the last straw [closed]

It had taken him a while to do some but Griffon had finally built up the courage to try and interact with a Thunderclanner again. The last time he had, he had burst into tears and ran away. It hadn’t been showing his strength as well as he had liked. He was frustrated, overtired, and maybe it shouldn’t have been his first thought to go talk to a cat. But he was social, and when he talked with his friends it made him feel better. The same could happen with strangers, right?

He glanced around, trying to find someone his age that he could speak with. His eyes landed on a kit younger than he was. He smiled, and approached her cautiously. His tail flicked carefully and he gave the she-cat a small smile. "Hi! I’m Griffon." A cat this young surely couldn’t have prejudices about him yet, right? Maybe he could set her on the right path, start off on the right foot.

Reign finally chosen her clan name, Waterkit.  She was excited to be part of a clan.  Somethings were new to her, such as excepting that the cats who wear other animals pelts were part of them.  She had become less and less afraid of them, realizing that now that she was in a clan none of them would hurt her.  She was walking in the camp when she realized that something was walking towards her.  Something that made her jump back.

D-d-d-dog, she thought fearfully.

Screams, as if they were happening all over again, came filling her mind.  Her fathers screams.  She closed her eyes and upon opening them again, as the animal came closer, she realized that it was a cat.  One of the cats that wear other pelts.  But why would any cat want to wear that pelt.  The cat seemed nice, trying to make conversation, but she wasn't too fond of trying to talk to a cat who was wearing the pelt that could have been the animal that killed her parents.

"Rei- Waterkit," she said, introducing herself with her new name for the first time.  "Why do you wear that?  Why do any of you wear them?  Do you just kill anything you want because it's fun or merely to have the best pelt?

Griffon had been feeling hopeful for this conversation. None of his friends from back home were here, so he had thought he could make some. He was desperate at this point, really. He spent most of his days lonely, keeping a watchful eye on the camp, feeling envious of their close bonds. He had bonds like that too, but it seemed they were so far apart. They had all been split up, stationed in different clans. He immediately sensed the fear in the kit’s eyes. It was evident, he had seen it before. He took half of a step back, inhaling sharply. Had he done something wrong?

The she-cat introduced herself, and the Standard nodded. He opened his mouth to speak, but Waterkit hadn’t been finished. He blinked, taken aback. Her words set in, and the young tom felt his fur bristling. It wasn’t fair, the hostility they were treated with. Usually, he would have responded kindly. She was young, after all, and it was her right to question. But he had been feeling such emotions lately, so angry, that he couldn’t help but getting frustrated. He had tried multiple times now, to make friends here. To make this less miserable. To try and fit in here. But he couldn’t. It seemed like he was always just to be a hated part of the Asylum. His claws dug into the ground, unsheathed. He was trying to control himself, trying to keep calm.

But the strand that was holding him together snapped. He growled under his breath, pouncing at the kit. He pinned her for a few seconds before the realization set in. His flank heaving, he quickly got off, blinking. What had that been? He had felt so angry, so mad, it was like he lost control.

"I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean-"

Fear

Everything happening from the moment the cat came up to her made her afraid.  She was not trying to be mean, she was just asking.  The pelt brought back horrible memories for her and when the cat pinned her that did not help either.  She was so scared.  So afraid.  She just had light scratches on each side of her neck, but for a kit it hurt so bad.  Everything reminded her of that day her parents died.  She did not know what to do.  She tried to escape, but that only hurt worse.

"Cedarheart!" She yelled through the tears that streamed down her face.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, but in reality was actually a few moments, the Asylum cat stopped pinning her and tried to apologize.  Tears streamed down her face.  It took her a second to get up.  Her ears were back.  Her face had a terrified expression.  She backed up, keeping her eyes on the Asylum cat.  She was so scared and she really hoped that Cedarheart would come soon so she could get out of that mess.

Cedarheart’s heart stopped when she heard her name. She knew that voice, and she could feel the fear in the tone. Instantly, she whipped around, mother’s instinct kicking in. She didn’t care who she had to hurt. Nobody would get close to her children. It was as though she had been possessed by an angrier being. She ran, faster than she ever had toward the center of camp, fur bristling. And then her eyes landed on him. An Asylum cat. She hissed under her breath. He would regret the day he ever even looked at Waterkit. Her claws were unsheathed at this point, she tackled him, pushing him to the ground. She tore at him angrily, raking her claws down his back.

"You monster!" she growled. "Don’t you ever touch her again!" She exclaimed, not caring who heard. Her ears were drumming so hard she didn’t hear the cats rushing in, much older Asylum cats, dragging her off him. She struggled, writhing about, but it was no use. They dug deep into her pelt, dragging her away. She let out a cry of pain. It had been quick. But she was gone.

Waterkit watched as Cedarheart push the Asylum cat down.  It happened quickly.  She wanted Cedarheart to come, but watching Cedarheart hurting this cat and seeing the violent side of Cedarheart come out was something that the kit did not want to experience.  "Cedarheart, it's okay!  That's enough," she told the older she-cat.  She did not want to sound like she was ordering the other she-cat to do anything, she just couldn't bare the fact that her new mother could kill that cat.

Then more cats with different animals pelts came.  They dragged Cedarheart off of the other cat.  They were hurting her new mother.  Waterkit cried watching her mom in pain.  She couldn't let someone else she knew get hurt.  Small Waterkit ran up to one of the Asylum cats that was trying to pull her mother away.  "Get away from her!" She ordered the older heartless Asylum cats, biting one of their legs.  Unfortunately, her small teeth did almost nothing to the older cat, who pushed her off of their leg.  She hit the ground, feeling completely useless.  She laid there, crying, unable to do anything else.
