Sitting near the camp entrance, Tulipfang waited for Mistpaw, one of the clan's newer apprentices. Tonight, she'd promised the younger tom that she'd take him out to spar, since his mentor was busy with their other warrior duties. Hopefully, she'd be able to teach him some moves that could easily be remembered and hopefully they had some fun with it as well.
Mistypaw had tended to the elders earlier, and with that done he now padded towards the camp entrance. Last time he'd been nervous to approach the camp entrance where a patrol had waited for him, but today he seemed more relaxed with only seeking a familiar face.
Tulipfang had offered to spar with Mistypaw earlier, and he'd accepted. Spotting the giner and white she-cat, the dark-furred apprentice trotted over. "Hello, Tulipfang." He greeted.
"Hello," Tulipfang purred as the younger tom made his way over to her. Standing up and giving her white and ginger pelt a shake, she turned towards the camp entrance. "Let's get going then!" she mewed with a smile before trotting out of camp. It'd been a while since she'd sparred and was ready to get started.
Mistypaw followed Tulipfang out of camp with a flick of his tail. He was ready to get started, especially after the recent fights he'd been in. The experiences weren't unwelcome, but he'd rather not see his friends hurt and wanted to improve further.
He allowed the silence to stretch between them, not seeing the need to make small talk as he followed the older warrior. Mistypaw hadn't failed to note it was becoming a habit, but he liked the quiet and didn't feel that there was anything wrong with it. Some might've called it standoffish, but really, he just enjoyed the peace and quiet.
Padding onward in silence, Tulipfang pondered what they might work on first as far as sparring. They could work on the more strategic side of things but unlike her father, she was more about just jumping in and giving it her all. She had paws full of sharp claws and a head full of sharp teeth, and she intended to use them, not dillydally and try to find her opponents weakness or whatever Daisyflame had taught her about.
Casting a side glance, she realized whatever they worked on would really depend on whatever Mistypaw needed to work on. Unfortunately, she wasn't his actual mentor and wasn't sure how much he already knew, but even so there was only one way to find out...
"Surprise attack!" she yowled suddenly before whipping around and playfully batting Mistypaw's head with a sheathed paw.
Tulipfang used Front Paw Blow, causing 9 damage and costing 5 stamina.
"Tulipfang!" He sputtered in surprise, managing to duck out of the way of her blow. Barely, really, but it counted for something at least.
"That was a dirty trick," Mistypaw half-growled, though there was no real venom in his words. His own forepaw lashed out in response, sheathed claws but hoping to strike her while she was off-balance. His toes brushed fur briefly, but that was it.
Mistypaw used dodge and fight for -15sp, dealing -3 damage. Effect dice: 1,2,3: counterattack fail. 4,5,6: counterattack successful. Counterattack unsuccessful!
Mistypaw 20 / 20hp (dodge and fight, no damage taken) 65 / 80 (80 - 15)
Unable to contained a giggle at his attempt at a counter attack, Tulipfang shuffled backwards unscathed. He had the spirit, which was good, but spirit wouldn't make up for a lack of skills on the battlefield.
"Counter attacks are all about catching your opponent off guard, but also being able to make contact with their pelt. Keep yourself low, yet light on your paws. If you stomp around your opponent will know exactly where you're planning to step next," she mewed with a smile, a playful gleam in her eyes. Rushing forward, Tulipfang grabbed hold of smoky tom's fluffy tail just hard enough to keep her grasp, but not enough to draw any blood.
Yanking back quickly, she easily sent the tom to his paws. "And keep your tail tucked so it doesn't get caught in somecat's jaws," she huffed in a light-hearted manner.
Tulipfang used Tail Yank, causing 6 damage and costing 10 stamina. Mistypaw is stunned for 1 turn.
Mistypaw listened to her words, his whiskers twitching slightly in amusement as Tulipfang explained how a counterattack was supposed to work.
"Noted." Mistypaw managed an undignified oof as he was yanked backwards. Starclan, getting his tail handed to him wasn't how he had planned this to go! Not that things ever went according to plan, for Mistypaw.
There was little he could do while on his paws, but it was also going to take the dark-furred apprentice a moment to make it back to his paws.

Rearing up on her hind legs, Tulipfang batted Mistypaw's muzzle with paws full of sheathed claws before coming back down. Giving her fluffy pelt a shake, she let out a playful huff. "So, what had we learned thus far?" she chuckled at the bedraggled tom. Hopefully she hadn't gone to hard on him...
Tulipfang used Rear Up to Slash, causing 13 damage and costing 15 stamina.
