A beautiful night (o)

It was another snowy night.

Haru made her way back to the barn, her paw prints trailing behind her in the freshly dropped snow. She carried a fresh kill in her mouth, a young mouse smaller than average due to it being leafbare. However prey is prey, and this would be her first meal in days. As she slipped through one of the cracks in the abandoned barn she quickly took a glimpse around her surroundings, checking to see if anyone else had stumbled in while she was away. Her ears were perked and her eyes were alert, however she did not find anything out of place.

The barn was a good place to stay, better than her previous situation which was staying in a broken down monster that some two-leg had abandoned a few years ago. Haru headed towards her nest, which was just old moss and hay that she had bundled together. She sat down and began to munch at her mouse it was a small size so she intended to savor it and not eat it all at once.

Above her nest was a medium sized hole in the barns roof, Haru often gazed up at the stars from her nest and honestly enjoyed the view. Tonight was another gorgeous night silverpelts stars were glimmering, there were little clouds to be seen and the fluffy snow gently drifted down.

It was a lonely night, but a beautiful one.

Flame smiled down at crystal as the neared an abandoned barn, after leaving dennis and after touring the area, the barn was the closest place to settle for the night. He caught the scent of another cat and motioned for crystal to stay and be quiet while he went to check it out. As the young calico tom padded into the barn he noticed another cat, looking at the sky.

"Ummm, hello, is there room for two more?" He asked. Tonight was going to be cold so he hoped there was room as crystal still her her kitten fuzz and couldnt stand the cold.

Crystal trotted behind her brother, shivering. She wasn't built for the cold: all skin and bones and wispy fur. The barn wasn't much warmer, but she appreciated the lack of wind nonetheless as she stepped inside. As Flame motioned for her to be silent, something she really didn't mind doing in the possible presence of a stranger, she began thinking about uncle Dennis. Was he thinking about her right now? Did he miss her and Flame? Or had he just raised her because he had to and dumped her at the first opportunity? She hoped it was the first one. She liked uncle Dennis, something she was quickly realising was rare. Other cats, as it was turning out, weren't all that she'd hyped them up to be in her mind.

Haru was the type of cat to take a nap after a meal, no matter how small or large it is. She considered it a strong point, while others may view it as an inconvenience. During the time Flame and Crystal entered the barn Haru was enjoying her slumber. It wasn’t until she heard voices that she woke up.

The ginger she-cat was startled at first by the sudden visitor, after all it was several moons since she last saw a cat. “Why of course, you two are able to stay however long you wish too.” Haru said with a gentle purr, this barn was not her territory nor her home. She had no means to defend it since her fighting skills were subpar, if she was ever to be faced with danger she would of fled.

Flame nodded in thanks before motioning for his little sister. "We will sleep in the hay but i want you next to me for warmth." He mewed then with crystal, padded towards a hay pile. "Do you want a night time story?" he asked knowing stories helped her fall asleep faster.

Crystal was snapped out of her thoughts by Flame telling her where they were sleeping. A hay pile didn't look as comfortable as the nests back at home, but Flame was a lot comfier to cuddle with than uncle Dennis so it probably wouldn't be that bad. She nodded at his request that she stay close to him. She didn't want to sleep without him in a place with strangers anyway.

Crystal smiled at her big brother. She did love stories; they helped when she felt sad or didn't feel like sleeping. "Yes!" she looked down, knowing that he'd probably say no to her next question. "Could you... Could you tell me one about Mom? It doesn't have to be real! You can make it up. I don't want you to cry again."

The two cats that came into the barn seemed far to young to be on their own. Haru was certain that something must of had happened to their family, they also seemed awfully tired. The she-cat watched on from afar, not really being able to hear their conversation since she was quite far and she did not want to pry into their past, it did not matter after all. The only thing that matters is the present.

Haru remembered that she still did not eat a portion of the mouse she just had caught, and while it was not the biggest or tastiest prey it should suffice. The ginger she-cat grabbed the mouse and padded towards the two. She dropped the mouse near Flame and dipped her head respectfully. “Must be hungry, it isn’t much but eat up.” She gently smiled at Crystal, one glance was all it took to know that something terrible must of happened. “Eat and rest, I’m sure things will turn around soon.”

Flame smiled at crystal and the noticed the stranger come towards them. "Thank you, if you want to stay and listen to the story you can. Crystal, here eat this." he mewed giving her the rest of the mouse after taking a bite. This cat reminded him of dennis, helping them without even know who they were.

Crystal looked suspiciously at the stranger, though she accepted the mouse and ate it quickly. Food was food. She didn't like the idea of a strange cat listening in on their story, but Flame wanted her to stay so Crystal had no say in the matter.
