Rainy day (closed for Rainypaw)

Stars, was she nervous. Nervous, because now she had an apprentice that she was responsible for, and if she did one thing wrong while training Rainypaw, the clan would hate her and deem her useless, and throw her out, and- A soft sigh escaped her as she tried to get a grip on herself. She got up from her nest, and padded over to the apprentice's den, before stopping at the entrance. Should she wait till later to wake Rainypaw up? The apprentice did seem like she was okay with waking up early yesterday. But that was yesterday! Her opinion could've changed! But then again if it didn't, then she would seem like a bad mentor, and everyone would make fun of her for it-

O-ok. I'm wasting time! Just go in there Herbo Delil- Quietpa- Quietst- forget it, just g-go in there! She thought to herself, forcing herself in. It was rather strange, being back in a den she lived in, but she'd have to get used to it. Somehow. She carefully treaded towards Rainypaw, and nudged her awake. "W-wake up. I-Its t-time to t-train." She stuttered out, her voice soft and quiet. She then carefully stepped back outside as she waited for Rainypaw. What if Rainypaw stayed in the den though? What if Rainypaw fell back asleep? What if she didn't wake Rainypaw up at all?! Oh stars.

Rainypaw fluttered her eyes open at a faint call of her name and for a moment there, she felt a tad of confusion at her new surroundings. That didn't last long as her groggy mind finally caught up with her and she remembered that she had become an apprentice just the day prior and that this was her nest in the apprentice's den. The lithe she-cat murmured an 'okay' to the voice's owner- which she deducted to be her mentor -and promptly made haste with getting up and following Quietstep.

She was still a bit tired but awakened herself further as she walked. "Quietstep? What are we going to be doing today?" she inquired with a tiny tilt of her head. She could tell her mentor was rather nervous but chose not to voice her thoughts. She didn't want to embarrass the she-cat further. She assumed that she was worrying about her abilities to train her first apprentice, at least, Rainypaw believed that she was her first apprentice. She wasn't completely sure but she'll probably figure it out soon enough. For now, she harnessed her boundless patience as she awaited a response from Quietstep.

She found herself letting a sigh of relief when Rainypaw entered her gaze. Thank the stars none of her worried thoughts came true. She quickly became anxious again though, as Rainypaw asked what they were doing today. What were they doing today? Was she supposed to plan this out beforehand? Quick, think of something! Before she thinks that your incompantant! She told herself silently. "U-Um I was t-thinking w-we go to uhhh the M-Moonlit Creek! Y-yea, the moonlit c-creek." She quickly mewed.

It appeared that her mentor hadn't really planned ahead of time for her training. Rainy wasn't going to say anything but kept eyeing her expectantly yet with a softer edge. She felt a bit bad for Quietstep so she was going to be as good of a pupil as she could be, at least, in her presence. She couldn't totally promise since life worked in unexpected ways and anything could happen at any time.

A miniscule smile appeared on her face as her mentor managed to come up with something for them to do. "Moonlit Creek? Sounds good. What'll we be doing there?" she inquired as she gently nudged her mentor toward the clan entrance. They couldn't be standing there for too long or they'll never get things done. Quietstep could explain on their way there.

At Rainypaw's nudge, she immeaditly walked out of camp. "H-hunting is good t-there I believe. I can t-teach you." She nervously mewed. She felt bad that Rainypaw had to endure her terrible mentoring, even if the young she-cat seemed incredibly patient. She wouldn't blame her, if Rainypaw wanted a new mentor.

The she-cat offered a patient smile. "Alright. Hunting sounds like fun. I'm sure you'll teach me well." she meowed reassuringly as they moved along to their destination. Her blue eyes flicked with interest around their surroundings, taking in all the new sights as well as the sounds and smells. She needed to catalogue as much as she could to better learn her territory for the next instances she'd be going out.

After a little while of walking, the apprentices decided to break the somewhat comfortable silence. "Quietstep? Are you worried about how my training's going to go? You shouldn't be. I'm certainly fine with having you as a mentor. You should have more faith in your abilities. You became a warrior for a reason. I'm sure Wolfstar wouldn't of given you your warrior name if you hadn't been ready." Her tone wasn't condescending but encouraging. She was aware that it will take longer for the she-cat to come out of her shell but hopefully with some more work and uplifting comments, she'll get there eventually.

