Subject: Birds of a Feather [skc kits] Sun 14 Feb 2021 - 12:28
The sky above was gray and cloudy, promising more of the fluffy white stuff that was on the ground. Snow, Ravenclaw had said, and the dark-furred she-cat didn't seem to be overly thrilled by it like Birdkit was. Birdkit couldn't understand why, honestly. She was sprawled on her back now, idly tossing a mossball from paw to paw. There was nothing else to do, as it seemed the other kits in the nursery were asleep. None of the older cats would play with her, they all seemed to be so busy, even mom and dad. In short, Birdkit was bored. Very bored.
The pitter-patter of paws in the snow was therefor quick to catch the kit's attention, and soft, light green eyes swung in the direction of the noise hopefully. Another kit! Finally. She'd thought they would sleep all day!
"Hey, come play! Aren't you bored, too?" Birdkit asked the other kit cheerfully, playfully tossing the mossball in their direction before they could so much as respond.

Muddykit toddled out of the nursery, still not completely trusting of the legs beneath him. Ah well, if he fell, at least it would be cushioned by the snow that covered the whole of camp. He blinked his amber eyes in the bright light of the outside, still used to the gloominess of the nursery. Not too far away, Birdkit lay playing with a mossball, so he tried to sneak up on her. They were cousins, but Muddykit still didn't understand any of the family tree; as far he was concerned, the entire clan was pretty much his family. At least that's what Primroselight made it sound like when she talked about her siblings. Both his sisters were in Starclan, but at least the clan had plenty of kits for him to play with. I wonder if they have snow to play in as well. His mother tried to look happy, but even he could tell that it was just so no-one tried to comfort her.
He crept through the snow, trying to be as quiet as possible, almost as if Birdkit was prey he was hunting. However, it soon turned out he wasn't very good at sneaking around. "Hey! You weren't meant to notice me!" Muddykit giggled, but instead of batting the mossball back, he leapt at her. "I'm going to be bestest warrior! Meanie rouges don't stand a chance!" Asylum was all he had ever known, so he didn't exactly knew what it meant when the queens talked about the 'good old days,' but he had heard stories about Bloodstrike and Flowerthorn, so mostly whenever an unfamiliar cat came near him, he would yelp and run away.

Shadekit perked up, poking her head out from where she was curled up, tail over her face for warmth. Birdkit and Muddykit were playing without her, and with a moss ball nonetheless. That simply would not do. The dark-furred kit was at a clear disadvantage against the white of the snow, but still she ventured away from Ravenclaw's safety and padded out into the cold, one small paw after the other. The tantalizing moss ball lay forgotten as her sister and cousin wrestled, so she took her opportunity to snatch it up with needle claws. She giggled, high and child-like, flopping onto her back to bat the ball around with her back paws.
"Ha, I got the ball! It's mine now! You'll have to fight me for it!" she crowed, popping back up to her feet. She gave Birdkit and Muddykit a taunting grin, then grabbed the ball in her teeth and ran off with it, away from the nursery. Let's see how far she was allowed to go...

Birdkit grinned at Muddykit's answer to her.
"You can't hide in the snow, though." She smirked in response. Laughter bubbled out of her as the larger tom leapt for her instead of the mossball, and Birdkit batted at her cousin with sheathed forepaws playfully.
"Shadekit!" Birdkit squeaked happily at the sight of her sister, attention drawn to her as she'd spoken. She had her mossball, unbelievable!
"Give that back, you thief!" She cried out in indignation, "Come on, Muddykit, let's get her!" She ducked from Muddykit's paws then, and grinning, she turned to chase after Shadekit on somewhat unsteady legs of her own, paws sinking into the snow as she tried to run.

"HEY!" Muddykit said unnecessarily loudly. He didn't really care about the mossball, just the fact that Shadekit had nicked it. It wasn't even his to start with, but maybe, if he hoped Birdkit get it back, he could borrow it to play with.
He sprinted after his cousin, at first pulling in front of the pale-grey kit, only to slip and fall flat on his face. Turned out, snow was nowhere near as fun when it was up your nose. "Wait for me!" He called as he got to his feet again, and tried to shake his pelt out, which was now coated in snow. Primroselight wouldn't be happy, since it would make him cold, but a thought popped into his head. This will make it so easy for me to hide! Still trying to stay stealthy, he was determined to corner Shadekit in the nursery. If he wasn't able to sneak up on Birdkit, maybe he could sneak up on his other cousin.

Birchkit perked up at the sound of mayhem coming from outside the nursery, and she recognized the voices of her kin. She had woken up late again! She came careening out of the nursery just as the others took off. "Hey, wait up!" She cheered, taking off after the other kittens. She had no idea what was going on, but she DID know that she wanted to be a part of it!
