Breath of Fresh Air [Hunting Topic]

She couldn't stand being in the camp any longer. Honeypaw shook her head as she padded through the territory, heading toward where she had been told the river laid. The air was still so thick with grief over Jaystar's death that she couldn't...She swallowed, sparing a glance over her shoulder as she sighed. She felt so useless, having no idea what to say to her father, to her Clanmates, even her mentor! She wanted to start training but it felt...Wrong to ask Hailsong to take her out on patrols when she was still grieving her fathers' loss. And so here she was, ready to teach herself how to fish. She sighed as she finally broke through the reeds, lips curling at the unfamiliar scent that she could smell from across the border. What was that? She frowned, scanning the bank as she ran through the name of the Clans in her head...Before she realized that what she had to be smelling was ThunderClan's border on the other side... Or was it SkyClan?

She pouted, glancing up and down the river as she tried to figure out where on the borders she was standing. It wouldn't be a problem if she had Hailsong with her, she could have expected her mentor to easily name the different Clans' scents so that she could memorize them...Honestly, she wasn't even suppose to be outside of the camp by herself. She could feel her heart ache at the breaking of such a small rule but she hadn't been able to bring herself to ask any of the warriors to take her out hunting or if she could tag along...She wanted to give them their spaces, they knew Jaystar much better than she did. She only felt the smallest pain at his loss while they felt as if their own hearts had been torn out, didn't they? She sighed, staring at her reflection as she turned her mind onto fishing...And started to slowly try to work out how she was suppose to get the fish.

Salmonpaw was still thoroughly convinced that he was still better suited for literally any other clan's territory. However though he may not be able to swim, Salmonpaw was good at hunting. Mostly. So he headed out of camp, finally feeling as if those around him trusted him enough to do so alone.

As he bumbled through the territory, Salmonpaw caught on to a fellow RiverClan's scent. Well, he may as joining them. Following his nose, the tom saw the outline of Honeypaw, staring at the water. Swallowing his nervousness, Salmonpaw approached her. "I could uh, try an help you." He said nervously, taking a seat next to her.

Honeypaw nearly jumped at the sudden voice, nearly stumbling into the river before she caught her footing and turned to stare at him. Her raised fur quickly settled as she recognized him, a sigh escaping her as she glanced toward the river. She didn't know Salmonpaw well, she had never really spoken to him in the short few sunrises she had been an apprentice. She gave him a soft smile as she turned back to the river as he took a seat next to her, letting out a soft laugh. "That...Would be nice," she admitted, staring at her reflection. "Hailsong hasn't actually gotten around to teaching me things but...I mean, I don't blame her, with her father's death in all. I figured I could figure things out myself but..." she gave a shrug of her shoulders. "I don't even know where to start, to be honest."

Salmonpaw nodded, quite understanding the predicament she was in. "Well, to be honest, I haven't been a RiverClan apprentice long, so I'm not good much." He turned his attention back to the river, with the shadows looming under the water. "Firs, you just wai until there a shadow, then you just, strike!" With a flash, Salmonpaw lashed out his paw.

Luckily, his paw connected and a flapping fish landed on the bank next to them. Quickly, he bit behind its head and it stopped flapping. "See, it be just like that." He turned and glanced at Honeypaw, his ears flicked forward in eagerness.

"Still better than nothing," she responded with a twitch of her tail, glancing up at him before she paused a little at his words. Right, he hadn't been a RiverClan all of his life, had he? She didn't know the details and she quickly shook the thought from her head - it didn't matter right now what Clan he had been from, even if she could remember the details. For now, he was her teacher.

Her gaze flickered down at the water, watching the shadows weave beneath the surface of the water...Before blinking as Salmonpaw's paw shot into the water, scattering water droplets everywhere before he knocked a fish onto the bank next to them. Her eyes widen with surprise and wonder as he quickly ended its life, her whiskers twitching as she looked up at him. "That...Was amazing! I've never seen anybody hunt before," she cooed, before she looked down at the water.

Wait for the shadows, huh? She dropped into a crouch by the water's edge, peering over as she tried to make out the fishes. She doubted it was as easy as Salmonpaw was making it out to be but she took in a deep breath as she noticed one of the shadows growing closer and closer to the pair...Before she slowly and quietly raised a paw...And struck out toward the unsuspecting fish.

There was a moment of surprise when she felt her paw brush the sleek scales of the fish, nearly letting it go past before she caught herself and swiped it right out of the water. As it landed next to her and started to flop, she quickly stared at it with wide eyes. She...She had done it. "I did it!" she cried out, before she swiped out with her paw to end the fish's life. There was a moment of wonder as she just stared at the prey, a laugh escaping her. "Well, suppose you aren't that bad of a teacher, Salmonpaw," she said as she turned to look at him with bright eyes.
