Underestimating may be your downfall

Brightpaw had felt the need to escape the busy camp. Emberspark was on patrol, and they had already finished their training for today. They had been sparring, and Brightpaw had enjoyed doing something new. However, she now felt the need to practice more, but wasn't in the mood to train with the other older apprentices, in fear she might make a fool of herself when they beat her. She found her paws taking her to where she had her first hunting session with her mentor. They had hunted here many times after, and it was a nice place to sit and think, far enough away from camp to not be disturbed, with a clear view of the sky.

She had not been sitting there long when an unfamiliar scent blew towards her on a soft summer breeze.

It didn't seem to be a ShadowClan scent, but it was definitely a cat. WindClan? ThunderClan? Rouge? No matter who it was, she was ready. Whoever it was was trespassing, and they needed to learn a lesson. Slipping behind a tree, she lay in wait.

Twig leapt down from the branch of a tree, her brown eyes narrowed, as she could smell another cat. The brown tabby she stepped out into the light. She was young, but smart enough to know that that clan cat wouldn't help her...

(Ooc: btw, you can annoy twig into attacking by calling her 'kit,' 'weak,' 'young and stupid,' and others)

Brightpaw nearly jumped when she saw the source of the strange scent. As she had predicted, it was a rouge cat, but one that looked no older than her, maybe not even old enough to be an apprentice. She quietly sighed with relief, as she had been hoping that the cat would either be younger than her or poorly trained. Lucky for her, this kit seemed to be both these things. Stepping quietly, she padded around the edge of the clearing before stepping into the light. She sat down and swept her tail across her paws. It would be more fun to aggravate this tiny she-cat rather than to make the first move. "Hello kit, what brings you here, onto ShadowClan territory? Do you realise you're trespassing? I would leave if I were you, we don't want a little kit getting hurt, do we." Patronising, just like her grandfather had done to her so many times: first aggravate, then punish for any retaliation. In truth, she was doing the kit a favour by teaching her a lesson.

"Kit this! Kit that! I'm no kit and you clan cats should've learned that by now!" Twig hissed, her high-pitched voice making it sound funnier. Twig had a scar along her side, suggesting she had been in a battle before.

Brightpaw smiled slightly. Young and easily provoked. "If you say so then," she replied, trying to hide her laughter and sound sincere. She rose to her feet, and took a few steps forward to face the tabby she-kit. Even though she was still an apprentice, she was nearly full grown, and would be able to rest her head on the rouge's. Looking down at her, she continued, "My names, Brightpaw, and you're still trespassing." With little warning, she pulled her lips back in a snarl and ran at her, knocking her to the ground. She had practiced the move with Emberspark, but the rouge's small size made her much easier to knock over.

She rolled back onto her paws. Her pupils turned to slits as she bared her small, sharp teeth. She charged forward. She reared up on her hind-legs and slashed over and over and over, making sure that she could see blood on her claws before she backed down. "Who's the kit now?" She laughed.

Twig used Rear-up to slash, using 15 SP and dealing 11 damage!

The rouge's claws slashed at Brightpaw, and she cursed to StarClan, angry at herself for underestimating her. She was now fairly badly injured, and, no matter how much she may want to, knew that it would be a bad idea to become too badly hurt and be stuck out here by herself. No one back at camp would need to know she lost easily to a younger rouge. In one last feeble attempt to chase away the intruder, she lashed out with an unsheathed forepaw, before shouting "Leave my territory, you may have one this time, but don't underestimate ShadowClan!" She then fled into the forest, blood stains clear against her bright white pelt. Once she was far enough away, she sat down to clean her wounds. One of them near her shoulder was small but deep, and she had a sneaking suspicion that it would scar. Fine, let it scar, she thought, it will help me remember how much I need to improve.

She would find her again, one day when she had improved. The brown rouge needed to pay for Brightpaw's embarrassment.
