Bloodpaw smiled and came out of hiding. "Strong work." he complimented her. "I missed my first leap at a squirrel. I had to chase it through the trees." Bloodpaw remembered how great it felt when his father complimented him on his first catch. Smokepaw didn't really know him, but hopefully his encouragement made her feel good about herself.
"So do you want to take that to the fresh kill pile or do you want to hunt some more?"

"Thanks," Smokepaw mewed. "That was my first squirrel, actually..." She admitted. Something warm pricked under her fur, pride? Or mild embarrassment? Smokepaw hadn't expected the praise from the older apprentice.
"We could hunt a bit more, I think. Stash this and continue on?" She asked, gaze already scanning the area for a suitable spot. She wanted to make up for the lost sparrow earlier... And, not that she would admit it out loud, but Smokepaw wasn't minding spending time with Bloodpaw nearly as much as she thought she would.

Bloodpaw approached Smokepaw and gently took the squirrel from her.
"I can carry it while you try again." He offered. He might hunt one thing while he was out here, but Smokepaw seemed to be in high spirits and he wanted her to do well. Catching one thing was fine but catching two things would be better. Even if she missed the next one... well... it happened.
"Try smelling out your next target. I will quietly follow you." They could easily carry back two birds and a squirrel. He didn't want to just leave the squirrel laying around, or even bury it, since a fox or a hawk or something could easily find it and just take it.

"Alright," Smokepaw replied, allowing him to take the squirrel from her. The fluffy apprentice stepped aside and paused, testing the air. Distantly, she could smell the river, and her lips curled slightly in disgust. Had they moved that close to the border? Focusing past that, Smokepaw lifted her head and caught the sight of a sparrow nesting in one of the trees. She motioned to Bloodpaw with her tail, indicating that this would be her next target, then paused as another scent reached her, shooting him a questioning look.
**Goose** The goose was a ways from it's normal territory. It should be across the river, but somehow, it was here. It wanted very much to find it's way home, and instead found itself staring at two cats instead. Either the goose went, or they went, and the goose wasn't going to take the chance of them attacking first.
The flash of feathers had Smokepaw coming up short, long fur fluffing up in alarm as her eyes managed to make sense of the thing barreling towards them. and it was no owl, or eagle. "Bloodpaw, watch out!" She hissed. Fear and adrenaline coursing through her, Smokepaw gathered herself. This was a first, but she couldn't just sit and watch a clanmate be attacked! Unsheathing her claws, Smokepaw leaped.
What in the name of Starclan was a goose doing on Skyclan territory?
Goose Wing Bluff at Bloodpaw, -20sp for 10 damage. 40hp/110sp
Smokepaw Leap and Hold at Goose, -10sp for 6 damage. 20hp/70sp
-Effect dice 1 for the goose: 1,2,3 next attack on goose hits. 4,5,6 next attack on goose misses. -Effect dice 2 for Smokepaw, assuming 1 doesn't proc: 1,2,3 lasts 1 turn, 4,5,6 lasts 2 turns.
-Wing Bluff effect not activated -Leap and Hold lasts 2 turns
Smokepaw... actually landed on the goose. She wouldn't waste the opportunity she had found herself, and proceeded to sink her unsheathed claws into the the goose' back, raking them repeatedly through flesh.

So... things most certainly did not go as planned. Bloodpaw had happily been willing to carry the squirrel around for Smokepaw... then a flash of feathers and some pain. Bloodpaw had the squirrel knocked loose from his teeth and he even took a tumble himself. He sprang to his feet with his claws unsheathed. What... just happened?? Bloodpaw saw a weird... snakebird thing... a goose? Is that what that was called?
"Ow that hurt you skinny-necked-" Bloodpaw leaped forward, a ferocious yowl ripping from his throat. While the goose was pinned, he ran in for a belly rake on the adversary. Once the adrenaline wore off, he would be feeling that wing smack.

Smokepaw continued to rake her claws through the goose' flesh. Bloodpaw was attacking the thing too, and goose let out an angry honk as it struggled beneath Smokepaw.
Smokepaw 20hp / 60sp
Goose 21hp / 110sp (still pinned from leap-and-hold)

Bloodpaw raked his claws once again down the goose while Smokepaw still had a good hold on it. The instant she lost her ability to hold it down, Bloodpaw had every intention of leaping on it and holding it down next. Until then, he would batter it with blows.
Bloodpaw used Front Paw Strike, dealing 6 damage and -10SP
Finally, the goose managed to twist and shake the irritating furball off its' back. The cat had done a fair bit of damage, and now the goose wanted to retaliate, while hopefully avoiding further damage. Wings raining heavy blows onto Smokepaw, the she-cat snarled and twisted away from the goose. She lashed out with a forepaw in response.
Goose Wing Bluff at Smokepaw, -20sp for 10 damage. 15hp / 90sp | (110-20sp)
Smokepaw Front Paw Strike at Goose, -10sp for 6 damage. 10hp / 50sp | (60-10sp, 20-10hp)
-Effect dice for Goose: 1,2,3 next attack on goose hits; 4,5,6 next attack on goose misses -Smokepaw missed!
Fox-dung, Bloodpaw was right. The bird's wings hurt. A muffled grunt of pain could be heard as Smokepaw's strike missed when a wing connected painfully with her shoulder. That was definitely going to leave a mark, she thought.
Bloodpaw had had enough of this. As Smokepaw went to strike the goose and missed, it gave Bloodpaw a perfect opening for his own move. His clan mate was out of the way... time to rend the flesh from this bird's bones. He charged as fast as he could and leaped for it... Bloodpaw crashed hard into the goose and immediately began to tear away at already injured flesh. He would bleed this goose to death or pull out it's organs, but it would not win the battle today regardless of the outcome.
Bloodpaw used Leap and Hold on Goose, dealing 12 of damage and - 10SP Goose is stunned for 2 turns!
The pleasure from catching her first squirrel had faded as they fought the goose, and Smokepaw would've been much happier without it spoiling a hunt. She took another swipe at the goose, feeling somewhat gratified as her claws met flesh this time. With Bloodpaw now pinning the stupid bird down, it was becoming clear that the bird wasn't going to limp away from the fight it started, and honestly, that was perfectly fine by Smokepaw.
Smokepaw Front Paw Strike to Goose. -10sp for 6 damage. 10hp / 40sp (50 - 10sp)
Bloodpaw took his weight off the goose once he was sure it was dead. He and Smokepaw were a little bruised up, but they would be fine otherwise. He looked at her and gave a smile.
"Well that was exciting." He laughed at her. He grabbed the goose by the neck and gave it a tug. It would be difficult, but he could drag this back to camp. "You carry your squirrel, I'll drag this back. I think we should call it for the day. I'm supposed to attend to the elders, I just took a short break." Well, it was supposed to be shorter. He started hauling the goose in the direction of camp. He couldn't wait to see the look on everyone's faces.
"We should walk in like nothing out of the ordinary happened and just add this to the fresh kill pile and walk away, looking bored." He said with a mischievous look.
