Some minor changes have been made to the battle system- this announcement serves as an in-depth explanation to the tweaks. make sure to read and check out the updated battle system ;)

IN REGARDS TO THE BATTLE MOVE 'PLAY DEAD' ::

The ability of this move has officially been changed and will now function as a 'Special Effect' move. Essentially, you can use this move to escape the stunning move Scruff Shake. The move was tweaked in hopes of giving lower ranking cats a chance to hold out longer during large scale battles whenever they get steam rolled by high ranking opponents spamming stuns in a glorious rage.


  • Only Apprentices can use Play Dead- once you rank up to a Newly-Appointed Warrior and up, the move is no longer available for usage.
  • Apprentices can use this updated move to escape the stun 'Scruff Shake', but you can only use it against higher ranking opponents. Specifically Warrior and up, as this is when the move first becomes available for usage.
  • This move can only be used once during a battle during a higher ranking opponent, but becomes available for usage once you move onto a second higher ranking opponent.
  • To use Play Dead, you will roll the 'Effects Dice'.
    1, 2, 3 = A successful escape
    4, 5, 6 = A failed escape


If you manage to escape Scruff Shake via the dice, then your character is free and the stun is immediately finished, regardless of how many turns are left. Your opponent can no longer use Scruff Shake against you during the duration of the battle.
If you fail to escape Scruff Shake, the move will proceed as normal.

The move Play Dead deals -5 in HP to your opponent & costs -15 in SP regardless of whether or not you manage to escape.



just to show how this would work in a battle, here's an example:

Elmcloud used Scruff Shake, Dealing -8 in Damage & Costing -25 in Stamina.
Lichenpaw is stunned for TWO turns.

80/80 [SP]

[insert Seer rolling a 3, meaning Lichenpaw is stunned for two turns.]

Lichenpaw used Play Dead, Dealing -5 in Damage & Costing -15 in Stamina.
Lichenpaw FAILS to escape Scruff Shake!

Since MCs/MCAs use the same moves, would they also get to use Play Dead?

MCAs can definitely use it under the same pretense as regular Apprentices, but Staff will decide whether or not full MCs can use the move and we'll make an official ruling ;)
