Streamtail lurched up from the warrior's den as soon as a small sliver of light hit her nest. Slightly groggy but still awake, the blue-grey she-cat flicked her long tail as she padded towards the apprentice's den, poking her head in to spot Dewpaw's familiar, dark gray pelt. Padding forward and gently nudging the young apprentice with her nose, the warrior whispered in her apprentice's ear, "Dewpaw? Wake up, it's time for training. Come on, you can grab some fresh-kill from the pile and meet me by the entrance of camp." As soon as she finished saying that, Streamtail headed out of the apprentice's den and sat down, waiting for her apprentice to come. She suddenly thought about what they were missing...an Asylum cat. Spotting one nearby, she waved him over. "We're going hunting. Join us."

A dark gray head shot up as she was summoned, and Dewpaw stood, stepping around her denmates attempting to hold back the loud purr that was rumbling in her throat. As soon as she exited the confines of the apprentice den, she shook her pelt out and smiled brightly at Streamtail. "Good morning Streamtail!" She mewed, bounding over to stand near her mentor. "I don't think I could eat right now, I'm too excited! Could I maybe take it to the elders instead? Carpsplash would be happy to get it, I think! I can eat when we get back!" She mewed, seeming to stay light on her feet to the point of almost bouncing in preparation and glee.

Streamtail chuckled lightly, tapping her tail to the apprentice's nose in an affectionate action. "Well you're certainly excited! Sure, take some prey for Carpsplash. I'm sure he would appreciate it." Waiting a few moments until Dewpaw came back, Streamtail waved her tail towards the apprentice to lead her towards Beech Copse. "Today, I'm teaching you how to hunt land prey. We can catch fish if you want to, later on, but since the river's almost frozen, it wouldn't be of much use if I taught you to catch fish, especially because it's leafbare." Arriving at the dry land full of beech trees, Streamtail instantly scented mouse. Nodding towards Dewpaw, the blue-grey she-cat dropped down into a hunting crouch, making sure her long tail didn't brush against the ground to make noise. "This is called the hunting crouch. The tip to this is that you have to bend down low, but not too low or else you might make sound to chase away prey. Also, be sure to lift your tail off the ground, but not too high either."Spotting a mouse, the warrior padded closer and closer towards it, before pouncing on it. The mouse squeaked in horror as it spotted the cat, before attempting to dash away, towards Dewpaw. "Dewpaw, try to catch that." Even though that was a failure of an example, maybe her apprentice had payed attention to her technique and could try to catch the mouse Streamtail missed.

Dewpaw nodded enthusiastically as Streamtail explained what they were going to do that day, and practically bounced out of camp behind her mentor. As she stepped out of camp for the first time, the apprentice's eyes were wide with awe and joy, RiverClan's territory was so much larger than she had ever dreamed! And it was now her playground, her home. Warmth filled her chest, keeping out the chill and she couldn't help the purr that rumbled in her chest as she followed Streamtail away from camp and further into their territory. It was long after they reached a clearing with beech trees that her mentor stopped, and Dewpaw snapped back to attention. Watching the she-cat carefully, the apprentice mimicked her stance, trying to keep her balance while her heart was racing in excitement. As Streamtail padded away in her stance, Dewpaw watched while maintaining hers, watching closely. The loud squeak startled her, and as a small brown creature darted in her direction Dewpaw instinctively attempted to pounce on it.

As the young apprentice made her leap, a sudden shadow swooped down over her back, and she thrust her hind legs down to stop her nose just shy of the wickedly long talons that closed around the mouse. The wing of the eagle that had stolen the mouse practically from her jaws brushed by her head, and Dewpaw was dazed for a moment as the eagle tried to rise further into the air. A sharp squeal from the mouse in the bird's talons is what brought her from the temporary gaze, and she turned to look at her mentor before dashing for the bird's back. That was her mouse, and she was going to take it home!

When a dark shadow drifted above her apprentice as Streamtail watched the mouse carefully, the blue-grey she-cat knew that they'd messed up. Streamtail growled in anger as the eagle swooped down and practically snatched the mouse off the ground in one smooth move. The she-cat charged towards Dewpaw, frightened for the young apprentice, until Dewpaw literally slammed into the eagle. Blinking in confusion twice, Streamtail gave Dewpaw a quick nod for her speedy thinking. Without another word, the experienced warrior gave the eagle a kick on the side, before dropping down quickly and dragging Dewpaw out of its attack range. "Go for the wings!" Streamtail yelled at her apprentice. She would try her best to protect the younger she-cat.

Streamtail was at her side in a moment, pulling her away just out of the eagle's reach. Dewpaw's breath hitched as she looked up to her mentor, nodding as her brain tried to decipher what she had said. Wings, okay, wings, definitely the wings. Turning her gaze back to the bird, she looked at how large the wings were and shrunk slightly. There was no way she could get those.... Unless.... She took a deep breath before launching forward again, aiming for the broad back of the eagle. Her landing was a bit sloppy, but she dug her claws in desperately trying to maintain a grip on the large bird. She was away from the talons and beak here, but how long would her hold last?

Dewpaw used Leap-and-Hold, dealing 6 damage and costing 10 SP. Eagle is held for 2 turns.

Streamtail felt her heart skip a beat as Dewpaw clung to the eagle desperately. Why did she always seem to have bad luck when training her apprentices? Sighing in defeat, Streamtail slid underneath the eagle, who was being held by Dewpaw, and slashed her claws across the eagle's feathery underbelly, smirking in satisfaction as thin lines of red blood welled up from the wounds. Wasting no time, the she-cat scampered out and gazed at Dewpaw, knowing that the apprentice's hold wouldn't last for too long. "Be careful Dewpaw! If you slip off, be sure to land on your paws!"

The eagle continued it's desperate attempt to free itself of the cat on it's back, and Dewpaw clung on for her life. Her mentor's voice came from the side, and she looked over. She tried to nod, but she was sure it looked like her head was just bobbing along with the eagle's movements. Finally, the eagle spread it's wings, and Dewpaw took that as her chance. Digging her claws in deeper for a moment, she twisted to the side and let her claws rake over the back of the bird as she rolled off and got back to her paws, just as the bird started to rise into the air once more.

Dewpaw continued to use Leap and Hold, dealing 6 damage. No additional SP cost.

"You're doing great Dewpaw! Just...one more blow--" Streamtail bared her teeth at the eagle, sprinting towards its' underbelly. Reaching up with her unsheathed claws, the blue-gray she-cat slashed at it viciously, feathers drifting off in fluffy down. Stepping out of the way, knowing that the eagle would drop out of the sky, Streamtail padded closer towards Dewpaw, shielding her apprentice protectively.

Just as the eagle started to get out of reach, Dewpaw's mentor surged forth in a flurry of claws. The bird fell to the ground with a full thud, and Dewpaw ran to meet Streamtail. Catching her breath for several heartbeats, she turned her face up to her mentor's hesitantly. "Did we do it?"
