Thrown to the foxes (closed)

Waiting for her apprentice by the camp entrance, Tulipfang groomed a patch of her pelt on her side that was sticking up every which way from sleeping funny that night. The sun had just begun to rise up into the grey covered sky, it's normally radiant light dimmed by the clouds that most certainly held imminent snowfall. The air was cold and brisk, but Tulipfang hoped that once they got moving they would warm up and hopefully the snow would wait until they returned to camp.

Murkypaw quickly emerged from the apprentice den, squeezing through the entrance. She had already grown larger, and she nodded respectfully to Tulipfang as she approached. "Good morning, Tulipfang. What are we doing today?" She asked, shifting her weight from side to side in an effort to keep some movement. It was terribly cold out, and she just wanted to get moving.

Glad to see that her apprentice was ready to go per usual, Tulipfang began to lead the pair out of camp. "Today we'll be practicing some more hunting skills," she purred with a smile as she gave her fluffy pelt a shake. Hopefully the quicker they started the sooner they'd warm up.

Murkypaw followed readily, looking forward to the chance to keep sharpening her hunting skills. She had been practicing relentlessly, and had improved so much over the recent moon. She had started to stalk her prey with confidence, and while there were still misses, she was learning from her mistakes and the ratio of failures to successes was getting better gradually. Soon she would catch that rabbit, she knew it. As the pair made their way into the territory, Murkypaw felt her body warm at the prospect of the hunt ahead. Opening her senses to survey the area around her, she took a deep breath. The tastes of ShadowClan's land washed over her tongue, and pride flickered in her expression. Would today be the day? She could only hope, she thought as she progressed further away from camp with Tulipfang.

She padded alongside her mentor when the scent of a rabbit crossed her nose. Murmuring quietly to Tulipfang, she nodded in the direction it had come from before dropping into a stalk, her balance still a bit shaky, but far better than it had originally been. Once she was a few tail lengths away from her mentor, the wind shifted slightly, and suddenly a new, far fresher scent came from a low bush at her side. A flash of red and white could be seen among the leaves, but as she turned to investigate the odd colored shape burst from the bush, attempting to tackle her to the ground. By the length of her whiskers was she able to dart to the side, eyes wide in terror as she let out a startled yowl and lashed out recklessly. Her claws met fur, and the smallest of scratches formed in the pelt of the fox. The squirrel was forgotten entirely as Murkypaw regained her footing before the fox that now loomed over her.

Within moments a fox appeared out of nowhere and their once peaceful hunt turned into a fight for their lives. The fox took a swing at her apprentice and not waiting any longer for the beast to make another move, Tulipfang jumped into action.

Racing towards the fox and skidding to a halt, the white and ginger molly reared up on her hind legs. Slashing wildly at its muzzle, she came back down and did her best to jump away from its grasp. It didn't help that it was probably just as hungry as they were, but hopefully they'd be able to fend it off or even drive it off before it hurt anyone else.

Tulipfang used Rear-Up to Slash, causing 14 damage and costing 15 stamina.

The fox whirled around to glare at the new assailant, and lunged forward with sharp teeth. Murkypaw winced as the teeth made contact, making sure that Tulipfang was still getting up before darting forward, sliding under the belly of the fox and lashing out with sharp claws.
