Fernkit bounded out, today was the day she learned to swim! She maneuvered around the grasses and to the river. How was she gonna get by this? The little she wondered.

Streampaw was swimming in the river, paws churning in the water. The river was slightly higher than usual, but that didn’t really worry her. Streampaw loved swimming. She loved to feel the water sliding across her fur and the feeling of something cooling beneath her paws. Streampaw saw a little she cat on the edge of the river, and decided to call out. “ Hello, what are you doing here?” She asked.

"I can be your teacher," Willowpaw said, walking toward Fernkit, "but you have to be very careful, to make sure you don't get swept away in the current." She nodded toward the river.
"I shouldn't teach you everything, you should leave that up to your mentor," she told her, "but I can at least teach you the basics."

Willowpaw lowered herself into the water, relieved to find it not very cold. She motioned for Fernkit to do the same.
"Come in, the water's really nice."
She positioned herself so that if Fernkit slipped, the current would push her into Willowpaw, and she wouldn't be washed away.

She nodded, she cautiously approached the water, she didn't want what happened to repeat itself! She wadded into a shallow part of the river and mimicked the two apprentices. "Like this?" The little she asked.
