Snowflight knew he couldn’t avoid Sunningrocks forever. With leaf-bare storming closer, RiverClan needed all the prey they could gather, and the hunting was best near their border with ThunderClan. Border skirmishes were few and far between; in many cats’ heads, prey and territory had taken a back seat to the missing kits. Besides, he was a warrior, for StarClan's sake. He needed to act like one. No more sneaking around his own homeland like a rogue. He would go to Sunningrocks, and if he caught ThunderClan scent, he’d leave. No ThunderClan warrior he knew, not even Beecloud, would wade into the near-freezing water just for a talk. It was simple.

But Sunningrocks, as always, seemed to have other ideas. Focused on scent as he was, Snowflight didn’t notice when his paw came down on something too squishy to be land. What he did notice were the fangs sinking into his leg half a heartbeat later. He leaped back, spitting furiously, to find a snake hanging off his foreleg. Letting out a sharp yelp, he stumbled back; the snake maintained its hold. After some desperate (and wildly unsuccessful) flailing, an idea popped into his head. He wasn’t sure if snakes had necks, exactly, but— Snowflight bit down just behind the snake’s own head. That, at last, convinced it to release him. He tightened his grip until something crunched under his teeth, then carried the snake over to the river and dropped it in. A moment later, it was gone, dragged away by the current.

Snowflight blinked into the water. ”I am never,” he said softly, with feeling, ”going to these rocks again.” Then, with a heavy sigh, he dropped into a sitting position to assess the damage. A single bite, two pinprick marks on his leg. Though he felt fine so far, he'd never really paid that much attention to Stormbringer's warnings about which snakes were venomous and which weren't. Asking Thornpaw was an option, but...

Snake used Embedded Bite, dealing 20 damage and using 40 stamina.
Snowflight used Teeth Grip, dealing 12 damage and using 20 stamina. Serpentine Movement failed! Snake can no longer fight.

Daisybloom had taken every opportunity she had gotten to search for herbs. She didn’t want to be low this coming season, and needed to make sure she was stocked up before it was too late. She had gathered a substantial variety, hunting in a different spot, near Sunningrocks. It was as she rummaged through the grasses that she heard a yelp. Her tabby head snapped up, and she followed the sound. Soon enough she spotted a white tom, sitting at Sunningrocks. Spitting out the bundle of herbs carefully on the ground, she approached him. "Are...are you ok?" asked the medicine cat.

She then realized that she probably needed to provide some explanation. "Sorry! I’m Daisybloom, one of Thunderclan’s medicine cats." She explained, blue eyes flitting around, desperate not to make eye contact. Once she made eye contact, the stuttering would worsen, and she didn’t need to embarrass herself in front of this Riverclanner.

Halfway through leaning down to give the wounds an experimental lick, Snowflight stopped in his tracks at the sound of a voice. A new voice. When he straightened up, he found a nervous-looking brown tabby (stars, why did half of ThunderClan have to look so much like Beecloud?) standing on the wrong half of Sunningrocks’s border. Intertwining forest- and herb-scents drifted in his direction, just in time for the she-cat to explain who she was. Not a trespasser, then, he noted with a small stab of relief. As important as defending RiverClan’s territory was, he didn’t feel up to a fight. “I’m Snowflight,” he said, “RiverClan. I came here to fish, but I’m heading back now.”

So saying, the white-furred tom turned, took a step toward the river (with an eye on the ground this time)…and stopped. He thought about sitting in the medicine den, watching Spiderquill’s decorations peel away from the walls. His friend’s scent faded more by the day. The quiet clench of his heart in response settled his decision. Turning back toward Daisybloom, he began, tone uncertain enough to match hers, “Actually—could you take a look at this first?” Briefly, he wondered if she knew Spiderquill was gone. Refusing to let that thought linger, Snowflight gave himself a shake and went on, raising his injured leg as he did so. “A snake bit me a minute ago, and I don’t know if it was one of the dangerous ones.”

Daisybloom nodded as he spoke. So maybe he hadn’t been the source of the noise? Her eyes fell to his wounds. No, it had probably been him. He probably just doesn’t want to get treated by a Thunderclan medicine cat. she realized, ready to leave him to his medicine cats back at his camp. But Snowflight seemed to change his mind, and she drew cautiously closer, getting a better look at his leg.

He had been bitten alright, and for a second her mind flashed to her father, to Rainstrike’s treason. Her breathing quickened for a moment, and slowed back down instants later, so quickly that one might have wondered whether they imagined it. "If it was venomous, it would have worsened by now, so you should be mostly alright." she explained, her voice soft and uncertain, just as his had been moments ago. "But if I’m here, I...I can help patch it up a bit." She grabbed a bit of moss she had found, pressing it against the wound, letting it soak up the blood. As she waited, she realized things might have been awkward for the Riverclanner, so she tried to make conversation.

"How is, uh, Thornpaw doing?" she asked. The medicine cat had shared the news of her mentor’s fate at the last medicine cat gathering, and she felt for the younger cat. Mossbloom had helped her through so much, she couldn’t imagine losing her mentor when she was just starting out. "I mean, if you’ve seen her much." she added on. It was possible the tom hadn’t really talked to her, but it was the best shot at a conversation the medicine cat had. She didn’t know enough about Riverclan to ask him about anything else, and he surely didn’t know much about Thunderclan.

Pressing a ground cob nut and a cobweb over the injury, she stepped away, looking up towards Snowflight. "That should be okay." she mewed, standing a bit awkwardly a few paces away from the tom.
