Strangers - clan cats - stormed the clearing with a battle cry, and everything seemed to happen all at once after that. Thorn cages opened, prisoners freed; fights broke out. Running right before them to attack Eris was the strange ThunderClan cat who had started all of this - if she'd never met him that day, would she ever know the truth at all?

She realized, quite suddenly, that she wasn't moving. She should fix that, shouldn't she? Fight the invaders, or fight alongside them - there was a choice to be made.

(But when she already knew she couldn't trust most of the cats around her, was it any choice at all?)

Thalia stood tall and proud, letting her pelt fall down to rest against her shoulders. For the first time when presented with such very real and very imminent danger, she felt the confidence she’d always tried to fake (or maybe it was just the adrenaline rush, but the effect was still the same). In the end, it had come to this: tonight, it was do or die - and she thought that they’d seen more than enough death. But her former denmates, the cats that stood alongside her... What would they choose?

She knew what she was willing to take. What she was willing to stand for. But was she willing to stand against them; who shared a history so secret they hadn't known it? Who were her family in every sense but blood? She wasn't sure she could take it, if it was what they asked of her.

There was only one thing to do.

“Listen, friends - no, family. The life we wanted, the life we were promised? We’ll never have that. All we’ve ever known was built on lies and half-truths. This isn’t a sanctuary, it’s a prison - and don’t you see, we were just as trapped as they are, so much so that we didn’t even know it! But we don’t have to be.” Here she paused for a split second, just long enough to catch her breath. There wasn't time to waste, she only had one chance to speak; she knew she had to make every word count. “I loved everything I thought we were, everything I thought we stood for... And I still do. I love the dream. But I've finally woken up from it! I still love the cats that have given me so much, but... This war was never going to bring peace. I’ve made my choice, I know what I’m willing to stand for. Do you?”

Zinnia darted forward with the signal, setting about freeing cats from their prisons - more of the Asylum's pointless savagery, she noted, as a few thorns stuck to her fur. With that part of her duty fulfilled, she looked to the fray; wondering where her talents would be best served. Roe had been right - these prisoners were clearly in no shape to defend themselves, though she suspected they might try anyway.

(Warriors were not known for a lack of tenacity.)

She spotted a familiar face among the Asylum cats, though - one that caught her attention in a way that was far more personal than anything else. Theron, the leader of the Nightstrikers. Commander of the cats who had terrorized WindClan since before she came to the forest territories. Poetic justice, in a sense, that she should be the one to face her.

"You. I believe we have a score to settle."

It was time.

Moons of planning had come to this. Shrikesong couldn't wait for the day when she could tear the Asylum down to the ground. She did everything that she possibly could to undermine Asylum, from joining the Mousehunt to trying to misdirect Eris with false information about the rebellion. If there was a way for the she-cat to harm Asylum's functioning, she would be a part of it. After all, she despised the Asylum to the core.

The brown she-cat changed so much from before the Asylum. From the naive she-cat who tried seeing the best in everyone to the scarred cat with a growing hatred for the Asylum. Really, it almost made her go mad with rage. But she hid it, underneath a determined mask with a piercing amber glare.

She gazed at Fourtrees and the cats on it, their pelted frames crowding the sacred meeting place of old. They will pay, she thought venomously. Once Beecloud gives the word, I'll fight them to the end. Sure enough, Beecloud spoke, and Shrikesong immediately dashed towards the jailed cats. Slashing the thorny bushes out, she freed the cat that was residing in it.

She then turned to one of the Asylum cats: a tom with a one-eared fox for a pelt. Swiping at his face with her front paws, the brown she-cat realized who it was. Dawnhawk. It wasn't that long ago when they seemed to be good friends, but it was obvious that he was supporting the Asylum now. And him supporting the Asylum made him her enemy. "Dawnhawk! It's so good to see you! It's too bad that we couldn't have met in better terms, don't you think?" Her voice had significantly more venom than anybody had ever seen in her, since she hid her hatred of Asylum to the entire group until now.

