Light In The Dark (Post-birth)

For the first time, Ravenmist had grown to resent kits. Her kits. But, then again, there had been a lot of firsts lately. She was shifting, changing, from a cat too shy to defend herself, into a more confident warrior, seeking justice for her Clan. It was what her father would have wanted. SkyClan would be brought to justice, but the growing kits in her belly had kept her from patrolling, fighting.

That washed away once they were born. Three beautiful, healthy kits, hers and Daisyflame's. Two she-kits and a tom, all a perfect mix of her and her mate, she was sure. She bent her head down, calling to the ginger tom, like she had the first time. "Daisyflame, come meet your kits!"

Having been pacing around outside the nursery for what felt like an eternity, Daisyflame was summoned into the dimly lit den.

Entering, a purr erupted from deep within his throat and he took a seat by Ravenmist. Leaning down, the large tom nudged the Queen's cheek with his. "You did so well. They're beautiful and look just like us," he mewed to his blind mate. "What shall we name them?" he mewed. Having been worrying over Ravenmist and the whole kitting process, he hadn't really thought of any names himself and wondered if she had any ideas.

The small kit curled into his mother's warmth, trying to get comfortable. He'd get up and move around soon enough, but for the time being he needed his beauty sleep. Letting out an adorable kitten yawn, he flopped over more space than it seemed like his small body should be able to occupy, trying to relax. At the sound of his father's voice, however, he turned toward the new source of interest, his curiosity piqued.

A tiny she-kit, who had been sleeping soundly, grunted and shifted at the sensation of her brother rolling onto her in a bid for more space. She tiredly batted at his nose, missing and instead pawing her mother's side. That reminded her, she was hungry. The little curly eared kit slowly shook herself just awake enough to knead at Ravenmist's belly and begin suckling. Once she'd had her fill, she settled down again to sleep only to be roused again by a mysterious cat's arrival.

Ravenmist flicked her tail, sightless gaze tilted downwards. Memories of her apprenticehood crush and the future they could have had flooded back to her. “I’m not sure what they look like. But I’d like one to be called Hollowkit. I think you should have a turn naming the other two.” She chuckled softly as she listened to the tom-kit shift around. She was tired, but satisfied. Happy.

Hollowkit

Hollowkit wriggled closer towards her mother, absorbing her warmth. She could sense her siblings, and felt comfortable near them. She let out a soft mew before dozing off to sleep.

"A perfect name," Daisyflame purred reassuringly. "Hollowkit is white like me with some dark grey markings here and there, sort of like you, and I can already tell she'll have a long tail, which will be good for keeping her balance while hunting," he mewed, beginning to the explain to his blind mate what each of their wonderful kits looked like. The tom looks like me, white with ginger on his head and tail, and I'd like to call him Petalkit to resemble my own name. And then we have..." he paused, taking a moment to think of a name. "Goldenkit, to resemble her luscious, golden pelt," the large warrior finished with a nod. While the kits were still wet from their kitting, he could already tell that she would grow to have a beautiful golden pelt.

"They're all so beautiful, just like their mother," he purred, leaning down once more and giving Ravenmist a loving lick of affirmation on her dark pelted cheek.
