A Pun-derful Time

Well. Another day, another pointless fight for survival. Honestly, though, what was the point of continuing this all? It was just the same exact thing over and over again: wake up, hunt, patrol, fight, lose a loved one, sleep, repeat. It was growing dull, boring, and too much to take for much longer. If only there were a way to just... change something. Give the Clan something new and exciting. Nothing like death or destruction or anything like that. Like... Like a change to the entirety of ShadowClan life.

Oh, well. There wasn't anything he could do about it. And why bother trying to change anything when, at the end of the day, it would all be the exact same thing the next day, the next moon, the next season, the next year? Honestly, the only reason why he's still going is for the sake and hope that Poppyheart would return one to ShadowClan one day. Once he had his brother back, he knew everything would start being okay again.

But for the time being, he knew he had to do some work. He didn't want to, but it would be much better than sleeping around all day, being haunted by the monsters of his nightmares every time he slipped into unconsciousness. He'd rather not have to deal with anymore screeches of cats or raging infernos.

Slipping out of the warriors' den, he padded towards the camp entrance, his mind set on hunting and trying to forget about all his woes.

The new voice behind him caught Asterspark's attention, and he looked behind him to see Thornbriar approaching. He barely knew her at all, as she had gone missing from ShadowClan before he was even born. He didn't even know she had been part of the Clan when she first showed up again. Nevertheless, he supposed there would be no reason they couldn't go hunting together. He offered her a lazy grin, but his one good eye seemed to glint with mischievousness. "Sure, just so long as ya promise not t' be a thorn in my side. But, honestly, I'd be a briar if I said I don't want any company."

Snickering softly at the molly’s miffed expression, Asterspark followed close behind her, keeping quiet for the time being. That is, until they approached the marshes. He looked out over the marshlands, noticing the thin blanket of fog laying over it, and his whiskers twitched. ”Well, would ya look at that. It’s lookin’ a bit froggy out there. Bet we’ll find lots of lizards and fogs out there, though. Whadaya think, Thorny?” He shot Thornbriar a cheeky grin and a side-glance, his tail swishing languidly in mischievous content.

Asterspark only grinned a bit wider at Thornbriar's irritated response, not shaken at all by her borderline hostility. He decided to leave it be for a little, just until he caught something. Sniffing around, he found a frog sitting on a rock a little ways into the marsh. Crouching, he silently stalked towards it, wading through the muddy water without making a sound, but just before he could reach it he heard a snarl behind him. Whipping around, fur fluffing up, he stared through his one good eye at the russet-furred fox that stood nearly on top of him. Apparently the predator was just as good a stalker as the tom was. His ear twitched back when he heard the frog give a startled squeak before plopping into the marsh and swimming away. "Well, fox, I hope you're hoppy for costing me my catch now." With a furious grin, he yowled, trying to intimidate the fox and alert Thornbriar of the predator, and he lashed out his claws at its muzzle.

The fox let out a small yelp at the feeling of harsh claws tearing across its muzzle, and it shook its head vigorously before wiping a muddied paw at it. Then, it rounded back on the cat before it and snarled viciously before lashing out to bite down hard on whatever it could reach. The cat had tried to dodge, but it still managed to bore down its fangs on the end of its prey's tail, and it almost seemed to grin when it heard the cat shriek in pain.

Fox used Iron Bite on Asterspark, dealing 30 damage and costing 20 stamina.

Asterspark yanked his tail away from the fox's grip with a hiss of pain, and he looked over at Thornbriar, offering her a pained grin. "H-Heh, thanks, Thornbriar." It was too dangerous to lighten the mood with jokes, and he knew that. Without another word, he turned back to the fox and scooped up a pawful of mud from the bottom of the marsh, then flung it at the brute's eyes, causing it to howl in pain.

Asterspark used Mud Slap on Fox, dealing 6 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Now that the fox was beginning to whimper more than growl, starting to lose its ability to fight two cats at once, Asterspark decided to deal the final blow, lashing out his claws once more at the predator's muzzle. It wailed, giving up the fight, and turned to flee.

Panting heavily from pain and exertion of energy, Asterspark looked up to Thornbriar and offered her a small smile. "We sure taught that brute not t' mess wi' us, huh? Heh... let's hope we don't run into anymore purr-edators out here, though, I'm not feline up t' havin' anymore claw-some battles."

Asterspark flinched at the soft bat with a snicker and a wide grin. Stars, it was a lot of fun teasing her. It really did help him forget about all his current woes. And it wasn't doing much harm at all to Thornbriar, either. Sure, she was getting irritated at him pretty quickly, but that was about it. Giving his pelt a shake and the tip of his tail an awkward swish to try and quell the worst of the bite mark from the fox, he resumed his hunting.

Despite the loud quarrel against the fox, it didn't seem to take Asterspark long at all to find another frog. He pounced towards it, wincing a bit as the new spike of pain in his tail from the abrupt movement, yet he still managed to land on its back and bite the back of its neck to kill it. He looked up at Thornbriar and shot her a cheeky grin. "Guess who just caught the first piece of fresh-kill of the patrol? Guess you'll hafta hop to it t' keep up, Thorny."
