| Since Luna is an adult cat, she has a fully fledged backstory. I thought I would write it all down for two reasons. One, I love to write, and it's good practice. Two, I love the backstory I created and wanted to share it with anyone who wants to read it. It will be a pretty long backstory, as I want to cover a good amount of the things that has happened to her over her life. Also, this seems like the best place to post it.
The Beginning Arrival The cries of a she-cat giving birth filled the damp cave, echoing along the dirt walls and out into the open, where it faded quickly into the air. A tom hunted not far away, his teeth clamped around a mouse, placing it with the other two he had found just moments before. Something didn't feel right in the air, and he looked in the direction he was living. The three mice would be enough for him and his mate, he believed. He picked the prey up, with a bit of struggle, and began to head back. As he got close enough to the entrance, he finally heard it. "Tooth!" the she-cat cried out. The tom caught the faint call of his name and knew it was time for the kits to come. He dropped the mice, forgetting about them and rushed to his mates side.
"Marla, I'm here!" He told her, intending to bring comfort. He had no idea what he was supposed to do, but he would at least be here for his mate. He tried his hardest to keep his eyes on her face, but couldn't help but to sneak a glance at the rest of her. He regretted that decision instantly, and lost all the hunger he had felt while hunting.
"A bit late!" Marla snarled at him. Tooth bent down to lick between her ears, trying his best to calm her down, but it didn't matter much now. The last kit was born, and she turned to lick them all. Four in total, three beautiful black and gray kits, and one pure black, just like her mother. She gently moved them all to her so they could drink milk, and she laid her head down. Tooth just waited, knowing better than to interrupt his mate, or he would get her full wrath. Tooth moved to edge of the cave, so as to give Marla time to rest, and started up at the sky. The full moon stared back at him, making him wonder what they would do come leaf-bare.
Winter is Coming The playful mews of the kits echoed in the cave behind Marla and Tooth. They watched the bare branches sway in the wind, and enjoyed the crisp morning air floating around their fur. "What are we going to do?" Marla asked quietly. She knew she didn't have to explain to her mate what she was asking about. With leaf-bare coming, prey would get scarce in the forest. Tooth knew exactly what his mate was talking about, and he wasn't sure if she wanted to know what he honestly thought, but the tom was going to say it anyways.
"There isn't going to be enough food for all of us when leaf-bare comes. The kits won't survive without us, so we can't just give all of the prey to them. Luna... she's the runt of the litter, small and weaker than her brothers. If we give the food to the strongest kits, we can ensure their survival."
Marla was speechless. Having been raised in a twoleg nest, and pampered until she met Tooth, she would never think of doing such a thing. Tooth knew she wouldn't have liked that idea, but he waited for her to speak before he was going to explain himself.
"Never! We will feed all of our kits, even if we spend all of our time hunting. Someone will stay here with them at all times to make sure they stay safe! End of discussion." Marla stood and turned, leaving no time for the tom to speak again. Tooth sighed, and followed her into their home.
First Hunt Luna opened her eyes and lifted her head. She noticed all her brothers were still asleep. She looked over at their mother and saw she was wrapped around them. The night air was extremely cold, but it wasn't something she couldn't handle. She looked over at Tooth, her father, and noticed he was laying across the entrance to the cave. "That might things a little difficult..." Luna whispered, standing slowly, trying not to move her brother Smoke. He was the biggest of the four kits, a pure dark grey, and a pain to move, but he was also the lightest sleeper. She stepped gently over her mothers tail and approached her father as silently as she could. Luna looked around his body, and saw that there was a small space between his head and the wall where she could walk outside.
She slowly, painfully made her way out of the cave and looked out into the forest. Her stomach grumbled, and she sighed. Her parents hadn't been able to bring a lot of prey home for them. Her and her brothers had split one mouse four ways for dinner last night, and it wasn't enough for all four of them. Luna walked further into the forest, listening for a mouse or something to eat. It was hard, there were so many sounds, the wind rustling the last of the leaves on the ground, and the branches of the dead bushes nearby. She strained her ears, trying her best to pick out the sound of prey. After a moment, she heard the small scutterings of a mouse. She had watched her mother hunt before, so she tried her best to repeat what Marla had done.
She crouched low to the ground, facing in the direction of the mouse, and readied her self. She pounced, sending a leaf into the air behind her. She felt joy at the small feeling of flight before she hit the ground with a thud. She watched as the small mouse scampered away into the darkness. She hadn't even come close to catching the mouse, she had fallen short. Luna sighed and laid there, watching the wind move the leaves on the forest floor. She had been there for a minute before she heard the sound of crunching leaves behind her and felt something loom over her. |
