Contrary to Popular Belief, Theft Is A Crime [CLOSED]

Cardinalcry padded through the pine forest, patrolling on her own before faintly scenting rogue. She lifted her head and sniffed. Was it stale?

A few days had passed since Nikita's encounter with the too-friendly forest cats. Their smiles were still engrained into his mind, and the loner rolled his eyes and thought of what parents they must have had to make the two cats act that way. Kittypet... He thought to himself, massive paws crunching over the nettles as he roamed under the pines. Today his paws had taken him to the far side of the forest. A vast expanse of frozen marsh and sparse trees. The scenery was something to marvel at, and Nikita determined it would be best to approach his journey in a ruled fashion. He would slowly traverse over the waters, and explore the high hills next.

Part of his weary mind thought of Mossbloom and her skill with rabbit food. The large tabby would never admit it, but the revolting poultice she had given him seemed to soothe his old bones. The blue-gray tabby was more boring and reserved. The tom could easily take him in a fight had his leg not been wounded. The loner growled as he sought to push the thought of battle from his mind. It had become a habit and had ingrained itself into his heart as his scars were laced over his pelt.

The sky was white with the coming snow, and Nikita fluffed up his long pelt, looking twice his massive size. Perhaps he'd catch a bird today. Not a scrawny bird from the twolegplace, but a real forest bird. With meat on its bones. Following the expanse of trees, Nikita cut through the cattails until he split into a wet clearing. A few mice scuffled under some leaf mulch, gray bodies wet in the dewy morning. Nikita was not one to be picky. A mouse would do. Stalking carefully over the glassy ground, the loner leapt from his spot and landed heavily on the small creature, killing it from force of impact.

Green eyes narrowed, Nikita sat where he had landed and began to tear into the small creature, muzzle bloody. A crunch in the nettles raised his head, ears swiveling to catch the sound. A ginger she-cat padded from the bushes and Nikita put a paw over his prey, claiming it for himself. "Get lost scrap." He hissed, fur rising. "Zis is my catch." No fire-faced kitten was going to steal his food.

Cardinalcry's ear flicked. Could she take down this rogue? Who knew? She stepped forward. "You're on Shadowclan territory, stranger." she said, surprisingly calmly, and ran at the tom, slashing at his underbelly.

Nikita lunged upward in surprise as the ginger she-cat sprinted towards him. He didn't expect such a small morsel to move so fast, but soon her claws had taken advantage of his upright position and sunk into his belly, causing the loner to hiss in pain. Angry now, Nikita let gravity pull him downward, his weight sinking into the smaller cat as he pinned her to the ground. "Now ze mouse will be cold!" He hissed, pressing her face into the dirt with a massive paw. "Leave me be!"

Nikita ignored the ginger tabby's strained response, green eyes narrowing as he now fought for isolation. He had been too quick to assume the cats of the clans would be soft. This one he could take easily, but he did not wish to hurt her. Too much blood had been spilled at his paws already. Too many lives lost. Nikita was not a sentimental cat, and he had never been a glutton either. Too much of anything was always a bad sign. Hence why the elderly tabby now found himself in the forest.

"Just valk away!" Nikita hissed, letting the cat out of his pin and pummeling her face with his paws instead. "It's just a mouse!" Morals aside, the loner needed to eat.

Nikita's legs fell from under him as the scrawny she-cat sat on top of his frame. The loner wouldn't lie, his wounded hindleg still hurt from his excursion in the twolegplace, so much so that it almost felt easier to lie in the marshes. "You talk too much." The massive tabby grumbled, sitting stubbornly, waiting for the ginger cat to come down from her metaphorical high-tree. Clan cats, he had learned, were very different than those in the city. Perhaps he would oblige her attempts at battle and lay still in the dirt until she had calmed her clan-talk. It was almost suiting, a fine rest for an elderly cat.

Cardinalcry continued to claw at him. "You steal too much," she countered.

The tom grumbled at the ginger she-cat's counter, growing tired of becoming a dirt-soaked stump. He had played her game long enough, and would submit to her pleas had he not been a stubborn cat. Their fight was no longer about the silly mouse, it was a match between an unstoppable force and an immovable object. He was a large tom, with long claws and countless scars. He was the great Nikita, killer of Feliks, scourge of the Twolegplace, terror of the night. And now he was a stool for a chittery she-cat. "Alright enough!" He barked, surging onto his paws, throwing the she-cat into the grasses. "If we are going to fight, we fight for real." The loner widened his stance, glaring into the ginger she-cat's eyes with determination and a hint of mischief. "Come on, squirrel-cat, hit me."

Nikita is no longer pinned.

Cardinalcry tumbled but landed well, ready for any new attack. She reared onto her hind legs to attack, clawing. "If you would just leave, we wouldn't have to do this!"

Nikita had no words to answer the she-cat’s hiss. Instead he powered through the slashing claws aimed at his face, green eyes sealed as more lacerations were torn into his scars. It was all subjective. He had come to the forest for peace, yet Nikita refused to lay down who he was. The fire of battle instilled itself within him once more. It was his lifeblood, his purpose. And he wanted his mouse. Letting his massive weight drop into the grass, Nikita let the ginger cat fall on top of him with momentum. He sunk his claws into her soft underbelly, surging upward to finish the blow. Forest cats were too submissive in battle.

Cardinalcry bit down on the rogue's tail and jerked it with all her might. No rogue was going to invade the land she'd worked so hard to prove she was worthy of living in. She was Shadowclan. She was not a rogue anymore, and she would defend that. Even after all she'd done, she still felt the need to prove herself. Defeating a rogue and scaring it off seemed like a perfectly good way to do that.
