Elmskip awoke bright and early today, because today was his first day training his apprentices. Somehow he must have been put in StarClan's good graces as he received not just one apprentice, but two. Why Finchstar chose him of all cats to have two apprentices, he had no idea. All he knew was that there were too many apprentices and not enough warriors and something had to be done about it. Ever since his trip with Aspenpaw and other warriors to the Moonstone, he had been feeling a little better about himself and what he could do. Of course he still had his doubts, but the kind StarClan warrior that met with him had very encouraging words that left him in a better headspace than he'd ever been in.
Shaking his fur of any moss that may have been in it, he limped out of the warriors' den and across the camp to the apprentices' den. He was worried about doing a good job, since Finchstar obviously had a lot of trust in him. "StarClan give me strength..." he muttered under his breath as he neared the entrance to the den. He poked his head in, looking around through the darkness to spot the sleeping forms of Whisperpaw and Foampaw.
"Whisperpaw, Foampaw, it's time for training. Wake up and meet me at the entrance to camp," he called, trying to keep his voice down so as to not wake the other apprentices but loud enough that his apprentices could hear. Hesitating for a moment, the three-legged tom pulled his gaze away from the dark interior of the den and walked towards the gorse brush that marked the entrance. Elmskip sighed to himself and sat down, tail curling neatly around his paws and hiding his missing leg like always.
