Starclan Oh Starclan

How do your characters feel about Starclan?

I was thinking about this today after the whole Lichenmask debacle and how mine feel...

Beartooth understands they exist and respects that fact, but he doesn't have much respect for them and simply values the warrior code and his clan over everything. (He was there for the Lichenmask plot and the rest weren't)

Houndheart knows they're real but really doesn't care.

Basilpaw knows them and believes they're good boyes and gorls

Arc/Patrick just has a neutral opinion on them but respects they're real and exist

What about your kibbens??

Oak has a thorough belief in them. He knows they exist and is convinced that they led him home. Any cat who does bad deeds in starclan’s name is of the dark forest.

Grouse: ... well he got trained by one and taught how to dig, but he has a neutral stance.

Nightpaw: soooooo they just stand around in the stars? Or what? (Thinks they are relatively useless up there)

Honey is complicated. I think she believes in them and will easily talk about how great they are, but is a part of her that wonders why such terrible things happen. But along with how she buries her feelings of grief most of the time, she also buries her doubts in StarClan because she sees no good in that. Believing that they cause the good is good enough, she just...Tries not to wonder how they let the bad things happen as well.

I honestly have no idea about Fox. He most certainly believes in them and is prone to 'swearing' to them in moments of panic (which he has...A lot. 'Oh Stars' 'Dear StarClan...' ect.) I think he is just kinda confused on how to feel about them, kinda going along with how everybody else does. He isn't certain how much power he thinks they have but he also isn't planning to like...Ever actually deal with StarClan so he just doesn't think about it. He will let the medicine cats and leaders worry about that, he just wants to live his life without worrying about if StarClan can actually call clouds to block the moon on Gatherings that grow hectic.

Flint was never really raised in believing them - Thorn doesn't have much faith and so he doesn't as well. He knows they exist but doesn't believe they hold that much power. They aren't the ones that decide how things go here. The world is cruel, but it isn't their doing. Not even the good things are their doing, they are simply observers as far as he cares. Other than granted the leader their lives, that is about as much power that he actually believes that they hold in the living world.

Raventail believes in their existence and knows they’re important to some cats; beyond that, he wishes the forest would take their word a little less seriously, and lowkey feels they could have done something about the flood and/or WindClan’s beast situation

Lightfang believes in and trusts his ancestors utterly, a trust reinforced by what he heard at his Moonstone and the events that drove him away from SkyClan, though by this point he’s beginning to wonder just how much of this they knew about all along

Mudfrost doesn't think about them enough to really have an opinion beyond knowing they exist, though talking to them face-to-face weirds her out a little

Leopard believes in StarClan but doesn't really respect them as an entity; he more so knows that the great heroes he looks up to are up there, and if he prays he's praying to them, not StarClan as a whole.  The rest of the cats aren't his concern. Other than that, he'll swear to them, but they don't have much of a presence in his everyday life.

Sedge believes deeply in StarClan but expresses it in unique ways.  For example, she believes that every living creature goes to StarClan, even prey and predators.  Cats who don't believe or don't know go there as well, but clan cats in StarClan just don't run across them.  Sedge refuses to believe that anything - even plants - are truly gone when they die, and that they all live on in the stars.  It helps her cope with having to kill.  She doesn't put them on a pedestal though; she believes that simply dying doesn't make you any wiser or kinder than in life, so she doesn't revere them as moral figures.

Ivy's belief in StarClan is by-the-book, like everything else in her life.  She reveres them as the highest authority, whatever they say goes, and thus she has great respect for medicine cats and leaders as the conduits to their knowledge.  She always thanks StarClan when she makes a kill or fights a battle, and prays for her clanmate's safety often.  Their word is law to her, and the concept of StarClan being flawed or wrong would be a very hard pill for her to swallow.

Spider believes strongly in StarClan and their power, which is only natural since he's an MCA. He has some doubts about their influence on the world, but he doesn't voice them and trusts that StarClan will lead him out of those doubts.

Golden is neutral towards them, though she does know that they exist. She's a little bit scared of the whole idea of StarClan, so she doesn't involve it in her daily life and generally does nothing more than acknowledge their existence.

Conifer believes in StarClan and tries his best to uphold their values, but doesn't think much of it if someone else actively hates or doesn't believe in them. He's not completely devoted to them, and most likely wouldn't have a problem with giving up on them if he had to.

Featherpaw is a devoted believer of StarClan, and fully acknowledges them and their existance. She probably prays to them all the time, asking for forgiveness she's not sure they'll grant, and knows that they guide those around her. However, perhaps her biggest fear is StarClan, as many cats she has hurt in the past now reside there. She's afraid of them, knowing that the day she does finally pass away, she'll be uncertain as to if she can truely face them.

Smokekit acknowledges the belief in StarClan, but isn't really much of a dedicated follower himself. He doesn't regard them much, doesn't care too much about how his actions may be judged by them; he's neutral and thinly bordering believing and not believing. Sometimes, he'll treat the concept as a make-believe fairytale told by warriors so that kits behave well - "don't be naughty or you won't go to StarClan!"