The stiff night air split suddenly under the force of a great howl, rapidly mounting tension abruptly cleaved in two as though lightning had cleanly spliced through the somber haunting grounds of Asylum, blood-chilling and bone-shaking in both intensity and for all it signaled. The heavy shadows fringing the wilted clearing, verging upon directly across from Jayshriek, trembled and warped suddenly- Beecloud exploding forward in a sheen of movement that was shortly enveloped within the ensuing storm of chaos that quickly blossomed across the clearing, movement and noise rippling outwards like an arc of droplets. An unfamiliar emotion creased between the finely-made arch of his deeply furrowed brows, suspended somewhere between the relentless roar of adrenaline-fueled strength and speed and the distaste, his tongue weighing heavily against the narrow confines of his tightly clinched teeth. In the ensuing, infinitesimal heartbeats of stillness, the relentless beat of his heart sounded entirely too loud.  

He had only truly fought once. Against Eris, whom they now sought to tear apart like ravenous crows feeding upon a dying creature left alongside the Thunderpath.

Whatever threads of thought Jayshriek intended to follow were quickly lost, and it was as though his muscles were overtaken by some ghost; practiced and mechanical movements launching him from the limited confines of his pitiful shelter, propelling him forward into the heart into the whirling scene of disarray with little hesitation, little thought for the grizzly fate that certainly awaited. Tearing through the nearest Asylum cage with little refinement, or care for the thorns that tore and grated against the tender flesh of his forepaws and mouth, the dark-furred young Warrior was quick to whirl around and set his gaze upon the first, startlingly familiar pelt within reach. Slim forelimbs wreathing around the molly's nape with a sudden jerk, Jayshriek thrust the Asylum overseer into the earth with a wordless snarl, pale teeth catching sharply against the wan light of the evening.

Roe had remained close to Beecloud, even as the Clan cats had started to separate to surround the clearing. He...He was going to be the one to kill Eris, yes? He...He was going to allow this to happen...Wasn't he? He stepped back as the warrior prepared, trying to figure out what to say - what to do. He wanted to run - turn his back on the cats in the clearing but a select few - the kits he had help raised...They were there, and they didn't deserve to be caught up in this. Finally, a yowl was sprung and Beecloud leapt into the clearing and made his attack on Eris. The Mousehunt, as they were called, followed suit...And so did Roe. He darted across the clearing, springing up towards the great rock that stood - scrambling up its length until he was on top. He opened his mouth, ready to call out but a voice caught his ear - familiar. Thalia. His eyes searched the clearing, locating her as she stood proud as she spoke to her fellow stolen cats. A small smile graced Roe's scarred muzzle, taking in a deep breath as she finished. "Thalia is right! Even I, who was raised by Asylum for countless moons, now see the truth in their actions - and that is there is none. Everything we told you, every action we swore was for the glory of Asylum was a lie! We build ourselves up on the suffering of others when we swear we only want to help. But that simple idea - helping others, does not need to be a lie no longer. Stand with the Clans tonight and we will find a new way to live - not bound by Captains and Fractions, but as true equals."

Hayglow winced as the signal was given, darting from her hiding place and into the prisoner area. "I'm here to free you!" She whispered as she clawed at their binds, freeing each cat with WindClan speeds. "Get to safety or fight if you can! T-This is ending tonight! Beecloud will see us through," she whispered, half to herself in hopes that she would believe it. She came to a stop as she saw her Clanmates, Fawnstep and Deerhawk. Her heart sunk at the sight of them in such a terrible condition, reaching forward to help break them free before a yowl caught her ear - one that was getting closer at a worrying pace.

Everything seemed to happen at once - a single cat broke into view and it was nearly laughable...Until he called for more and other cats jumped from the undergrowth. Lexine took a step back in surprise, baring her teeth as she recognized a pelt that leapt at Theron. It was one of the cats who had been there when her brother was killed, the cowards. With a snarl, she took a step forward to join in before something clicked in her head. ...She didn't have to make do with her. Her eyes fell onto where the prisoners were being kept, seeing a familiar pelt - she and Alois had captured her at the start of this entire thing, hadn't they? - freeing the held cats. But...Lexine didn't care for them - no, she only cared for one. Her eyes fell onto a brown and white form and with a bloodthirsty yowl, sprinting to end the tom's life and get her revenge. She crossed the clearing in a heartbeat - raising a claw as she swiped toward the tom's head...Only for her claws to meet yellow fur as she pulled back in surprise.

