Training for Foxpaw (closed)

Entering the apprentice den, the tiny leader looked around until he spotted his new apprentice's pelt, in which he carefully tiptoed his way over to him. Prodding Foxpaw's side with a little faded grey paw, Tinystar let out a soft mew. "Foxpaw, wake up," he whispered. With that, he made his way out of the den and into the chilly, Leafbare air that engulfed the camp. Today, he'd take the younger tom to explore the territory and maybe get some hunting done afterwards.

Foxpaw looked up and blinked as his blurry eyes gradually returned normal. He sat up still drowsy from his name. “Training?” He asked, confused. “Oh yeah! I’m an apprentice now!” He stretched and followed his mentor out- yet he couldn’t ignore his belly grumbling. 

Glad he was so enthusiastic about being an apprentice, Tinystar gave his pelt a shake. "We'll be patrolling the RiverClan border today and hopefully get some hunting in as well. But first, how about you grab a quick bite to eat. I'll meet you by the entrance," he began with a smile made his way towards an opening in the tree line where he waited for Foxpaw.

Foxpaw nodded. "Okay!" He chirped and scampered off twoards the fresh kill pile. He pawed through the fresh kill. He dragged about every peice of prey out of the pile and it laid in another pile next to the spot where it was supossed to go. A juicey vole appeared at the bottom. "Oh I want that!" He gripped a large bird and flung it off of the vole, it landed near his mentor. He grabbed the vole and purred with delight as a little blood flowed into his mouth. He backed up and looked at the large pile of prey he had moved. Noticing Tinystar he squeaked with fear. "I-I'm sorry.

Waiting for Foxpaw to finish, the small tom gave a purr of amusement. "No need to apologize," he purred. Giving his pelt a shake, he made his way out of the camp entrance, knowing his apprentice would quickly follow. "We'll be patrolling the RiverClan border today and hopefully get some hunting in as well," Exiting camp, the small tom set a steady pace for the two of them, one that would give him enough time to chat with him about expectations and such before the actual patrol began.

"So, what can you tell me about RiverClan and it's borders?" he asked, wondering if the tom had any prior knowledge on their neighboring clan.

"Riverclan is over there!" He flicked his tail towards the RC border. "Those yucky cats eat fish and swim!" He snorted. He looked around the forest. ”Can I climb this tree?” He asked and without hearing a response hopped right up and slowly crawled up to the top of the tree. ”Wow I can see everything!” He gasped in amazement. He turned to go down and the branches shook a little. ”Uh oh” He proceeded to try to crawl down but made no progress. ”Tinystar?” He let out a shrill squeak of panic.

Chuckling at the apprentice's boastfulness towards the rivaling clan, Tinystar was surprised when his apprentice simple climbed up a tree before he was able to respond. Great StarClan, Foxpaw sure was full of energy and he commended Tigerleaf in nursing such a little of rambunctious kits.

Making his way to the base of the tree, he should've assumed that the young tom wouldn't know what to do once at the top. "Don't panic!" he called up to Foxpaw, though they were obviously past that point. "Just climb down head first and let your claws do the work! It's not too bad once you're half way down, you can do it!" he mewed with a smile, hoping the apprentice did what he was told this time.

Foxpaw took a gulp. He unsheathed his claws and tried to extend them father than they could go. He hopped onto a close branch and spotted another one. He pushed off a little too hard and aimed for a thin branch. As he landed with his front legs out streched his claws slipped off of the branch of either side of it. He landed nose first onto the branch then his hind legs fell in a mess on top of him, he let out a gasp as his back legs started to slip off sideways. He dragged his claws firmly into the trunk as he turned around and blood dripped from his nose. But he was too late. The weight of his body hanging by his claws on the trunk was too much. He let out a squeal of pain as one of his claws ripped out- and then he fell. He plummeted to the ground. His body hitting every sharp branch before he landed on his side with a loud thud at the base of a tree.

With a gasp, Tinystar made haste and scampered over to his apprentice who'd fallen a good height from the tree. Great StarClan, please don't let him lose another cat from falling. If only Foxpaw hadn't been so quick to climb up with out proper knowledge of climbing, or maybe if only he'd been a better mentor and taught his apprentice sooner, though they'd only just begun their training and didn't think a simple patrol could end up to be so dangerous.

"Foxpaw, Foxpaw!" the little leader mewed, prodding the apprentice's side with one of his stubby white paws. The movement of younger tom's side gently rising and falling sent a wave of relief to be washed over him, but even so, who know if there was any internal damage.

Foxpaw lay still, he let out a cough as the wind was knocked out of him. His eyes lay closed and his paw throbbed. He had ripped out a claw and bonked his head but otherwise he was fine.

Glad to see that Foxpaw just seemed to be a bit dazed, Tinystar placed his muzzle under the young tom's side and helped him sit up. "While we were just getting started, I think that's enough patrolling for today. Let's get you back to camp so Mintwhisker can take a look at you," he mewed, concern still coating his voice. While Foxpaw didn't seem to have any external injuries, a concussion was always possible and he didn't want to push his apprentice, if that was the case.

Foxpaw slowly got up with his mentors help. He lifted up his paws and inspected it. O-okay. I’m sorry Tinystar, I was a fool.” He hung his head as he got up faced his mentor.

"It's alright, every-cat makes mistakes. I'm just glad you're alright," he mewed softly and the two began heading back to camp. Hopefully, he was right in saying that his apprentice was fine and didn't have any internal injuries.
