He was nervous. Almost as nervous as the first time he had to train an apprentice. How could he not be when he had to train a young tom who didn't even know they were related in ways he couldn't imagine? Jaystar took a short glimpse of Galepaw, who was walking right by his side. He didn't look like Goldeneye or he yet he shared his green eyes and some facial traits. Unlike Berrypaw, it was hard to make a connection between him and his real parents. The leader's whiskers flicked when he let out a silent sigh while he was turning his eyes away once more. The tom wanted to tell him everything because he himself knew how painful it was to be lying by your parents... Maybe one day, when he grew older, he would confess everything before someone else could do it for him.
Jaystar stopped the walking the moment they arrived at the river. A few orange leaves were floating on the surface of the clear water, announcing how close leafbare was. During this time, Riverclan had to gather more food than ever in order to survive the harsh snow and the lack of food in the territory. Fish was always an option for them but land prey was also a valuable resource for such a large clan like his. And that was why it was so important that young, new apprentices learn how to hunt and fish. "Welcome to the river, Galepaw. Even though it does not belong to Riverclan but it is a border between our clan and Skyclan, we have the privilege to use it for swimming and hunting, unlike other clan cats." He mewed, starting the lesson. First of all, he needed to know how clan borders worked. "As a future warrior, it is your responsibility to defend the border and challenge every cat who dares to cross the river, no matter if they are Thunderclan, Skyclan or an outsider. Prey in this land only belong to our clan and we have to protect it at all cost, especially now."
Jaystar tool a step forward to the river and flicked his tail to invite Galepaw to join him. The leader walked a bit deeper into the muddy lands of the underwater grounds. The water was colder because of the fresh climate but for an experienced swimmer like him, it was no problem. "What do you think about the river, Galepaw? Do you think want to give swimming a try?" He purred, smiling a bit. Maybe he had inherited his like for the water.
