed himself to his paws, stepping forward as he scanned each of the cats who had arrived. "I thank you all for coming. You all know why I've called you here - I believe it will benefit the entire Clan if we set up sparring sessions, to keep everybody's skill sharp and see what we can learn from each other. With any luck, this will be only the first of many sessions," he meowed, straightening up as he gave a nod of his head
"This will be one on one spars, no claws, no drawn blood. Fight until one concedes. I will be watching, studying and seeing where we can improve." He turned, gaze falling onto his deputy and her mate. "As we have six cats - Murkystrike, I will honor your request. You will be sparring Mistyfalcon." He glanced over at where Webshadow and Rosethorn were resting. "Webshadow, Rosethorn - you are also paired up. And that leaves Batglow to spar with Fangsnap. You may all begin when you are ready." The leader set forward, prowling around as he waited for his Clanmates to pair off and start the sparring - ready to see where he could help his Clanmates improve in their fighting.
Webshadow startled as Rosethorn approached, flicking an ear to turn towards her. He hadn't even heard her approach... but seeing it was just her, he offered a faint smile and a nod. "I'm sure I can. I hope we get paired together," He mewed warmly, turning his attention back towards Flintstar. It was hard to see Rosethorn as anything other than his mentor, even though they were equals now. As much as he wanted to prove to her that she had done a good job training him, he hoped he would get paired with Fangsnap– he needed to show the older warrior he was capable.
Soon enough, more warriors were joining them, and their leader was getting to his paws. He laid out the rules for them, and then went to assignments– and, sure enough, Rosethorn was going to be his sparring partner. Giving her another grin, he stood up and took a few steps away, looking her over. Now that it was time for the fighting to start, he really... didn't know how to start. Just go at it, right? It wasn't like he'd been doing anything wrong.
He tried to recall what he'd been taught, what he'd seen the older cats do, but nothing felt right. Even so, an idea came to mind soon enough and, sauntering forward to close the gap between them, Webshadow rose onto his hind legs and swung gracelessly at Rosethorn, battering her ears with soft paws before coming back to the ground. "Sorry. Did that hurt?" He whispered when he was back at eye level with her.
Webshadow used Rear-Up to Tackle on Rosethorn, dealing 9 play damage and costing 15 SP. Webshadow 40/40 | 105/120
Rosethorn 26/35 | 90/90

So it seemed she was going to be able to assess her apprentice after all, as he was now her sparring partner. She returned his grin with a toothy one of her own, watching as he backed away. She was going to allow him to make the first move, and braced herself as he looked her up and down. Although, he sure did take his time before clumsily battering her ears. She couldn't help but chuckle as he asked if he hurt her. "Don't worry about hurting me. Think of this just as training, and give it your all. Don't you dare hold back on me!"
With that being said, the she-cat moved to bring herself on top of the former apprentice, holding him to the ground. "I can guarantee you that I won't be holding back, so you might want to try a little bit harder to bring me down. Or you can give in now, I won't complain over an easy win!" Rosethorn gave a wink, taunting Webshadow as she towered over him.
Rosethorn used Leap-And-Hold, dealing 8 damage and costing 10 stamina. Webshadow is pinned for 2 turns!
Rosethorn 26/35 HP HP 80/90 SP (-10)
Webshadow (Pinned) 32/40 HP (-8) 105/120 SP
OOC: Remember that because of her asthma, Rosethorn has disabled stats!
Murkystrike grinned as Mistyfalcon approached, nudging his shoulder gently with her head as he settled next to her. After a couple more warriors arrived, Flintstar got everyone's attention and assigned each cat their partner for the spar. She blinked as she was paired with Mistyfalcon - she hadn't fully expected to participate, but as she glanced around she realized that with her participating there was an even number of combatants. Pulling away from her mate as she stepped away, she turned to face him and lowered into a rather odd battle stance. Her belly put her off balance, but she was determined to be victorious. Once Mistyfalcon got into position, she lurched forward, noticing and grimacing at her slowness compared to usual. Still, she pushed on, leaping to land atop her mate and allowing her weight to bring them both crashing towards the ground. As they landed, she leaned to be close to his cheek to whisper to him. "I'll let you know if I need to stand down, so please don't go easy on me. I love you."
Murkystrike used Leap and Hold on Mistyfalcon, dealing 10 (+1 Night Finesse) damage and costing 15 SP. Mistyfalcon is pinned for 2 turns.
Mistyfalcon eyed the other warriors as they arrived, though his gaze flicked to Flintstar as he set the sparring matches for the day. He was mildly surprised that he was allowing Murkystrike to participate, but of course, the fluffy mousebrain wouldn't pas up an opportunity like that.
"Of course you do." He snarked back in response to Murkystrike.
Murkystrike leapt for him, and Mistyfalcon fought to keep his whiskers from twitching with amusement as she clearly noticed her body had changed and her balance was different. As he was brought to the ground by her weight, Mistyfalcon attempted to roll and hopefully break her grip, all the while remaining cautious of his own movements. Murkystrike wasn't fragile, but he wasn't about to risk hurting her either.
He didn't quite manage to escape her grip, but that was fine. She'd learn her lesson once he was free, he was sure of it.
Mistyfalcon used Duck and Twist for -5 sp, dealing -3 damage. Escape was unsuccessful! Night Finesse active, +1 damage.
