Sorrelkit's Apprentice Ceremony

"Let all cat's old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!" the deputy called out. While he waited for everyone to gather he glanced around for the kit who were to be apprenticed today.

Redwing shepherded her son out of the nursery, giving his unruly fur a few licks so he was presentable. She'd thought her kits would stay kits forever... but here was Sorrelkit, ready to be an apprentice, ready to go and face the world. If only his father was here to see.... "I'm so proud of you," she purred quietly, before nudging him to the front for his ceremony. Had it really been so long ago that she was getting her own ceremony? Her own apprentice name and mentor? But here she was, with kits of her own. How strange.

Today was going to be a monumental day in the life of this kit. Well, he certainly wasn't going to be a kit for much longer. In a matter of heartbeats, he would be replacing his juvenile suffix with the well-renowned "-paw". The opportunity to learn and grow was right in front of Sorrelkit, and he wasn't going to pass up on this chance. He had done a fine job at keeping his excitement to a mere simmer, but, now, it was bubbling over the surface. This erupting volcano of elation glittered in his eyes as he scampered forward, being nudged to the front of the crowd by his mother. A purr escaped his jaws as he glanced back her, and put on a smile. It was a gentle, soft smile, but it radiated determination and hope. Hearing that Redwing was proud of him made his heart flutter. He managed to push down his excitement, needing to sit still during the ceremony. He lifted his gaze to stare up at the deputy, his presence of power gracing the camp. Today was his day.

"Sorrelkit step forward." he meowed while looking at the kit who were to be apprenticed today. After a few seconds he continued "You have reached the age of six moons and it's time for you to be apprenticed. Sorrelkit, from this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Sorrelpaw. Crowfur will be your mentor. I know he'll be able to pass down everything he knows to you.". Wildstrike smiled at the newly named apprentice and quickly looked around for Crowfur.

Crowfur stood up from where he had been sitting and padded over to the newly apprenticed Sorrelpaw. The dark-furred tom bent down to touch his nose with his then stepped back to fully look at the young tom. "I look forward to training you, young Sorrelpaw. If you work hard and make good choices, you'll soon find yourself in the warrior's den with your full name. Your training with me will begin at dawn so be well rested before then." The large warrior soon began to walk away, a genuine smile on his normally melancholy face.
