Exploration time!

The bright sunlight poking through the sedge and willow branch wall of the Nursery woke Flamekit up earlier than the rest of her family. She was on the edge of the pile of cats her family had made, as usual. Therefore, the only other kitten she would disturb while getting up was her older brother, and he just moved to his other side in his sleep and resumed snoring loudly.

Stretching, she trotted out of the den, blinking in response to the sunlight and sitting down. The warmth from the sky washed over her and sunk deep into her medium-length fur. She adored the sun: it was the only thing that could distract her from mischief. However, this peaceful moment was interrupted when she saw something move out of the corner of her eye - a spider. Quickly crouching down into a hunting position, she began to stalk the little creature, eyes widening and mouth opening slightly to allow her tongue to taste the air.

Heronflight woke up earlier than most would. He was going to hunt by himself when he saw a she-kit trying to sneak up on a spider. She looked young, maybe just weaned. However, the tortoiseshell she-cat went into a hunter’s crouch (or attempted, because she was still too inexperienced to do it correctly). By then, the gray tabby tom wanted her to attempt to catch a spider. If she caught it, it would be something that even the senior warrior had not accomplished. After she pounces at it, I will talk to her, the gray tabby thought as he stayed out of the way of Flamekit.

The she-kit's attempt was in vain. She was still far too young to understand the mechanics of hunting, so instead of silently stalking her prey she let her paws noisily hit the ground as she crawled, so the little invertebrate quickly heard her and scurried away. Huffing, she lifted her body back up into a sitting position, and began to quietly pout. Her eyes darted around to find another spider, but alas, there were none. The grey tabby didn't catch her attention at all for the moment.
