A New Way to Learn

The sun had just started to set, the warmth of the day quickly fading as the light from the sunset dimmed gradually. Murkystrike had woken up and was preparing to go out when she caught sight of Ichtaca not far away, and after a moment she called out for her. "Hey! Ichtaca! I was about to go out for a hunt, but need accompaniment. Would you be able to join me?" The young warrior asked, her eyes betraying nothing as she made it seem like the typical request. Hopefully the two of them would be left alone, at least alone enough, for Murkystrike to try to help the other she-cat.

Ichtaca looked over to Murkystrike, a small smile rising on her face. She quickly tugged her face back into a neutral expression. ”Sure, I’ll be happy to.” She responded, stepping closer to Murkystrike. Out of the corner of her eyes, she spotted her Nightstriker group giving her weird looks. Thankfully, they said nothing.

”Lead the way.” Ichtaca told Murkystrike, heading for the exit of the camp.

Murkystrike nodded, keeping her expression stoic and unmoving, though a sparkle was in her eyes as she noted the other she-cat's smile. As she turned and led the way from camp, she maintained the usual distance she kept between her and the other Asylum cats. Once they were a fair distance from camp, however, the dark-furred she-cat relaxed and turned towards Ichtaca, grinning. "That worked well! Alright, so we're going to go to the Pine Grove. It's a great place for hunting, but we should still be careful. Just in case." Her chest tightened as she spoke, turning to guide the she-cat towards the clearing. Once they arrived, Murkystrike carefully scouted out their surroundings, being as thorough as she possibly could. After a while of her meticulous inspection, she returned back to Ichtaca with a grin. "Are you ready to get started? We may have to wait a short while for the prey to return, but it will be worth it. This gives us a chance to go through some basics."

Ichtaca bounded along behind Murkystrike, trying her best to keep the spring from her steps. Once they were far enough away from camp, Murkystrike dropped her pretence and Ichtaca did the same. The black-and-white cat burst into a huge grin of excitement before quickly suppressing it down to a small grin. "Yeah, you're right." She agreed.

After arriving in the clearing, Ichtaca took her time to examine the surroundings as Murkystrike scouted the surroundings. Once Murkystrike returned, Ichtaca gave a determined nod. "Oh, I'm ready. Ready as I'll ever be!" She mewed, nodding to Murkystrike.

Murkystrike purred, tail flicking happily as she moved a couple steps away from her pupil and positioned herself careful at the roots of a nearby tree. The recent scent of mouse was promising, and as she settled herself among the roots where the scent was strong she explained quietly. "The roots orders and underbrush are great places to wait for prey. There's a strong scent of mouse here, I would not be surprised if it was buried under the snow and mud nearby. Why don't you wait on the other side, and if you see it come out, snag it with your paw. You'll need to be quick, but you shouldn't have to chase it."

Ichtaca nodded in response as Murkystrike spoke. She crept towards the other side of the bush, her body swaying slightly every once a few steps, and stopped at the other side. Her attempts to sneak her way across silently was...well, partly successful. She managed to get closer to the bush, but her tail made an uncomfortable amount of noise while helping her to keep her balance.

Cautiously, She extended her claw and waited. As a blur of movement darted out of the bush, Ichtaca leapt at it and tried to grab it. Her claw was slightly off, catching the mouse by the tail, but she jerked it back violently and snapped its neck with a bite.

There was a moment of silence as Ichtaca stared in shock, amazed by her success.