Hayglow wasn't sure why she had done it. She barely had time to register that she had thrown herself in front of Fawnstep before she was thrown to the side by a large paw, even as Lexine drew back. She rolled to a stop, dazed as she raised her head with a shake, a groan. Then, her ears perked at the sound of pawsteps as she looked up just in time to see Lexine bare down on her. Her eyes widen as she tried to roll away but she couldn't, heavy paws slamming into her shoulders as the she-cat grinned at her.

"Y'know, I was going for that scrawny tom...But you will do for now. My plan was to get rid of all of WindClan, no reason not to start with you first."

Hayglow's eyes widen as she rolled, barely able to align herself on her back so she could bunny-kick at the larger she-cat's stomach. But...Nothing. It wasn't even like Lexine could feel it. She swallowed, closed her eyes...And instead raked her claws across the Nightstriker's belly. That earned her a painful yowl in response and she had to bite her tongue to stop herself from throwing out apologies - wishing she didn't have to fight. She didn't want to fight.

Theron blinked as a lone tom came rushing in. She titled her head, confused...Before he called out to a... 'Mousehunt' and suddenly more cats came rushing into the clearing. Theron took a step back with a surprise snarl as the tom threw himself at Eris. Her claws dug into the ground, ready to leap to her Head's aid only for another cat to throw herself at her. She stumbled back as a she-cat made herself known, blinking at the mention of a score. A quick taste told her that she was of WindClan but...Hm. "...Do I even know you?" she questioned, her voice a smooth purr. "Because I don't think we ever actually crossed path so I don't know what you think you have to settle with me..." There was a pause. "...Unless you meant the murder of your Clanmates? My, you WindClan cats must really learn a new tune sooner or later." As she spoke, something caught her eye. A familiar pelt. "...Roe?" Her eyes darted toward it but...Blah, she didn't have time to worry about him. She had another WindClan cat to put in their place. She reared backwards, slicing at Zinnia with all of her force before she heard voices - Roe. ...What was he saying? With a soft growl, she shook her head. No, she couldn't let herself get distracted.

His head pounded. Noise, noise, and more noise! The faintest of snarls stretched across his face, baring his old, yellowed teeth at the pain. He could hardly figure out what was happening besides how the Asylum cats were suddenly thrown into chaos. The cage lifted and for a brief moment he saw Hayglow before she became tangled in battle with Lexine. 'May StarClan give you strength.' Ah, that was right, he could get up. He rose to uneasy and tender paws, feeling light-headed. What was this? All sorts of clan cats - at least that's what they probably were, as they weren't wearing any pelts - attacking the Asylum guards. One huge tomcat even attacked Eris. Well, regardless of his current state, they certainly needed all the claws they could get if they wanted out of here alive. Head still spinning, he found himself at a straight-shot towards the she-cat who'd brought them their scraps. He took his opportunity and blindsided her.

Deerhawk used Run-and-Tackle on Rama! He dealt 9+3 damage and used 10 stamina. +3 damage for a surprise attack.

Someone else was somehow even more confused. One moment Brick was having a mini reunion with some of her kithood friends, and the next moment a bunch of Clan cats came rushing through, and Thalia was saying something about what was true and what wasn't, and then everyone started fighting. She stumbled back, ducking and flinching away from pairs of yowling cats until something spiky hit her hind paws. With a yipe of surprise she whipped around to see a woven cage and an all-too-familiar cat inside. "Raisha!?" She practically head-butted the cage until her sister was free. She knew she'd been taken away, but she never thought it'd be to a place like this. Did that mean...?

She turned her head, and indeed, inside every one of the strange objects were cats. Emaciated, dull-eyed, and sometimes actually, probably dead, cats. True fear fell into her gut and she brushed against Raisha. She was lucky to be alive. But then she stepped back a bit. Ew. "You smell like... really, really bad."

Dawnhawk heard an unfamiliar voice boom out across the clearing. He spun, registered the words, and his fur bristled in fury. He knew something had been amiss. A deep growl tore from his throat right before Shrikesong appeared. Memories that seemed to be a lifetime away came back to him, faintly. Oh right... this was that Thunderclan girl that he'd toyed with. Her heartstrings at least. Her claws swiped toward his face, and in typical Dawnhawk fashion he turned away to protect it and sacrificed his shoulder instead. Blood welled up from the wound, staining his ivory fur red.

