The Mud is Alive (Closed)

Wraith settled into a sphinx-style laying position with his chin pressed into the mud. He had just got done rolling in the marshy mud prior to this, not so much changing the color of himself, but perhaps disguising his scent. His own scent wasn't working all that great at the moment, as the smell of the carrion and the marsh itself was a bit overwhelming to a tom not originally from such a swampy landscape. Wraith still needed to practice his skills to keep himself sharp. The Order would be unhappy with him if he allowed himself to get soft. He closed his eyes as well and relied entirely on his ears to tell him of approaching adversaries. Hoping to look like part of the landscape itself, Wraith intended to surprise the next cat passing by. The Balance was once again urging him to battle, and battle he would.

Having been on a solo border patrol, Tulipfang began to head back to camp after checking the far reaches of ShadowClan's territory. The sun had begun to set which meant it was time for the patrol change, and followed the usual path that her and her clanmates took through the deep marshes, until the white and ginger molly tripped over something unexpected.

Tumbling down into the sticky mud bellow, Tulipfang let out of a huff. Her pelt that she'd worked so hard to groom the day before, ruined! Pushing herself up, she looked back to see what she'd tripped over. Low and behold, the thing she'd stumbled on was certainly no misplaced stone or log, but a cat laying on the trodden path. No ShadowClan cat was mousebrained enough to cover themselves in mud and be in the way, and that told her one thing; they weren't from around here, that's for sure.

"Hey!" the she-cat hissed through bared teeth, hackles raised and claws extended as she approached the stranger. "What are you doing in here?"

Wraith stayed perfectly still, hardly even reacting when the she-cat tripped over him aside from a grunt. She turned and saw that he was there, knowing full well what he was. Wraith got to his paws in one smooth motion and turned his head slowly until she was caught in his burnt orange eyes. Upon her questioning, Wraith stepped so that his shoulders would line up with her's. Mud sloughed off of him and splatted wetly to the ground.

"Looking for you." He said simply, right before he leaped toward her with unsheathed claws.

Letting out a huff as the rogue suddenly jumped atop of her, completely catching her off guard. Now under his weight, the white and ginger molly, now stained with mud all over her pelt, couldn't help but wrinkle her nose at the scent of not only the tom, but also the area around them.

"I should've known it was a rogue from your stench," she hissed, meeting his ice cold gaze with her fiery one.

Wraith hardly reacted to her insults, only responding with cold, dead eyes and not even the faintest twitch of a facial movement. He may as well have been a snake. His only real response was more claws toward his adversary. Time to spill blood. Time to reap a soul.

Letting out a hiss at his claws making contact with her muzzle, she made sure to not take too much time before reacting back. Rushing forward, she slashed paws full of sharp claws at her opponent's exposed soft underbelly with her hind legs before backing up again. She couldn't let this foxheart be threat to her clan, she just couldn't.

Wraith had been expecting something different from the she-cat. What exactly? He didn'y know, but it certainly was not for her to roll, lash out with hindlegs, then continue to roll until she was on her feet again. It was rather impressive. He took the blow, surprised at her strength, but nonetheless, he refocused his gaze on her quickly. She was backing up. Too bad cats weren't as fast backward as they were forward. He bolted passed her and moved to clamp down tightly on her tail and give it a yank to pull her backside to the mud.

Yowling at the sudden sharpness that was sent up her tail, Tulipfang was dragged backwards. Digging her claws into the soft, gooey ground below was no use and mud oozed between her pawpads. Great StarClan, how was she going to get out of this mess and better yet; how was she going to get this mess out of her fur?

She was stunned. Good. Wraith moved in to attack again with his front claws, seeking to rend open her flesh and sever muscles from bone. If he could at least weaken her that much, then he could cut a jugular vein and then be out in no time at all.

Getting up as quickly as she could, the mud-coated warrior knew she needed to fight back and fast. Pushing herself up on her hind legs, she pummeled the tom's muzzle with paws full of sharp claws. Hopefully that'd help her chances if she wanted to protect her clan... or better yet; make it out of this alive.
