Kin and Country [closed]

The best hunting was done at dusk, before the sun shrunk under the mountain line, just as the prey in ThunderClan’s territory began returning to their own dens. Beecloud was hesitant to go alone, as the stony hollow had just become available to him recently with due caution. As an apprentice, the entire vicinity was forbidden; Beecloud being as nervous as he was, he never disobeyed that order. Cherryblossom had been a warrior for much longer than him, and in any case, he missed her. They were related by more than just blood, their very paws bore the same deformity that Beartooth had passed on to them. Their similarities transcended physical marks, as well. They got along rather nicely, much better than he did with Vixenpaw.

Her cream tabby coat was bright in the golden sun of late afternoon, her walk a light, easy trot. This was where their similarities ended. Beecloud lumbered to the tiny cat, meowing a short, informal greeting with thick tail held high. His intention was betrayed by his smile, made goofy and lopsided by his strange fangs. ”The stony hollow, my dear niece?” he teased, hip-checking her with a cackle. Though they were raised together, essentially as cousins, Beecloud made a point to hold his status as her uncle over Cherryblossom’s head. ”It’ll be good hunting, if you’re not already turning in!”

The late sun of the day cast warm golden rays into the camp, warming Cherryblossom's short fur as she basked, sprawled out on the edge of camp. She turned her head towards Beecloud and stood as he approached, grinning widely at her kin as he jokingly held his relation to her as uncle over her. She stumbled a little as his hip collided with hers, but she popped back up with a chuckle. She was glad that Beecould was now a warrior, she'd missed him after she'd left the apprentice's den after being made a warrior, and it was nice to share a den with him again. At his suggestion of hunting at the stony hollow, she nodded and chirped,
"Of course, uncle."

Beecloud's large paws were surprisingly nimble as he traversed the forest floor. He chose only the paths he could navigate with the least resistance, winding through ferns and bracken after the sweet scent of rodents big and small. The stony hollow off to his left, he veered after a robin, daydreaming about his own apprenticeship, when he spent most of his hunts chasing birds until he was too tired to leap. He shuffled closer before darting out, paws outstretched towards the robin.

The bird cried out before taking flight, slipping between Beecloud's claws. The tom grumbled. He was never very good at it, anyway. He heard the quiet sound of hissing under him. His stomach lurched and he reared onto his hind legs, yelling in alarm, but he was too late. The snake snagged his paw, beads of blood dripping out from it. He felt his knees go weak at the sight, tales of venomous serpents blinking at light-speeds through his mind. The snake did not look like the adders in ThunderClan territory... but it did look very mad. "Just my luck!" he groaned, shuffling backward to avoid another hit. "Geez, stop moving so fast!"

Cherryblossom was content to walk in comfortable silence with Beecloud as the pair meandered through the thick undergrowth in the forest that ThunderClan called home. Before long, the pair split off to hunt, and before the little tabby could even find a piece of prey, she heard the flutter of wings and a thump, followed by subtle hissing of an un-cat-like kind. Cherryblossom turned on a dime and raced back the few fox-lengths separating the pair, catching sight of the snake that Beecloud had accidentally disturbed. She darted forward and tried to pin the snake with her front paws.

The snake stayed still for just long enough for Cherryblossom to firmly pin her paws right behind its head, effectively rendering it immobile, and without hesitation, she dug all twelve of her front claws into the snake's neck. It quickly fell limp under her paws, and she gave it a quick nip on the back of the neck for good measure.

Cherryblossom used Upright Front Paws on the snake, costing 20 stamina, and dealing 11 damage. The snake is dead.

Beecloud winced in surprise as Cherryblossom dove through the bushes, landing on the snake with impressive accuracy. He gawked as she disposed of it, until the dull sting of his bite alerted him that he should probably check on it. It was a small puncture, nothing to really worry about given the size of the critter. He put more weight on his paw until he was certain it wouldn't hinder him. "I owe you so many squirrels for that," he huffed. "Why is it always me getting attacked out here?"

The large tom continued his trail through the area around the hollow, finding himself in an incredibly close vicinity to a fat, dull-pelted squirrel. He narrowed amber eyes upon the creature, shuffling his paws before lurching out at it. He swept out the chattering squirrel's legs, landing on top of it as it scrambled for footing and swiftly dispatched it. He smiled to himself at its weight as he returned with it to Cherryblossom. "Hey, how's Hickorypaw?" he asked, remembering that they were now both training apprentices. "Is she giving you a hard time?"

Kicking debris over the snake's body, Cherryblossom shrugged, flicking her tail.
"Don't worry too much about it, you would have done the same for me! And, besides, st least it didn't do too much damage."

At the question about Hickorypaw, she smiled and shook her head, responding with,
"Nah, she's honestly pretty great. Eager to learn, quick to learn, and generally just great to be around! I'm glad Nettlefire assigned me to be her mentor."

With that, she turned and returned to the hunt, slipping through the undergrowth with practiced ease. Shortly, squirrel scent crossed her nose, and she saw the creature scrabbling through the leaf litter a few fox-lengths away. She carefully approached it, careful to not alert it, and when she was close enough, she pounced. Sure enough, her aim was true, and she flattened the squirrel to the ground so fast that it didn't have time to squeal, and she quickly dispatched it with a quick nip to the back of the neck.

With her catch in her jaws, she returned to where Beecloud was, and put her catch with his.
