Be Careful Where You Tread [Closed for Grizzly]

Applepaw had been basking on the Sunningrocks, and he looked beyond. Curiously, he walked into a new area, and that is how he found himself in he forest of Thunderclan. Not realizing it, he shuffled around loudly, looking at the trees, and seeing a completely different kind of territory. He was enraptured by the forest, something new. Although, it was laced with a strange scent. It was cat, but not Riverclan. Most noticeably, the place lacked in the aroma of fish, a familiar smell for the ginger tom. The lack of aquatic smell made Applepaw feel slightly uneasy in this unfamiliar place. But his curiosity took over as he ran from tree to tree, looking around and exploring. No cats where around as he could hear! It would be quite obvious, hearing the loud noises the forest made. At least, that was what Applepaw believed. He forgot that Thunderclan had skills such as treading quietly in the forest. Unaware of any other cats, he ran around, watching the birds fly. This was a new, fun game to the apprentice.

Beepaw took a large whiff, hunting for the smell of rodents in the dense underbrush that was forming on the forest floor as Newleaf began. When the smell hit his nose, however, it was distinctly... fishy. His patrol was too far from the river for it to smell so pungent, wasn't it? He narrowed his eyes curiously as he followed the foreign smell. Stalking through the territory, he kept himself downwind. He half suspected the smell to be some kind of walking fish-creature of legend. What other reason could there be for such a misplaced scent trail? Peering out of the bushes, he saw a strange ginger tom slightly smaller than himself. He didn't recognize the cat, and not even his scent was recognizable. With a gasp, Beepaw realized that the fishy smell came from the apprentice padding through ThunderClan territory... a RiverClanner!

Beepaw was torn. He looked tentatively over his shoulder, where the rest of his patrol hunted. If he let the apprentice go, he would get in trouble with them. Not only would his clanmates punish him, but there was a chance of some divine interference. He had heard the stories. He knew there were odd cats walking the forest these days. Beepaw was not a fan of getting in trouble. He shot out of the bushes like a monster, tackling his opponent and sending the pair rolling towards the RiverClan border. Beepaw landed on top and used his hulking strength to force Applepaw to the ground. "Hey, bumble-head! You're on the wrong side! Go home!"

Applepaw heard the apprentice drawing near, and as he was forced to the ground, he let out a hiss, struggling to get up. ”Calm down, minnow-brain! I’m not trying to do anything wrong! I’ll just go back.” ”Now go away and leave me alone!” he hissed, his large teeth showing. He wouldn’t make Applepaw struggled under Beepaw’s grasp. Applepaw regretted making the mistake of crossing the border. Never again would Applepaw stray so far. He hadn't realized the consequences that would come with it.

Beepaw began to let up, unhinging his claws from the RiverClanner's back, when he heard the distant sound of chatter and laughing. The patrol... he looked down at the ginger tom's fur and winced at what he would have to do. He threw his entire weight back into Applepaw's body, prickling his flanks with his six-toed paws.

"I can't do that! I'll..." he started. He couldn't admit that his real reason was getting in trouble, could he? "I'll... dishonor my clan! I can't back away now!"

Applepaw heard other cats nearby. ”So, do your clanmates know you are fighting me?” he asked, realizing that the apprentice might be breaking a few rules.  As Beepaw once again leapt onto Applepaw, he hissed. Finally, shaking him off and pulling himself off, Applepaw was ready to attack. He ran at Beepaw, tackling him onto the ground. ”Let’s finish this. Like warriors.” he said, staring into the tom’s eyes.

Beepaw let out a large gasp as Applepaw slammed into his flank and threw him at the ground. He was stronger than he looked. "The Code says to challenge trespassers, doesn't it?" he grunted, scrambling to get a hold on the tom's body. He swung his unsheathed paw at Applepaw, striking him in the face and feeling a slight tug. He had made his mark, and with the momentum Beepaw threw his assailant off. He took the spare moment to shake out his pelt. "I didn't think they were serious when they said RiverClan coats are slippery!"

Applepaw fell stumbled back as the tom struck his face. Pulling himself up, he rolled his eyes as the apprentice shook out his pelt. They weren’t slippery, where they? The ginger tom knew he wouldn’t last much longer in this fight. He was scratched up a little bit. He leapt down onto Beepaw, pinning him.

Beepaw watched the RiverClanner barrel towards him, seemingly frozen to the spot. The realization that the stranger was going to tackle him came swiftly, and he ducked to the side to avoid the blow. He moved too late, and Applepaw caught him as he was squashed. The squirming did nothing to free him. All he could think about was returning to his patrol, so he could hunt again...

Beepaw used Lightning Reflexes! It failed, and he did not escape the attack! Beepaw is pinned.

As Applepaw pinned down Beepaw, he watched as he squirmed, trying to get up. Holding him down again, he swiped at him face with his paw angrily. He wasn’t moving from his position. Here, Beepaw couldn’t really attack hi, back. This was one of the reasons being big was helpful.

Seizing his last chance to best the RiverClanner, Beepaw slammed his eyes shut and slashed his huge paws against the tom's flanks. Using the momentum from his attack, he rolled his opponent off of him and scrambled backwards. He was hesitant that the battle was really over, but by the way Applepaw looked, the winner was clear... but also close. Beepaw's sides stung with the impact of enemy claws, and he heaved to catch his breath. "You gotta go," the apprentice said through staggered breaths.

Applepaw let out a yowl as he felt the strike to his underbelly. Applepaw nodded blankly and started to head back to camp, limping. His body stung with the strikes from Beepaw. He winced with each step, he had gotten beat up pretty good. Lightstep would make such a fuss about him when he got home. But it did hurt. He finally reached camp and collapsed in the medicine den, his sides aching.
