Mottledspark snorted and answered gruffly, "Ah, fightin' is fightin'. Tell your mentor ya want to focus on battle trainin'; they'll know what t' do. As fer fightin' dead cats, well..." He paused, thought, and then nodded and looked intently at Streampaw. "Here's what I can tell ya 'bout the dead catss: They've forgotten what it is t' be alive, and so they've forgotten the real meanin' of the code, but they've forgotten more than that. They've forgotten what it is t' die. They think they're immortal 'cause they can't be harmed in the stars. They moved their battlegrounds, though." His eyes flashed dangerously. "Just train hard an' be ready. That's the most anyone can do."

Mottledspark's tail waved slightly to signal for peace, sending a shower of sparkling stars off into the darkness that began to grow around them. He answered, "Don't be afraid, Streampaw, you're just goin' home. It was a pleasure to meet you. Be brave, be strong, and... be loyal." Then he was gone.

Streampaw blinked, only to find herself on the cold, stone floor of the cave. She was still lying down, wondering if that whole meeting with Mottledspark was a dream.
