Hunting Rabbits

Frog was enjoying being a warrior. She hadn't been a warrior long, but the moment she had been given her name she took advantage of every freedom allowed to her now. She liked being able to just wake up and go hunting without waiting for her mentor's permission or another warrior's company. The sun was high as Frog made her way towards WindClan territory. She hadn't had much luck last time she'd tried hunting there - and even less luck once a WindClan cat had caught her on their territory - but perhaps if she didn't cross the border she'd do fine in her own territory. The gray ShadowClan warrior was sniffing around when she caught a whiff of fresh WindClan scent nearby. The she-cat sought out the source, spotting an apprentice on their side of the border just a few fox-lengths away.

As soon as Rabbitpaw spotted Frogmarsh on the other side of the invisible border, too dangerously close to crossing over it for his taste, he took a few paces forward, fixing her with unblinking icy-cold eyes. "You shouldn't be so close to the border, ShadowClanner, unless you are rescenting the markers. Be careful where you place your paws, that is all I will say."

Frog and the apprentice seemed to find each other at the same time. Her green eyes locked with the WindClan cat's blue ones, and immediately the other cat began to take steps towards the border - towards her - calling out words of warning. Frog hesitated for a moment; she had actually been planning to stay on her side of the border, but the tom's words sounded too much like a challenge for her to ignore. She stood a little taller and paced a little closer to the border, loitering dangerously near scent marks. "I think you sound a little insecure over there, rabbit-lover," Frog teased. "And a little presumptuous, don't you think? I'm sure I know the borders just as well as you."

"I can assure you I am not," Rabbitpaw replied coolly, seeming unfazed by her clear attempts to rile him up. "I only wanted to make you aware of how closer you are standing. I have heard too many stories of cats being needlessly slaughtered over trespassing. I would not wish that upon you, should you grow cocky enough to try and cross into WindClan territory." He turned around without another word and began his search for prey in his territory, yet he always kept his ears swiveled back to keep an ear out on her to make sure she didn't try to cross the border.

Frog watched the tom as he spoke, and from his bored and knowing expression she realized he knew she wanted to get a rise out of him. Just like Thornpaw, she thought, taking a deep breath and letting it out in a huff as the WindClan cat drawled on. Why do they all think they're so above me? Then the apprentice implied that she might be cocky, and immediately afterwards he turned and walked away, though Frog could tell he was still listening for her. Cocky of him to assume he has any amount of authority over me, or that he could possibly beat me for trespassing she thought, rolling her eyes as she took one single pawstep over the border and stood there nonchalantly.

Rabbitpaw froze in place, seeming to have known what Frogmarsh had done. Taking in a deep breath, he exhaled softly, letting his intolerance to this arrogant ShadowClanner build and manifest into rage. This cat had broken the warrior code despite the warnings he had given her. He was now justified to attack. "You have been warned."

Whipping around rapidly, he launched himself at Frogmarsh and grabbed her scruff tightly before using his momentum to yank her completely over the border. If he was going to fight her, he was not going to let a single hair cross the border over to ShadowClan territory. After all, he was no code-breaker. He then pushed her into the ground and dug his claws into her shoulder and head, his hind claws raking her back.

Rabbitpaw used Leap-and-Hold on Frogmarsh, dealing 6 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Frog stared hard at the back of the WindClan apprentice's head as she stood defiantly over the border. As if he knew what she'd done he froze, and Frog felt satisfaction flicker in her stomach. He growled, and when he whipped around to face her - and attack her - she was still somehow caught off guard. She had been expecting retaliation, since she had blatantly disobeyed not only the warrior code but also a warning from the WindClan tom himself, but she certainly hadn't expected it to come so... quickly. Despite her swift defeat the last time she'd faced a WindClan opponent, Frog had forgotten how fast they could move.

Frog tumbled over easily when the apprentice yanked her, for she was unprepared to be pulled further into the enemy territory. She let out a cry of alarm as the WindClan cat pinned her in his territory, and she snarled in protest, "Ow! Hey, I wouldn't even have come all the way over if you hadn't literally pulled me!"

Frog is unable to move this turn.

"You wouldn't have been in this situation if you had just respected the code," Rabbitpaw growled lowly, still managing to keep some air of calm through the fight. "This is all on you." He continued scoring his hind claws down her back, his white pristine claws starting to glint light red as he began drawing up little droplets of blood.

Frog hissed with irritation as she felt the tom tightening his grip on her shoulders, digging deeper into her back. What had been an uncomfortable sting was quickly becoming agonizingly painful. She'd have to see a medicine cat if she took much more... What a self-righteous jerk, Frog thought. She mustered up all her strength and reared up to throw him off, then whirled at him to slash ferociously with her forepaws. Her dark claws hooked fiercely, tearing at the other cat's pelt. She couldn't think of a retort, because he was right, after all.

Rabbitpaw yowled as he was knocked back by the harsh blow to his side, tumbling towards the border. Thankfully, he was able to claw his way back up to his paws just before he crossed the scent barrier. Not even accidentally would he cross the border.

With a ferocious yowl, he launched himself at his opponent again, slamming hard into her side and managing to score his claws across her muzzle before she collapsed to the ground.

Rabbitpaw used Whirlwind Rush, followed by Swift Strike, dealing 9 damage and costing 25 stamina.

Frog snarled with fury as the apprentice recovered, though she realized with wicked interest that the tom seemed desperate not to cross the border by the way he scrambled to get his footing and retreat from it. He thinks he's so great just because of some dumb lines and dumb rules, she thought, tail lashing. No sooner had she finished her thought than did the WindClan cat come flying at her again. She was certain nobody could move fast enough to avoid an angry WindClanner as the tom slammed into her faster than she could react. The wind was knocked out of her, and as she was falling to the ground the apprentice lashed out lightning fast and cut her muzzle.

Frog cried out with pain, but more than that she was angry. Now she definitely wouldn't be able to hide this fight from anyone. She could lie and say that the WindClan cat started it, but the scents didn't lie: her scent was completely on the WindClan side a decent distance from the border because the tom had pulled her over. And since he had never even set a paw on the ShadowClan side, there was no way to pin it on him. Fox-dung, she thought angrily, Who needs all these dumb rules anyways?

Fed up with the fight and determined not to get any more scratches, Frog grappled with the tom who had pushed her over and kicked out fiercely with her hind paws, digging into his belly before flinging him away. She really tried to throw him onto the ShadowClan side just to rub it in his face, but mostly she wanted to get out. She raced back into her Clan's territory, feeling the wounds on her face beginning to sting. What a crowfood-eater, Frog thought angrily as she disappeared into the foliage.

The pain was too much for the young apprentice to handle. A squeal was finally ripped out of him, despite his best efforts to contain such a reaction to the overwhelming pain in his belly. Finally managing to shove Frogmarsh off of him, Rabbitpaw stumbled to his paws, nearly falling back over, hissing and spitting in rage and agony.

Beginning to limp away, he turned back to Frogmarsh and glared murderously at her before hissing, "I will make sure WindClan runs ShadowClan's name through the mud! You rogues of a Clan are finished!" He turned and resumed limping back over the moors towards WindClan territory.