Vixenkit doesn't care whatsoever. She couldn't care less about the fabled ancestors in the sky above. "Whatever.. it's not like they can hurt you, or something..! I don't waste my time on that kind of fox-dung."

None of my current characters have had much time to develop, so these are more views they'll soon form rather than views they already have.

Petal fully believes in the existence of StarClan, as the fact that leaders have nine lives would be hard to explain otherwise, but doesn't believe they actually hold too much power or are as wise as everyone claims. He thinks that cats spend way too much time looking for signs from StarClan, and that the clans don't really need them to function. In short, he doesn't really care about their existence and doesn't hold much respect for them.

Bark holds a fairly neutral opinion on StarClan. Her thoughts about them are for the most part practical, acknowledging their existence and how they help the clans without any real emotional connection to them. Despite her usual tendency to overthink things, she just kind of takes StarClan as a given.

Sun doesn't really care about StarClan. She doesn't really see much use in worrying about them, and figures that she shouldn't spend too much time thinking about things that don't bother her. To her, death seems so far away that where she goes when she dies doesn't make too much a difference.

dustcloud has a very strong belief in starclan, believing that they truly led her home to her clan and her family. she is devout and loyal, basing most of her everyday life around starclan and what she believes that they would want her to do.

ivybrook knows they exist and acknowledges that they have power, but in her eyes, there have been too many instances where starclan has let her down completely for her to hold any faith or trust in them. the way she sees it, she trusted starclan once and they ruined that relationship many times over, meaning that they don't get any more chances.

i haven't had time to establish frecklepaw or briarkit's views on starclan, but based on their characters, frecklepaw will probably have good faith that starclan tries their best and that they will do everything within their power to better the clans. briarkit will probably have views a bit closer to ivybrook's, in which she'll realize that they exist, but she won't care for them at all, because why should some dead cats in the sky dictate her life?

Ravenmist has a deep faith in StarClan, and would totally be the mom to make her kids go to church on Haloween instead of going trick-or-treating and greatly respects them, though she’ll always put her family first.

Crowpaw believes in them, but doesn’t really hold them on a high pedestal or give them any more respect than he would his elders.

Wrenkit also believes in them, but that could very easily change. She’s not particularly devout and is prone to holding grudges.

Stormpaw hold StarClan in very high respect, being raised by Dustcloud and Oakstar, two firm believers. She believes that every thing happens at StarClan's will. Even the bad things. Without the bad, the clans wouod grow weak; in faith and in battle. She tries her hardest mot to swear in StarClan's name. Because of her unwavering belief, she holds medicine cats and leaders in huge respect.

Softkit firmly believes in them. Despite this, however, she acknowledges that some things are out of StarClan's control.

Downkit doesn't really care. Sure, they exist, but they're dead, and therefore don't control living cats. He acknowledges Softkit's belief. Contrary, he is known to challenge other cats about it; don't tell Softkit!

All my sons believe in them and have a strong trust in them, but of course occasionally question their methods, especially when death comes rolling around the corner so often, but they don't let that waver their faith.

Tulipkit on the other hand... she may question some things because that's how she is, not really sure yet.

Amberwing:
As Amberkit: "Starclan must be so happy! They're so pretty and well... Great!"
As Amberpaw: "Hmm, I don't really know... I guess they just deserve a rest but if they're so powerful wouldn't they have helped us? Through the tough times and all?"
As Amberwing: Yeah Starclan's there. Uh, they just can't help some things I guess.

Shadepaw:
Shade: "Stwarclwan? Nwevwer hweard wof wit!" (Starclan? Never heard of it!)
Shadepaw: Hmm, Shadepaw's tricky. She hasn't really had any topics about Starclan. She finds it hard to believe they're so great and all.

Treepaw has always been the same, though: He's a little unsure on what their purpose is but he believes in them

Spotlake: She deeply believes in Starclan as they helped her through her grief.
Lola: No she ded
Deerpaw: He knows they exsist but doesn't really care, since they can't do anything

Unborn Characther time!
Nightkit: "If i be bad i'll go to the Dank fowest and wot and I be evil and I won't have a sqiwwel an no feesh so I mwust e good!" Lets just say he goes to Church every Sunday.

Ferretnose is notoriously religious and a little bit of a follower, so she does not care to question StarClan and she lets them into every part of her life. She often prays and asks for them to guide her paws. She is devout and a strict follower of the code... but, as we all know, she hates the sin and loves the sinner.

Aspenheart is a lot less flowery about it. He understands that they are ancestors, flawed and misunderstood at times, and that it's up to him to sift through the crowfood and find the pieces that actually matter to WindClan. He interprets the Code more than he follows it, and he wholeheartedly believes he can handle the worldly matters by himself. Leave the dead to the dead and the living to the living.

Arno is on his way out, but he likes the comfort of knowing he has somewhere to go. Well, so long as they'll take him. Has he repented enough? After all, Tanglekit might be happy to see him one day...
