Early warriors catch the best prey [closed]

Wisteriabloom had been up fairly early in the morning and had nothing to do. Lilypaw was still sleeping, and she didn't want to wake the tired she-cat, so the warrior had left her to rest. However, she still felt an urge to do something. Normally with heat she would have gone to cool off in the river. The river, on the other hand, had different plans. Recently it had dried up, with only small areas deep enough to catch fish. Land prey was their only option, no matter how much the warrior wanted to fish instead.

She caught a glance of Streamtail sitting, finishing her fresh-kill. "Hey, Streamtail?" She said whilst she was padding over, "Do you want to go hunting with me?"

Streamtail finished her vole, glancing up and flicking her tail as she saw Wisteriabloom. Perking up as she saw her former apprentice, Streamtail stood up and nodded once at her apprentice. "Sure! The river's all dried up, so I guess our only chance would be to catch some mice or vole. How about you show me where you hunt?"The blue-grey warrior nudged her newly-named denmate slightly, before remembering that Wisteriabloom now had an apprentice as well. As the younger she-cat lead them across the territory, Streamtail asked about Lilypaw. "How's your new apprentice? You certainly got one before I did."

"Um.. Ok, let's go to the beech copse then." Wisteriabloom wasn't used to giving older warriors instructions, especially not to her old mentor. The copse was the best place to hunt on land, as there was usually some mice or something similiar running around. Together they walked across the territory, and Streamtail questioned the young warrior about her apprentice. "Lilypaw's a great apprentice. She's definitely a much batter listener than I was!" She smiled at the silvery warrior, "I guess I'm lucky I got her so soon, but sometimes I wonder if I am a good enough mentor for her. Usually I just think of what you taught me, It's those sessions that tend to go the best."

When they reached the beech copse, Wisteriabloom turned to Streamtail, "I think we should probably split up, we'll catch more prey that way." With that, the tabby warrior trecked a little deeper into the trees. She disliked having the trees over her, seeming like they could fall down any moment. How do the other clans deal with it? She though. ShadowClan, ThunderClan and SkyClan all usually lived solely in some sort of forest. While she was thinking, the scent of mouse crossed her path. She dropped into a hunting crouch when she spotted it next to some undergrowth. Slowly creeping towards it, she paused, then pounced.

Wisteriabloom's paws landed in top of the mouse, but it quickly escaped. "Fox Dung!" She cursed the mouse under her breath. So much for proving to Streamtail I'm a capable warrior and mentor.

Streamtail nodded towards Wisteriabloom, padding further away from the trees. Spotting a vole, she instantly got into the hunting crouch, making sure that her long tail wasn't dragging on the ground. Hopefully I'm not out of practice... With that thought, Streamtail padded closer and closer towards her catch, before leaping up and slamming her paws onto the vole. It squeaked and struggled, before finally slipping out of her paws. "Foxdung!" Streamtail snarled under her breath. I'm out of practice, I'm definitely out of practice.

Wisteriabloom would hate to admit it, but watching Streamtail miss her catch the the young she-cat feel a little less embarrassed. Every warrior had their good and bad days, and hunting on land now was hard for every RiverClan member. "Happens to the best of us," she said in a whisper as to not scare away the prey, "Otherwise it would never have happened to you!" With prey to be caught, she soon returned to the hunting side of the expedition. Jaws parted slightly, she searched for more prey-scent. Soon she saw a frog hopping around nearby. It was fairly unusual to see them this far away from the river, but it had probably abandoned its home to search for a better water source. Nevertheless, she crept towards it in a hunting crouch and prepared to pounce.

Her back paw crushed a small twig. With a ribbet, the frog leapt away, out of her grasp. Why. Why can't the river just get back to normal already?

Wanting to screech in frustration as both of the warriors missed a couple of catches, Streamtail sniffed for the scent of a mouse, spotting one sniffing at the ground. With a smirk, the blue-grey warrior padded closer and closer, trying not to alert her catch. This time I have to get it. With a leap, the warrior slammed her paws on the mouse, this time hoping that she reacted fast enough to catch it. Yet again, the mouse escaped her grasp and went scampering across the dry land. With a hiss of anger, Streamtail's claws unsheathed and she kneaded the ground in fury.

Both the she-cat's hunts had been going relatively badly so far, but Wisteriabloom was determined to succeed this time. When she scented a mouse nearby, she quickly turned towards it and began to stalk the prey with little hesitation. Another mouse, another try, she thought. This time she would get it. Her paws carried her closer and closer until she was within pouncing distance. The mouse dashed, and her paws tried to catch up to it. However, the little creature was too fast for her, and it was another lost piece of prey. We might as well give up now. None of us have caught any prey. But she had to catch something - they couldn't go back to camp completely empty handed.

Streamtail let out a wavering sigh, indicating that she was...very, very disappointed at how things were turning out for them in the hunting patrol. Catching fish is way easier than catching land prey...no wonder RiverClanners like to hunt in the river. Hissing under her breath, Streamtail proceeded to slam her paws onto a water vole, praying to StarClan that this would be a good one. If StarClan had heard her prayer, they definitely ignored it. At the last second, the vole slipped out of her grasp and scampered away, to StarClan knows where. "Have you caught anything, Wisteriabloom?"
