Hunting(CLOSED)

Heronflight was grouped for a patrol with his son, Larkpaw, and Swanpetal. The goal of the patrol? To catch prey for the clan. The gray tabby tom patiently waited for the cats to group.

Larkpaw really wanted to go catch some prey for RiverClan, almost as much as his dad. The apprentice waited for Swanpetal to appear for the patrol.

OOC: Not much muse and very late for me, but I am trying to keep going

Swanpetal came over to them a few moments later, moving only slightly slower than usual. The aftereffects of the illness that had kept her out of commission for some time had yet to fade completely, but she was ready to return to her duties as a warrior, and one of those duties was to provide for her Clan. "Heronflight," she greeted. "Larkpaw."

Heronflight nodded politely.  "Let's go, then," the gray tabby tom said.

(time skip)

Soon, Heronflight found a creek.  He saw a green, lumpy toad on the other side of the creek, its strange croaking distracting him.  He got into his hunter's crouch and started to sneak up on it inch by inch.  He got closer and closer until the gray tabby tom pounced at the toad. Success. Bringing his kill to the other members of the patrol, he dug a hole and placed the long-legged creature in it.

Larkpaw was starting to work on his fish-catching because he has been ill for a moon or two; he didn't even know how long he was ill anymore.  The brown tom batted the fish and pulled it into the riverbank. The brown tom dug a hole and put the fish in it, knowing that he would get something else as well.

Swanpetal settled by the side of the creek and stretched out a paw. She preferred fishing to land-prey hunting at the best of times, and while she was nearly recovered she didn't exactly want to embarrass herself by trying and failing to catch, say, a passing bird. She watched the water with a patience she possessed for little else, content to wait for the prey to come to her. She had always loved that aspect of fishing: staying in one place and watching for ripples on the water. It was a pleasant pastime whether there were fish or not, and it gave her something constructive to focus on, keeping her from slipping into other thoughts that might weigh her down.

There! A ripple caught her eye, followed by a flash of silver scales.

With swift grace, she swiped the fish out of the water and delivered a bite to its scales to make it stop squirming. Then she followed Larkpaw and Heronflight, digging a hole to hide her catch until they were finished hunting.

Heronflight started to look into the creek for fish.  He liked hunting for fish, because it kept his mind off other things, especially during his apprentice days.  He also thought about the greater picture; it was to help the clan survive when leafbare is right around the corner.  Every time he caught a fish, he had to have focus and patience.  These attributes helped him become a great hunter overall, which always helps during hard times.  A ripple suddenly appeared, followed by a sliver of scales.  Suddenly, an eagle caught the fish, swooping back into its nest. Oh, no. StarClan, no. There is an eagle, and it’s hungry. “Swanpetal! There is an eagle here! Protect Larkpaw!” Heronflight called, slicing the eagle with his paws.

Heronflight used Upright Front Paws on Eagle, dealing 15 damage and costing 20 stamina.

Larkpaw was still hunting for another fish, peering into the translucent water to look for a scaly catch.  A ripple appeared with a trout, but Larkpaw’s inexperienced paw missed the fish as it swam by.  Darn it! he thought.  The brown tom went to another area, as he scared the fish from that particular area. He didn’t even notice there was an eagle there, even after Heronflight’s yowl.

OOC: I think that double-teaming rules apply to predators against multiple cats, so no stun moves. Correct me if I’m wrong, please.

Not for the first time in her life, Swanpetal cursed her luck. But she couldn't spare more than moment to do so, with an apprentice to protect from a very real threat. "I see it!" she called back, and turned her attention to the bird in question. It thought it could best a team of RiverClan cats? Not if she had anything to say about it. She reared up onto her hind legs as the adrenaline kicked in, leaving any hesitations she may have had behind, and slashed at the bird with all the strength she possessed. She had to protect her Clanmates, after all: wasn't that what she had sworn to do, so many moons ago? Protect her Clan and, by extension, her Clanmates, no matter the cost. "Be careful!"

Swanpetal used Rear-Up To Slash on the Eagle, dealing 9 damage and costing 15 stamina.

Eagle:

Heronflight kept on slashing, as the gray tabby tom was trying to make sure that the eagle wouldn't harm Larkpaw at all.

The eagle knew that he had to get out of this. For his chicks. For his mate. For everything he knows and cares about. With a new determined spirit, the eagle flew from the two cats - and straight towards a brown cat. Take that, stupid cats. The eagle screeched victoriously as he had the brown cat in his claws - or so he thought. He actually picked up a log, and he only noticed it when he was flying away. When the eagle returned to the scene, the cats were waiting for them.

Larkpaw suddenly realized that there was an eagle trying to attack him. When the eagle struck, he ducked behind a fallen log. The eagle picked up the log and decided to fly away. When it came back, Larkpaw knew they were ready.

Swanpetal raised her paws, and brought them down on the eagle with unsheathed claws. She wasn't willing to let her guard down for any reason until it was dead, and so she barely paid attention to the log it carried off once she had double-checked that it was just a log and not Larkpaw.

Swanpetal used Front Paw Strike on the Eagle, dealing 8 damage and costing 10 SP.

Heronflight watched the eagle try to fly away, but instead it flopped towards Heronflight. The experienced warrior bit into the feathered creature's neck. As it fell limp, the gray tabby tom said, "Is everyone okay?" He started to dig the toad into his paws. "I think that we should go back to camp. He bit the toad as well as the wing of the eagle and carried it.

Larkpaw noticed that suddenly, the eagle was dead. The brown tom tried to carry the other wing, but not really succeeding.