Quiet was caught off guard by the apprentice's words, that broke the silence between them. They were so encouraging, and wise for someone so young. "Y-you should be the m-mentor." She then sighed. "Y-Yea, I-I'm a b-bit nervous. I-I'll try to h-have a b-bit more faith." She wasn't going to comment on anything about her warrior name, or being a warrior in general. She felt like she didn't deserve the name 'Quietstep'. It was a nice name, but she still wasn't sure about it. Maybe Quietstep is the more confident her, that she's scared. She still wasn't sure.

She had to train Rainypaw though. Maybe the young apprentice might feel like she earned her warrior name. 'Quietstep' would try to make sure of that.

The moonlit the came into view, as she slowed to a stop. "W-we're here."

The she-cat bowed her head a tiny bit as an indicator that she accepted that answer, for now. Just by glancing at Quietstep, she could practically see the cogs turning in her head. Whatever she was thinking, Rainy could only hope it to be positive.

When her mentor had announced their arrival, the apprentice nodded then took that moment to scour the area with sharp eyes. It was...peaceful. Rather pretty if she was being honest. The creek appeared to be close to drying up but that didn't take away from the overall serenity or beauty. "It's real pretty." she commented after a few seconds of silence. "Since we'll be hunting, you'll be teaching me the hunting crouch correct? I've seen some of the older apprentices practice it on occasion but I've never really tried it myself."

"O-Oh! The h-hunting crouch? Y-Yea, of c-course I'll be teaching y-you!" She said. "Ok, n-now crouch d-down and I-I'll try to c-correct you, if y-you have any mistakes." She was trying to sound confident. She had to sound confident, in order to teach Rainypaw!

"Alright." she replied with a firm nod then proceeded to do just that. Rainypaw dropped down into a crouch, as she'd seen the older apprentices do. However, right of the bat, she was aware that there was some things wrong with her form. For one, she was a teeny bit lopsided. Secondly, her tail was sitting on the ground. That wasn't going to do her any good. It was only going to create unnecessary noise if it dragged. She fixed that issue as soon as she noticed it but the other one...she wasn't too sure how to correct that.

Rainypaw huffed and lifted her gaze at Quietstep. "It needs work doesn't it? I kinda feel a bit off-balance but I just don't know what I'm really supposed to do to fix that..." she grumbled as she wiggled about in an attempt to position herself better.

She silently inspected Rainypaw's form, ears flicking up as the apprentice fixed her tail. Of course there was a bit of lopsidedness, and even Rainypaw noticed it, which was very commendable. "Y-Yea, its does. M-Maybe try p-putting more weight onto y-your other paws. J-Just a s-suggestion."

"Alright. I'll try." she gritted out with an undertone of displeasure at her mistakes as she began to try and evenly distribute her weight among her paws. It took a bit for her to get it looking and feeling...acceptable. She wasn't as steady as she would've liked but still, she gave herself a little bit of a pass. She wasn't in the mood to stay there all day until she got it perfect.

"I think I have it down now. What do you think Quietstep? I know I'm still a little wobbly but I distributed my weight evenly like you said I should." she said to the older she-cat as her gaze flickered upward, eyes searching her mentor's face for approval.

"Y-you did good. Now y-your ready to h-hunt!" She said. "T-try sniffing t-the air for p-prey, and g-g-go s-stalk towards it, a-and leap, and p-pin it down."

Rainypaw's eyes brightened at being told that she did well. Finally! Good progress! The apprentice rose up onto her paws and fully turned to hear her mentor's next instructions. Okay. Sniff the air first. Carefully stalk toward it using the hunting crouch. Lastly, she had to leap and pin it down. Sounded...simple enough but she was aware that there was a chance of her messing it up. She just had to try her hardest for her first catch.

The lithe she-cat wandered off a bit, nose working double time to try and find some prey. The first thing she scented was a bird. She was a bit wary of this prey because she knows that it could easily fly away and out of her reach but she didn't let herself back down. She was determined to troop on. She followed her nose and stopped a few ways away from the feathered creature as soon as it was in her sights. Alright, this was it. She dropped down into the hunting crouch, mindful of her weight distribution and tail placement. She slowly inched closer, blue gaze narrowed in on it. As soon as she was at a leaping distance, she did just that.

Relief washed over her as she felt the creature's warm body firmly in her grasp. Thank the stars for this swift catch! She was quite proud of it. The lithe apprentice picked it up with her maw and hurried back to Quietstep, blue gaze sparkling with triumph. She set down her catch and smiled brightly at her mentor. "I did it Quietstep! Just like you directed me to!"