"You are a fool to play this game with me, Sweetheart." Dawnhawk kicked off of the ground and aimed to throw his weight and strength into a precise, powerful strike. The combined training of Asylum and Skyclan... these clan cats weren't prepared for it.

It was all happening so fast. There was a cry, and all of a sudden she could hear the sounds of battle. And in yet another moment her cage was open, and Brick was by her side.  She had always been by her side, no matter how stupid Raisha was, and she had pushed her away. Never again would she make that mistake. She could have buried herself in her sister's fur in that moment, but Brick had pulled away, and what she said brought a long forgotten laugh out of her.

"Ha ha, ya I guess I do stink. And look at all those thorns in your pelt, now! Am I a skunk and you a hedgehog?" With yet another chuckle, she flicked off one of the thorns that had attached itself to Brick. She must have really gone at her cage to set Raisha free, and the flower of love she had for her sister bloomed even larger than before.

But of course, this could not last. Not right now. Not here. "Listen, Brick, I need you to get out of here. Please. Run as far as you can, and don't look back. The Asylum can't be our home anymore. And it is time I made things right."

Without waiting for a response, Raisha had darted off. She had a score to settle with her captor.

Spotting the scout captain, she rammed head first into her. There was no way Brick would approve of this, but it needed to be done. "You thought you and Eris could decide what was best for me. You stole me from my home and used me as a weapon, and you called it love. You never cared about me, about any of us kits. You know what? I think I finally found a battle worth fighting."

Zinnia hissed as the Nightstriker captain struck back. She'd known they would be strong, but she hadn't expected quite so much power behind a single blow.

"It was the arrival of the Nightstrikers that brought me to WindClan," she replied, calm and collected in the face of danger; pushing aside the raging fire of fury she could still feel. Seasons past, now, how long had it really been since this place became her home? "Aiding them against what we thought were particularly vicious foxes. I don't expect you to know my name, Theron of the Nightstrikers... Not yet, at least. It's Zinnia, though that matters not to you."

The cell she'd been held captive in opened at last, and Batbite stumbled out, blinking rapidly to better see what surrounded her - a fight had broken out across the encampment. Well, isn't that just wonderful? she thought to herself, looking around to see if she could spot her mate. She wasn't happy about charging into this fight alone, she did possess at least a drop of common sense - but she also knew that she couldn't refuse to act.

"Some-" Oh, stars, her voice sounded awful. When was the last time she'd spoken more than a desperate whisper? "Some assistance would be much appreciated!"

Flashlight's introspection was interrupted, and she was about to snap something rather rude when she realized the entrance to her cell was open. She might have been in poor shape, but if she didn't at least try to fight, was she any warrior at all? It seemed, too, that she wasn't the only one to think so - fights had broken out across the area. Including, seemingly, some of the Asylum cats rebelling against their own. She leapt into the fray in silence, with an ice-cold fury coursing through her veins.

Roe's words - Roe! So he was alive, if not well, and he was here and - and she was right, that they'd been lied to and it wasn't fair. That was no way to live, this was never going to end well... But the cats she'd aligned herself with still weren't acting - except Brick, who'd dashed off to free... Raisha? So Raisha was here too, she'd been here...

Thalia didn't want to fight, not when she could see in her mind how it would end - blood, always blood, too much of it, because she'd never learned anything else. But there was no escaping it tonight. Blood would be spilled one way or the other, but if they fought back... It could end here, at least. "A little help, anyone?"

Toad had been standing in the clearing without much direction for the past while, wanting to help but not knowing where to start. The others just seemed to be dealing with it on their own, they were much more experienced than him after all. His dilemma was solved by a black she-cat tackling him, he recognised her as one of the prisoners. 'For Asylum', he thought as he unsheathed his claws and reared up, slashing at her face with a flurry of blows.

Wisteriabloom lay in wait with the rest of the Mousehunt, trying to spot any familiar pelts in the shadows and anxiously awaiting Beecloud's battle cry. The second she heard the tom make a sound, she spurred into action, dashing for the prisoners. No doubt they would be weak, especially the ones who had been here a while, and probably wouldn't be able to take on as difficult a fight as usual. Almost as if she had read her mind, the croaky mew of a Thunderclan she-cat caught her attention. She wordlessly leap at the Asylum tom, hopefully catching him by surprise and slipped underneath him.

