Lightkit's Apprentice Ceremony

In the blink of an eye, six moons had already passed since Sunfish's departure to StarClan. Her kits that she had given birth to right before her death were now old enough to become apprentices. Lightkit and Aspenkit--their time in the nursery was up. First would come Lightkit's ceremony.

Bunching his muscles, Scorchclaw leaped with ease unto the Willow Branch. His claws scuffed the worn bark, riddled with the claw marks of leaders and deputies before him. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the willow branch for a clan meeting!" His cry echoed powerfully throughout the camp.

Just like most kits were at their apprentice ceremony, Lightkit was visibly full of excitement. It did not take long before all of the cats that were supposed to gather had gathered. There were many among the crowd who also knew the purpose of this meeting and did not wish to delay it. With a swish of his fluffy tail, Scorchclaw started the ceremony. "Lightkit, step froward." The fluffy deputy wore a calm expression as he beckoned the young tom forward. He inhaled once, already knowing the next words he was going to say. RiverClan was currently flourishing. There were so many apprentices, and almost every warrior had an apprentice. He had spent quite a bit of thought on who Lightkit's mentor was going to be. "You have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this today onward until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Lightpaw. Your mentor will be Jaystar."

Although his part in Lightpaw's ceremony was over, Scorchclaw did not leave the branch like he usually did. Instead, he sat back to watch as the new apprentice touched noses with his mentor.

The leader, who had been watching the ceremony closely, couldn't help smiling a little when his deputy called his name. Days ago, he asked him to give him one of Sunfish's kits. As their grandfather... he wanted to protect them now that they didn't have a mother... just like his own kits in the past.

As he walked to him, he looked to his deputy briefly and nodded at him, grateful. Then he continued walking to the young Lightpaw. With a gentle smile, he touched noses with him. "I'll teach you everything I know... I promise." He purred softly to his grand-kit.
