Emberkit’s Apprentice Ceremony

Thank the stars- the real ones, not the ones who had caused this, that most of the apprentices and kits were okay. Ravenmist stood atop the rock, calling her Clan for the promotion of yet another young cat. “Let all cats well enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Jaggedrock for a Clan meeting.” It was a slight change to the customary words, but the blind deputy deemed it appropriate.

Emberkit bounded out of the nursery. He didn't quite know what was happening, only that a lot of cats had caught a bad sickness, and he didn't have it. Maybe this meeting is about the sickness? I dunno. The dark tabby sat beneath the Jaggedrock, barely even noticing the change in words.

Ravenmist flicked an ear, beginning to speak. “Emberkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and the time has come for you to be apprenticed. From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Emberpaw. I will mentor you.” She dipped her head in the direction of the young tom, padding off down the rock to meet him. “You’ll do great, I’m sure.”

Emberkit gasped as Ravenmist jumped down from the Jaggedrock. Woah! The deputy! He nodded vigorously. “I promise, Ravenmist! I’ll do everything I can!”