"I got your back." She said to the other warrior as she raked at his soft underbelly. It felt almost strange to properly fight another cat after so many staged battles, but after all, this is what it had all been leading up to.

Eos' hackles lifted at the voice, and then chaos broke loose in their carefully-guarded base. Not carefully guarded enough, it would seem. She twisted as she felt claws sink into her fur, falling beneath the weight of another cat. She looked up into the eyes of a Riverclanner, one of the cats she'd watched over for moons now. She hissed at him, normally soft gaze hardening. She was sad it had come to this, but she would do what needed to be done. For Asylum.

Mistyfalcon's dark gaze swept over the clearing, searching desperately for a sign of his missing clanmates within the despair-laden pit that was fourtrees. As Beecloud's voice rang out, the Shadowclanner hung back, gaze sweeping over the crowd. This battle was not something he wanted to rush into. As much as he wanted to feel the rip and tear of fur beneath his claws, he needed to keep a clear head. If Murkystrike and Crowcall were down there, if Emberkit and the others were down there, he could not rush in blindly.

He weaved through the shadows in silence, deftly dodging the writhing bodies of Asylum and Clan cats as he moved, having spotted a familiar pelt within the thorny confines. Murkystrike. The dark tom sprang forward, heart in his throat. She had to be breathing, she couldn't be dead. Not when help had finally arrived for her. She couldn't go out like this.

"Hold on, Murkystrike... We'll get you out of here."

Claws rent the barricade surrounding her, and Mistyfalcon breathed a sigh of relief as he saw that Murkystrike was alive. Worse for wear, but she was breathing. Movement in his peripheral vision made him spin, and his eyes landed on a fox-pelted Asylum cat. Beneath the fox pelt were calico-patterned legs, tail and face... Edged by pale white fur. Blue eyes were just visible, peering out of the fox' monstrous jaws.

"Emberkit..." He breathed in shock, "Wait! Don't attack me! You were Shadowclan once!" He spoke in a rush, hoping his words reached the tom before he could move. "Don't you remember? I'm Mistypaw- falcon, now. You were only a kit, we searched everywhere when you and Burntkit disappeared!" If the pelt-wearing tom truly didn't remember, if Mistyfalcon was wrong... Then he had no choice but to fight. He didn't know if he could come to blows with the kit that he'd played with outside the nursery all those moons ago.

And then more movement caught his eye, pale fur beneath a pelt. If he was a missing kit, it wasn't one of Shadowclan's, and thus not someone Mistyfalcon knew. The pelted stranger moved forward... And Mistyfalcon shifted slightly to the side when the stranger's attention shifted, and sprang forwards, darting beneath the pale-furred tom to rake at soft belly fur. Defending himself and defending Murkystrike's prone form was all he could do, in this situation.

A growl escaped Theron as the WindClan cat managed to get around her, grabbing her scruff and giving it one good shake. With a yowl of annoyance, she managed to slip free but that shake had been...Something, she would give that WindClan that. She hissed as she tried to right herself, before the name that the she-cat - Zinnia - said caused something to click in her mind. "...I do know you," she laughed, straightening up a little. "Roe had...Some fondness for you - speaking highly about that little game you played against each other. ...He is a soft-heart, I will give him that. But...Perhaps I will be nice enough to give you a swift death to ease his little heart."

Theron is stunned.

It hurt, having claws rake down the her exposed underbelly. A snarl escaped her muzzle as the scrawny she-cat managed to wiggle free and tried to escape. With a huff, Lexine reared backwards and brought her paws down hard on the she-cat's back, before she dragged the claws down Hayglow's spine - pulling the terrified warrior back towards her. "No, no, you aren't getting away from me that easily," she growled as she leaned down toward the she-cat.

The breathe escaped Hayglow as paws slammed into her, sending her crashing to the ground. Her back spasmed under the heavy blow and then she screamed as claws were dragged across her back. Panic gripped her head as she struggled to get her limbs to listen to her, terrified for a brief, painful moment that Lexine had broken something important with that blow. But finally her limbs listened, scrambling to her paws as she managed to slip away.
