What's lurking in the shadows?

Yellow eyes pierced out from the shadows tucked near the nursery as Coalkit examined the ThunderClan camp. Apprentices and warriors all milled about in the clearing, the heat of so many bodies congregated in one area chases away the shill of leaf-bare and kept the camp and dens a tolerable temperature. Coalkit wasn't fond of large crowds or numbers, but he couldn't complain as his shorter pelt didn't keep him the warmest in this cold season.

'Has leaf-bare always been this cold?' He wondered as he scowled, hunkering down and curling his tail around him to try and keep him sheltered and warm as a breeze drifted through the clearing, bringing with it the chill of the snow that surrounded the ravine. He silently cursed StarClan for allowing him to be born in such a harsh and cold season, wishing he had been a new-leaf or greenleaf kit instead. At least if he had been born in one of those seasons he would be bigger and would be an apprentice by now, so he could go out and get his body moving and keep himself warm by keeping his blood pumping. Being a kit and inside the camp doing the same song and dance grew boring and stagnant.

'My apprentice ceremony might be soon, but not soon enough,' The young tom thought with a deep scowl curling his lips.

Daisykit stood up, hearing the voice of another kit. She padded towards him. As she got closer,she recognized him as Coalkit. He didn’t seem to be happy. She realized his thin pelt might not keep him warm. She shivered with that thought. Her fluffy, cream colored pelt provided her with much warmth during the colder seasons. “Hello Coalkit.” She mewed, standing next to him.

Coalkit blinked his eyes slowly as he glanced up at Daisykit who now stood beside him and scowled. He was not one for conversation, keeping most away from him with his bitter attitude and near constant scowl. Most the time just the look on his face even had warriors steering clear of the kit. Conversations made him uncomfortable, having attention on him made his pelt prickle and he'd rather others didn't pay him much mind. He was comfortable hiding in the shadows. "Hello Daisykit," He mewed flatly as he turned his gaze back out to the camp. "How are you today?" He supposed he should show some manners, though the words tasted bitter on his tongue.

She backed away apprehensively. “I’m ok. S-Sorry.” She mewed, not wanting to hurt his feelings. She sat back down, her paw trembling. “I didn’t mean to annoy you.” She said softly. She self-consciously curled up in a corner, embarrassed. Her paws laid over her face. She still felt like she was so young and annoying, even though her apprentice ceremony would be happening soon. Whenever she felt that anyone was annoyed with her, she felt like she was two moons old.

Coalkit watched her and blinked, heaving a sigh as she she-kit went and curled in the corner. Annoyance bit at him but he shoved it down as he flung a ball of moss towards Daisykit, attempting to be playful. "Everything annoys me, you're fine," He muttered as her blinked his ember eyes at her. "I'm not one to talk a lot, I tried to be polite by asking how your day is going." He watched as she trembled and hid behind her paws, unsure what to say to calm her or soothe her as he wasn't one to offer much comfort.
